Update. ZoZo’s is open. It’s a must eat at place.
Warning. If you eat on a beach the birds are very aggressive.

We looked at them but decided to make reservations at Morgan’s Mango one night and then Extra Virgin Bistro for our anniversary dinner. Days like today make me want to get down there as quick as I can. It’s too cold at my house!

ZoZo’s is better. If you can it’s a great dining experience. As much as I like Morgan’s Mango it isn’t in the same league.
You’re almost there. Just a couple of weeks right? I’m in South Florida enjoying warm weather while Virginia freezes this week.

Yes, just a couple of weeks out. I appreciate all of the recommendations and tips. We may end up at ZoZo’s but, for now those are the two places we’ve got reservations. My wife is picky so if she is good with these two, I’m not saying a word. We’re going to Morgan’s Mango the first full day that we’re down there. I figured that would be a good way to start off our trip. Supposed to have a balcony table for a sunset dinner.

We're booked for a May trip. Would you say Skinny Legs is worth the trip across the Island? My husband is a big KC fan and wanted to go over there last time, but we didn't have the time to get there.

Skinny Legs is fun. It's great if you catch a bad weather day and don't want to just sit around. We always go because we like to support the business.

You can do a boat day and tool around St. John and hit Lime Out. My suggestion would be Rockhoppin Adventures. Ask for Captain Steve and tell that short fricker that King Bill says hello.

I agree with VABuckeye that ZoZos is better than Morgan's Mango. But, like he said, MM isn't bad - not at all. And a happy wife helps with a happy life, so enjoy.
Skinny Legs is well worth the drive to Coral Bay. And VABuckeye nailed it... if you have a full day of bad weather, which is sorta rare, or you're spending the day at some of the beaches on the north side of the island (Maho or Francis), SL is a great place to settle in for a while and enjoy the food, drinks, vibe and maybe catch a game on television.
And, if you're going to be on the east side of the island more than once, try Miss Lucy's, which is literally right on the water in Friis Bay, for lunch. It's not fancy, but the food is authentic and tasty.
If you're boating around that side of SJ, Lime Out is a great place to stop for food and fun.
There are several quality charter boat companies. We've used Love City Excursions in 2016-2019 (no trip for us in 2020) and they are quite good. Love City Excursions
Best wishes for your trip!

It’s funny you mentioned Skinny Legs and Miss Lucy’s. We’ve been keeping a list as we think of things and I called the guy that we’re renting from to go over what we may need to bring, buy, etc. We’re not going to have to buy much at all. One of the things we had on the list were casual food restaurants. He told me a few places in Cruz Bay but when we talked about the Coral Bay Area, he mentioned Miss Lucy’s first. I asked about Skinny Legs and he said they’re a good bar/lunch spot and that he takes his daughter there. He said it’s on a swamp so since we’re from Louisiana, that might be appealing to us. He said if he had to pick one it would be Miss Lucy’s. We’re going to try to do both but, something tells me we won’t be on that side of the island a whole lot.

Both are great places, but Skinny Legs doesn't really have much of a water view. You can see the water from the parking lot - not so much the restaurant. But the water you're seeing is just a small inlet. SL is next door to what amounts to a half-arse boat ramp that doubles as a dock for dinghys coming off of sailing boats moored in Coral Harbor.
Miss Lucy's is literally on the shore of Friis Bay - outside dining areas are right next to the water. Heck of a view - you can see Norman Island in the BVIs in the distance.
Either are worth your time, though.

Both look like pretty cool places but, I can understand why the guy we’re renting from said Miss Lucy’s first. I’d like to go on Thursday evening when they have open mic night. Looks like that would be a lot of fun. For the more casual laid back restaurants/bars, is it better to have cash than credit cards? I’m not talking just Miss Lucy’s, I’m talking the entire island as a whole.

It (needing to have cash because CCs aren't accepted) was sometimes an issue back when I first started going to SJ in the late 80s. I can't think of a time in the past several years where it was a problem, though.
Virtually all the restaurants, bars and shops take credit cards - it is the United States after all - and so many of the merchants now process credit cards through Apps on their phones, which makes it easy for them. And SJ tourists usually have plenty of money versus tourists in some other vacation spots in the Caribbean, so credit/debit cards are expected to be received well.
That said, you might run into a spot that doesn't take AmEx, so you should make sure to bring a MasterCard or Visa.
I'll leave you alone after (I love going to St. John and the BVIs) this one last thought. Maho Beach is both beautiful and a great place to see Sea Turtles up close. I can't remember ever snorkeling there and NOT seeing turtles. Anyway, after the two hurricanes in 2017, a great little spot opened up at Maho Beach - Maho Crossroads. It's a little tropical village with a couple small outside bars, food and beverage huts and a shop or two. All very rustic and eco-friendly. Anyway, it makes for a cool day at Maho - sunning on the beach (or laying in shade under a tree) and snorkeling with the turtles - and any time you want you can just walk over to Maho Crossroads for a beverage and a bite and listen to some music.

I appreciate the recommendations. This is great advice. We’re planning on going to Maho Beach for snorkeling and it’s great to know about Maho Crossroads. That may work out perfectly.

Credit cards are accepted at every place I know.
If you want to snorkel Trunk Bay has a fantastic snorkeling area and it’s known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Since we’re staying in the Peter Bay Area, we’re planning on spending a day or at least a good portion of a day at Trunk Bay. All the pictures and videos I’ve seen are absolute paradise and I understand why it’s one of the most photographed beaches in the world!
