Voyageurs National Park for New Years

We're heading to Minnesota to visit family for Christmas. Thinking about heading to Voyageurs for a day or two while we're up there. I haven't really been able to locate any great resources.
Most of what I've found just points to the national park website. From what I can tell, all visitors centers will be closed until the 2nd week of January (after we leave).
Does anyone have any tips or recommendations on what to do or where to stay? Ice road, sledding, sightseeing, and maybe a little hiking are what I was thinking.

This will sound odd, but ask Canadians, if you know any (I don’t now if Calgary counts, they seem to all head to Central America in the winter). When I was in Winnipeg, all the Canadians talked about was heading to either MN/WI and doing cold shite, or heading into First Nations territory and doing… cold shite.

Hiking?
It’s on the border of Canada and Minnesota. I haven’t looked at the weather, but it’s likely snowed in and closer to 0* temps than above freezing.
It’s a very isolated and remote park, I’ve looked into renting a houseboat during the summer. I’m guessing they don’t get a lot of visitors due to the cold and snow so there’s not a lot of business to keep people open during the winter.

It's mostly and canoeing/kayaking destination.

It’s not quite in Voyagers National Park, but look into Gunflint Lodge. It’s in the Boundary Waters Area near the border.
Also, Lutsen is another place to base out of if you’re looking for winter activities that may be easier to get to.

Current forecast is 20s and 30s when we'd be there. The visitors center rents out snowshoes and skis for the trails, but they aren't planning on opening until the 10th. I was hoping they'd be open on the 3rd, but oh well.
So far the best resource I've found is their facebook page. They have a sledding hill on one of the small islands and an ice rink however, the ice isn't thick enough yet to access them. I'm hoping that changes over the next 2 weeks. Also just want to view the clear night sky and (if lucky) catch the northern lights.
Main goal is to just get out of the city and experience something different while visiting family.

Assuming you’re in the Twin Cities?
If so, the drive to the North Shore along Lake Superior is pretty easy. Minnesota has some great State Parks, so don’t overlook those as opposed to National Parks.
I’ve never been to Voyagers, so I can’t comment on that unfortunately.

Thanks, I'll look at some of those as options as well. We're not set on Voyageurs, it was just an idea.
Yes, my parents are about 20 min outside Minneapolis. We've checked out several different museums and unique attractions on different visits, but I'd prefer to do something more outdoors.

The North shore of Lake Superior, from Duluth to the Canadian border is a nice drive and as mentioned above there are couple nice State Parks along the route north. We stayed at Bluefin Bay. There are several other places along the coast, but I'm not sure how many are open in the winter. Duluth was an interesting town for a day visit. There was a wolf refuge outside of Ely, that's further inland.

I'm far from an expert and I know the further north the better, but Voyageurs is almost literally on the border of Canada. That's a LONG way from Minneapolis. I think if you just want to get out of town, there's a ton of places to go as already pointed out.
There's a couple of ski resorts in Minnesota, it may be worth checking them out also
