Frisco is a town right off I70 that is close to Breck, Copper and Keystone that will typically have cheaper lodging than staying at those ski areas. Winter Park to me is the best value for your money for anyone learning to ski though and you can find good deals on lodging to vs other areas.

Mt Rose in Tahoe. Great snow and not crowded. Give it a try.

You can stay in Reno or Incline Village. Easy transit.

Ah well Frisco is a base town close to Breck and Keystone. If you are on a budget and want to ski multiple resorts it is a great option with very affordable holtels. We are actually staying in Frisco in February.

Cool, thanks

Which would you recommend for a family trip with kids, Winter Park and Frisco?

Never been to Winter Park but I hear it's great for families. We don't rent a vehicle and we don't stay in ski-in/ski-out lodging at the resort so we stay in Frisco. As I said it has more affordable hotels and plenty of dining options to suit the budget friendly family. Since we don't rent a vehicle we also rely on the free bus service (summit stage) to transport us to whichever resort we want to ski. 3 of the 4 mountains around Frisco are great for families......Copper, Breck, and Keystone. We learned to ski at Copper and it's very family friendly and has a great ski school for kids and grown ups to learn.
Your budget may be bigger than mine and you may want to stay in ski-in/ski-out and not have to deal with getting back and forth to the resort. If that's the case then Winter Park and Breckenridge would have the most in terms of fitting your needs. Copper and Keystone don't have much in the way of dining options but you could always take the bus to Frisco to eat if you chose to stay there.
