re: Post WW2 What-if Scenario

You are taking heat for this but the Soviets were objectively worse than the Nazis on many fronts.
We obviously should not have sided with the Nazis, but we could have cut off aid to Stalin. It would have hurt the USSR deeply at the end of the war.
Should have let them wipe each other out.

WW2 was a failure from an outcome perspective. The allies were supposedly in it to protect sovereignty of Europeans from totalitarian regimes and simply forced half of Europe into slavery for decades.

It worked well for the US in terms of becoming a wealthy, global superpower but was a complete failure of a war otherwise.
I find it hard to take seriously people who overtly attack others for their beliefs on message boards, knowing exactly what they are doing.

Tends to make me feel more positively about staunch religious people, to be honest

West Florida was British controlled for a time. So Baton Rouge, St Francisville, and the areas that would become Bogalusa, Hammond, Franklinton, Ponchatoula, Covington, Madisonville, Mandeville, Covington, Slidell, etc were briefly a part of the British Empire.
Back in my day, they were called "cubic zirconium" and they were considered trashy AF. Costume jewelry.

They didn't stop slavery, they stopped the trans-Atlantic slave trade

They did much more than that.

They stopped it in most of Africa and used economic and military pressure to end it in the Islamic world.

Look at the colors on this webpage, baw.
Tigers go back to the 1890s and will exist as long as Louisiana has a state government.
Saints have been around since 1967 and, as a private business, will eventually leave New Orleans as that city continues its steep decline.
(Regardless of any horseshite that idiot Gayle or her representatives say about always keeping it in NO. Money talks and lawyers can undo anything that is done).
That said, Saints had a great run and I'll cheer for them and hope for their success.

Tigers, though, are an organic part of Louisiana and its people.

re: Legacy of the British Empire

The British Empire was both a generator of the Enlightenment as much as a purveyor of it. The world is a vastly better place as a result of the Pax Britania.

For one thing, slavery would likely still be widespread globally without it. The British Empire is the number one force for abolition in all of human history. By a huge measure

Commerce bred affluence and freedom. Economic growth, combined with certain universal developments- standardized time, weights/measures, gold standard, etc was a unique revolution in humanity.
Most British colonies released after the World Wars are in a far worse place now than they were under the Empire.

The post WW2 Pax Americana is a direct carryover from British hegemony. Western modernity was nurtured and protected by this phenomenon.

The 19th and 20th centuries were a Golden Age of humanity. Those unaware of this fact may be about to see how true it is. You don't know what ya got til it's gone.
Anyone this bent out of shape by traffic aint living right.
Slow down and enjoy your life, baw. You only get 1.
Age of Jackson.
1815-1845.
The epitome of badass, no apologies, American sumbitches. Forging and taming a nation that was won by the previous generation.
Trudeau is an authoritarian, so it makes perfect sense.

The difference between a left wing authoritarian and a right wing authoritarian is a classroom opinion.

As far as Ukrainian Nazis go, the truth seems to matter less to many than their own ideology. Yes, of course there were many Ukrainians who favored the Nazis.
Some people seem to be in denial of this historical fact.

On the other hand, people who do acknowledge it can't seem to see things outside of a narrow Western viewpoint. Ukraine was caught between Hitler and Stalin (who already starved and killed millions of them).
Given that horrific choice, it is not hard to see why Ukrainians, at least ones who are not Jewish or Slavic, would side with the Nazis. Easily the least horrible option (of 2 terrible options)at the time, given the circumstances.

Resistance to Russian hegemony is obviously going to evoke past resistance efforts, of which the Nazis represent one of the most overt and recent.

I guess given the ridiculous mainstream propaganda that Ukraine is some Western style "liberal democracy" confuses people. Under Zelenskyy, it is the same corrupt, authoritarian regime that it has always been.

In either case, it is not only none of our goddamn business, but against the interests of the US citizenry to be involved. Unless you are a politician washing your crooked money there or heavily invested in the defense industry.

Hey look! I just a spotted self indulgent virtue signal in the wild! So brave!

That might be true, but who the fux wages have gone up? Everything else has.

Govt spending/"monetary easing"/high oil prices/raised interest rates.
Defeated both. Red sticks just prior to the battle of New Orleans. Seminoles during the 1st Seminole War 1819 or so.

Seminoles needed 2 more wars, so I guess he did a better job with the red stick creeks.
Looks like someone called 911 in East Mandeville for some reason? All those emergency services go to call point.
But haven't heard anything.
Also, no burning smells.
Can't be too terribly bad.
It was a good idea to reduce the funding for that entirely useless department. He should stand by his vote.
Sounds like the Lincoln Project guys found a new agit-prop target.
I'm sure it was real Nazis...??

Yes, but even in fierce, martial societies, such as vikings or celts, women warriors were few and far between.
In our society, even a lot of males are too soft for combat.

Given the huge, bureaucratic nature of the US military, women certainly have a place, but it is not frontline combat.

Kudos given to Boudica, Joan of Arc, and other women warriors through the ages, but they are not the norm - in any society or culture.

Cedar. Costs more but looks better over time and doesnt warp.
I think he was at Livingston. They cover that at the museum in the former Camp Beauregard (Now designated Training Center Pineville).
