As a kid we drove up there and stayed in a hotel near the park. Went to McDonald's.
Later that night watching local news some dude shot up the place not long after we left.

How about the Atlanta Airport? And then fly him to Cancun or somewhere proper for an 18 year old lol?
Lived in ATL now for about 17 years total in two stints.
If your kid was little, you could make a weekend with a lot of things, but at 18... not sure how much he'd care about aquarium, etc.
Underrated things people don't mention, fwiw
-Tellus Museum in Cartersville is one of the best in the country
-While in Cartersville, checkout the Savoy Auto Museum...still pretty new and is cool.
-Computer Museum of America in Roswell has the most impressive display of computers thru the ages in the country, as well as a huge section dedicated to the Apollo program.

Or drop him off with a ticket and backpack and let him live a little!

He is doing his senior trip in Atlanta? Why?
To make my life difficult probably.

What's he into? Does he like specific types of food? Have you asked him what intrigues him about Atlanta?
That can help with some suggestions from us locals.

Now its been a long long time but Dahlonega and mining for gold could be cool for the kids. If they still do it.
Nvm, take that dude to a braves game or an atl united game and let him drink beer. go to the aquarium and the zoo.

Braves/Falcons/United game would be good.
Without duplicating answers:
If you like outdoor activities, hike to top of Stone Mountain. Great views from up there and it’s decent exercise.
If you like history the Atlanta History museum is pretty good.
Vortex for a burger.
Side trip to Athens.
When is this trip?

I didn’t realize the OP had a Time Machine and could travel back to 1986 when people thought either was cool or fun.

If you think going to St Mt isn’t fun, I can picture you as a blob in a recliner.

This kid is 18. Stone Mountain is not a day for an 18 year old, and there are better hikes if that is the goal.

Where? Kennesaw Mountain arguably but I’m not impressed with it.

I suppose. Further north you get that would be so.

I went to six flags a few weeks ago and had a blast. It’s a great park. Better than any Orlando park

I've use to live in Stone Mountain, I absolutely loved hiking to the top of Stone Mountain and then the laser show. Not sure if they still do it but if so. It was my favorite Atlanta thing to do.

They still do the laser show. They actually just redid the entire show
If you visit Atlanta News First Webcams page they have a webcam that shows it all the time.

You’re probably right about Six flags. They would have a blast there! But take cooler with you and eat outside and make sandwiches and then go back In after Lunch. Not a good part of town Unles you enjoy crackheads. But the park is safe.
Six Flags is about as safe an area as there is in Atlanta. Fulton Industrial area looks intimidating to country fricks but it is pretty safe and west of that is pretty much just suburbs. The people are black, however, so if that is skeery the area will certainly be skeery. That is going to be the case in most of Atlanta, however,
