Rental Car Suitcase Storage Ideas

The family and I are leaving for a trip to Yellowstone next week and will fly into SLC then drive up. We are renting a suburban and it will be full with seven people so we won't have room to store all of our suitcases. Anyone know if you can rent a upper rack at National or any other ideas on how to transport the suitcases when the car is full?

You might want to call.

National doesn't so neither does Alamo/Enterprise. I have not seen a rental agency that does so I wouldn't know. You might have to go to Harbor Freight and buy a $50 luggage tow hitch (which would probably be cheaper than renting one if that were an option) then maybe find some way to leave it there? Policy back then was you couldn't tow anything with the cars unless you rented through the Truck division (their contracts allow for "towing") but we never cared if you put a luggage tow hitch on as long as you took it off.
Suburbans have a ton of room in the trunk unless you are bringing way more than just clothing in your checked bags/staying for a long period of time. Other option would be to rent two cars or strap everything to the roof without scratching it. Good luck.

We have about seven mid size suitcases, I'm going to try to fit them in the back of a suburban this weekend for a test run. Thanks for the help!

Bring a soft sided roof top carrier and strap it to the roof rails. You can probably roll it up as a carryon.

Seven suitcases will easily fit in a suburban.
You have a ton of room behind the 3rd row
