the 12-mile hike to goat, bettie, and baptie lakes in the copper basin is on my list. have you ever done that one?

I have not. I have only been in the Sawtooths twice. I would love to go back, but my life is much different now.

half of stanley is under evacuation orders for the wapiti fire, and the bench lake fire burned a good bit of the forest around redfish lake. and idaho 21, the "back" way to stanley and sun valley is closed for the fire that is at 90,000 acres and zero percent contained. just an FYI to the OP if he passed through central idaho.

Good call on being aware of the fires. Even if the area isn't under evacuation, the op should pay attention to the smoke forecasts during wildfire season. Almost pointless to hike in smoke and very difficult on your lungs.

The Durango, Silverton, million dollar highway, Telluride area is pretty great.

Mesa Verde NP is worth it too.

You can do a big loop and see it all.

OK I am back from three week 4K mile road trip through KS, NB, SD, ND, MT, and WY.

I have a ton of great pics and vids to do a review. Give me the best free pic and vid hosting sites please.
