I can hear Scott Howard now…”Leave it to Beaver! He walks into the endzone!”

Just a general transfer note. Of all the guys that left a grand total of 3 players actually went to possible playoff teams. Kelly went to Ohio state. Aguero went to ole miss. Jordan Thomas went to South Carolina. And I’m being nice calling 26 ole miss and South Carolina possible playoff teams. My point is a lot of our fanbase panics when we lose guys but that vast majority go to schools that are not in our league both SEC wise and championship caliber wise.
Like Rod Rob. Ohhh we can’t lose him. Well he ended up at UAB. If he was so unlosable why didn’t he end up somewhere better? Ondre Evans went to NC state. Good program but not our level. The rest ended up at Colorado, Kansas, etc. the depth would’ve been nice but it gets tiresome when fans act like every guy who exits is just a year away from being an all American. Possibly. But most of the time that’s not the case.

re: Why are we losing so many secondary players?
Posted by claydawg09 on 1/14/26 at 5:57 pm to Darindawg
Well Daylen went to the draft. Maddox and Harris who we brought in last year both couldn’t earn PT. Ondre Evans and Dom Kelly are both young guys who were firmly behind other relatively young guys (Ellis and Demello). And we brought in a few portal guys this time that have legit experience. The waters were muddy so they decided to go try a different pool.

Allegedly Cortez Hankton hit on his mom during a recruiting visit in high school that Verron wasn’t on. Do with that what you will.

Safety wise definitely. One of them (probably Khalil Barnes) will actually start. Of The 3 we got last year the only one who got real PT was Zion Branch and that’s only when guys got hurt or ejected. And I’m really high on Amaris Williams potential impact at DE and Jack which he apparently will play both.
Offensively I’m a little concerned we are relying on a lot of youth in the receiver room and really honestly just praying for health on the O line. Our lack of o line activity may be something we look back on because it very well could bite us.

I’d feel comfortable with Juan dropping a few more pounds and playing LT and Greene at RT. However I’m highly concerned who comes in for them if they get hurt.

Was a really good player. Season ending injury early in 24. Got passed by healthier players this year. Still may be some production left in the tank with a change of scenery and becoming fully healthy.

You mean the game he played with a torn labrum and literally got shoulder surgery at 8am the next day? But he played anyways because he knew him with one arm was still better than the alternative? That game? Yea I think they’ll either overlook it or view it as a positive character moment.

I feel like they threw Jah out there hoping he’d turn into a shark and quickly realized he wasn’t.

Calhoun is a guard.

He’ll go mid second round at worst. Best decision for him. We may pick up a guy but if Ernest Greene comes back, I think he should stay at RT and have Gaston lose another 25 pounds and play LT.

I think he’d need a waiver because he had carries in 4 seasons at Illinois plus this year with us.

Added Dowdell from Kentucky too. Like a McCray type guy more agile. Was a 1K back at Nebraska a couple years ago.

Don’t get me wrong. For the right price I’d take Haynes in a heartbeat. But from his end idk why he’d go from primary ball carrier thousand yard at a big time program back to role player.

Additionally, just like the Jaden Baugh situation, unless he doesn’t care about money I don’t see the point. We have 2 good backs (I know that got hairy but I think it’s solidified now). He has 1 year left. We ain’t breaking the bank for a 1 year rental let alone when we have a good 1, 2 punch already.

Also. Elo Modozie is now in the portal. Not surprising. He wasn’t what we hoped he could be.

While I agree with your general idea, there’s a breakpoint where good backs want to have a minimum amount of touches. You’re not picking up many talented guys with your pitch being “Hey we think you’re great so we’re gonna give you 5-8 carries per game”. They want to touch the ball. They should. Frazier and Bowens are clearly better than their backups. They shouldn’t be coming out so we can get Peanut a random toss sweep that we advertise clearly “just because”. Nor should they automatically come out to let McCray get all the 3rd or 4th and 1s. That’s a terrible tendency.
re: 2026 Transfer Portal Thread (Bryson Beaver IN)
Posted by claydawg09 on 1/11/26 at 2:18 pm to Kneehigh
Frazier and Bowens are right. Hard stop. Trying to get 4 RBs a balance of touches is a fools errand. You’re either going to piss off the clearly better backs or mess with run game continuity or both. I’m not entirely sure we needed McCray this year based on how we used him and I’m not sure I want us going after Dowdell for the McCray role. Frazier is 210. Bowens 225. They’re different enough and Bowens is big enough I don’t think we need Ron Dayne on this roster.

Radi dancing around it. It allegedly almost happened last year but I don’t get it aside from money. The freshman Bo Jackson they had this year went for almost 1,000 yards. He’d be splitting carries there same as here. Possibly even less than he gets here.

Branch is definitely unique as far as Georgia goes. He was Joystick McKenzie with better top end speed and a little taller and thicker.

Pretty much. I remember Rusty and them saying our offer was basically the same as Mizzou but they told him he could just see ball get ball.

Still may end up just going to the draft. Idk why he doesn’t. Can’t think of too many elite edge guys.

The Vandy slot guy we were after hard committed to Louisville. I’m gonna say I really believe that’s a good thing. Not because he’s not good. But because I fully believe Sacovie White-Helton can be a really good player for us and he may get his chance now. And if we aren’t paying for Richardson then we can allocate that money elsewhere.
re: So Who We Rooting For Now

I noticed that too but honestly their screens look a lot better designed. Herbstreet mentioned it last night but that screen they run with the guard pulling in the opposite direction is deadly. Our screens seem to all look the same and rely more on good receiver blocking than any deception.

Beck played better for sure but the biggest difference was their OLine playing way better than ours.

Ole Miss could win this game but it feels like Miami could have a big 4th quarter. Ole Miss defense has been on the field a ton.

I legitimate don’t understand why Miami calls a pass unless they get a penalty.
