That looks awesome, but i don't want to have to operate a boat, and adding a captain starts to get really pricey. Trying to keep it around $6k including flights

GF (no pics) and I are looking at taking our 2 kids here this summer. All-inclusive and kids stay free. It's on the beach but also has it's own water park. Best of both worlds when it comes to kids, IMO.

Royalton Splash Punta Cana

This place was great! My 9 year old and family went last summer. Lots of stuff to keep kids having a blast. Cons- beach and ocean are pretty shitty. Muddy water and usually full of sargassum grass on the beach. They do have excursions to take you snorkeling, but if you are used to cozumel/roatan/turks you will be disappointed.

We went to Roatan the year before. No waterslides and lazy rivers but the snorkeling off of west bay more than makes up for it. just depends on what you like.

Have fun! We are looking for a place for the week after easter. Cozumel may be the ticket. There are a couple beach clubs with lots of inflatable slides and toys that my kid loves, plus I love the diving.

Understood.

Roatan is great. You'll want to stay almost exclusively on the west side of the island and avoid the hellhole that is Coxen Hole like the plague.

Good luck, OP. At that price point you are probably looking at an AI somewhere relatively close. We’ve looked and hesitated because I can’t stand the thought of flying somewhere only to be at a sargassum beach. That’s probably why we’ve gone back to St. John each time we decide to do a Beach trip.

I am thinking we are doing Exuma next summer to try and mix it up. We are going to do the BVI catamaran for our kids graduation trip in 2 years.

You can get what you want for 6k with some trade offs, will likely be an AI in Jamaica, DR, Mexico or Costa Rica. Might even want to check with a travel agent and/or look at Costco travel to see what options are available.

If you book on your own I would look at the time and see which 4 of those destinations have the cheapest flights, then find housing/resort next.

I'm a little biased but I think the pacific coast of CR offers the best mix of activity for families and beaches. Other areas are much better if you want your trip to focus on being on/out in the water, but it will be hard/impossible to do some of those places (St. John, BVI, etc) for your budget.

For what you are looking for I think Atlantis is set up best for your family. The water park and pools can keep them entertained all day. My first choice however is Turks and Caicos. I also wouldn’t automatically go to Beaches in Turks. My wife and I like Somerset. The villas are huge and each has a full large kitchen. If you catch it right you can get a one bedroom for about $600/night. The two bedroom will probably run $7-800. There are other very nice resorts in Turks though too.

I agree with Costa Rica. Flights are fairly cheap, and if you stay somewhere like Manuel Antonio, it is very walkable. Rooms or AirBnb's there won't break the bank, and you can get really good food at sodas.

I think we are starting to lean heavily on the USVI, specifically St. John. Any recommendations for this area?

I haven’t been there but have read great things about St. John’s here.

I like to be in the middle of what there is on the island so I stay in Cruz Bay. Some like to rent a house and stay on the other side if the island but you are then reliant on driving everywhere.

Take passports and you can ferry over to Tortola or Jost van Dyke for a day trip. You can also charter a boat to tool around the BVI for a day.

St. John has great beaches (Trunk is my favorite) and a solid restaurant scene.

Jamaica all inclusive family friendly is the way to go. Fly into MoBay and stay around the north shore area....it will be very affordable and will offer everything anyplace in the Carribean offers at a much better price. Jamaica outside of resorts is intimidating to some folks and many will tell you not to go under any circumstance. It is not substantially different than the rest of the Caribbean in this regard (the Bahamas are probably slightly less "dangerous"). Go with an open mind, and stay in and with the resort (on tours away from the resort) and y'all will have a blast and do so for a lot less money.

For $6K four of you could get from Atlanta to Jamaica and stay in a private staffed villa with a pool, a minivan and driver for at least a week. Stay out of Kingston though LOL....

Was thinking the same. Jamaica is at the very bottom of the list of Caribbean islands I have interest in going to for a vacation. Well, Haiti is lower but you get my drift.

Where in St. John do y’all stay?

We went to S. Thomas recently and loved it but our trip to St. John was the highlight. So next time we’re definitely staying there.

We’ve stayed in Coral, Peter Bay, and Cruz. We avoid the south shore because of the drive to beaches. But it’s different strokes for different folks. Coral is way more laid back and quiet. Cruz is right there in town, close to bars and restaurants, shopping. Peter or Annaburg is along the north shore and famous beaches. Loved the 5 min car ride back to the house. They all have their advantages depending on what you want out of your trip.

Any recommendations for family friendly (7yo, 14yo, 15yo) all inclusive in Cancun! Looking for something that's not outrageous expensive and has good activities for young teenagers and a 7 year old. I've been searching and trying to figure it out, but there are so many options that I'm hoping someone can narrow it down and give me some clarity. I definitely don't want to book a dud, so I'd rather up the budget a little than settle for something crappy. So far my top 2 are:

Beach Palace
Melia Casa Maya Cancun

Anyone know if these are decent? Or if there are better options in the same type of price range.
Of course there are better options that double the cost, but looking for a quick getaway from April 19-23 that is budget friendly.
