Having an extended family vacation debate. Isn't this where there was like a 16ft storm surge in November after Ian? Wasn't Ft Myers like ground-zero for that hurricane?

There is a place in Cape Coral we are looking at but I feel like its going to be a shite show 6 months after a major hurricane struck and there are so many other vacation options to choose from.

Anyone from that area care to describe the current state?

Ft. Myers Beach was leveled. All of the beaches in Lee County and most in north Collier County are closed until further notice. Ft. Myers Beach and the barrier islands were ground zero.

I'd be careful of Cape Coral anyway. A fair portion of it isn't great and that's being generous. I'd be looking at Marco Island but Marco is a different budget from Cape Coral.

It's going to be a lot longer than 6 months for Ft. Myers Beach. I guess you weren't paying attention because it looked like a bomb went off after Ian. This storm was way more than just storm surge here.

There are so many places in Florida you could go, why on earth would you go to Ft Myers this summer? The beach might as well have been wiped off the map a few months ago.

thank you!

that's pretty much what i thought (i was all over that ian thread back in the fall) but my family is ignoring me when i bring this up as if i'm crazy to ask about how that area looks after the hurricane.

thanks for confirming that i'm not just being a negative nancy.

If it makes you feel any better, even though Sanibel was completely destroyed there are still people trying to rent whatever is available.

The beaches are pretty much still off limits, most businesses haven’t reopened, but one of the golf courses is open and the Dunes is opening soon. While I do think it’s important for tourism to return to SW Florida your family will have a better time this summer elsewhere.
