Won a pair of entry tickets to The Wave in December. I've been doing some research and what I'm seeing is that it's way easier to win tickets during the winter..I'm just assuming because of snow.

My questions is has anyone ever gone during the winter months? Is it a similar experience? We are trying to decide if it's worth going or not. It's been on our list for a few years now and this is the first time we've won the raffle.

TIA

ETA: We are going to continue to put our names in the raffles to try and get spring/summer/fall tickets..but we need to start booking rooms/cars/etc. if going in the winter month is still advantageous.

Congrats! We missed for December. Party of 4 and Party of 5 probably hurt the odds? It will definitely be worth it please do not pass on the opportunity imo.

We have been putting in for a party of 4 for a full year now, we have another couple we like to go to the parks with. Well, we put in just for two just to see and won first time...Felt bad leaving our travel partners BUT I agree I don't think we will pass up the opportunity.

Just people posting that the winter time is not ideal made me weary. We will definitely continue to put in an hope to get a different time of year.

Also, any recommendations on what air port to fly in would be helpful.

Not in Utah. It's in northern AZ, just south of Kanab, UT. I think that the closest place with a parks service office that can find same day passes.

I’ve been twice. January of 2018 and February of this year. frick yes it’s worth going. I’ve been an asston of places and the wave will stun you. Inclement weather happens, but it’s the desert and it’s not that common. These pictures are from February.

The trailhead starts in Utah but you unknowingly cross the border to Arizona right before you get to the wave. The wave and back is roughly 6 miles round trip, but there’s a lot of stuff in coyote buttes north to check out.

Awesome photos! ..I guess the internet hiking forum nerds just had me worried

I'm pretty excited about going. There are a few other hikes we are going to try to do in the surrounding areas.

Thanks for your input. Where did you guys fly into?
