re: Delta unveiling new long haul business class

You are lucky that it won't be on the A350. The pinnacle of the fleet has the worst Delta One seats out of all of the widebodies.
Speaking of the Knights...I don't see why Kelly even commented on this unless he was asked to. If not this is definitely an unforced error. I can't see this doing the Knights any good.
It'll be really interesting to see what the homily will sound like this weekend. I used to think we had an ultra-conservative pastor until ICE came to NOLA and he went on a tirade about channeling his inner John the Baptist.

In recent days, many Catholics and other people of goodwill have been deeply disappointed by the disparaging comments directed at Pope Leo XIV by the President of the United States. Ground lamb is readily available so why not use that?
If you don't like the flavor that's OK, but realize this isn't Shepherd's Pie.

re: Tips for Dumplings/Ravioli in crawfish boil
Posted by HeyCap on 4/9/26 at 2:36 am to Blackfield
I do frozen gyoza/dumplings for some of my boils but I set up an LP burner and use a large frying pan with basket, although you could also just as easily scoop them out.
I add the seasoned crawfish water and bring to a gentle boil then add the gyoza. Let them come back to a boil then add an handful of ice to reduce the boil and repeat 2X or more until cooked. Make a simple dipping sauce to out of soy and vinegar. I’m not sure all of my Japanese relatives would appreciate how I treat the gyoza but most of my family asks for them regularly.

Last year was $750. This year (26-27) it went up (gasp!) $25!
And yes, free food and beer every month at the meetings, a free coronation ticket ($140 value) and access to several other relatively inexpensive events.
They can afford to do this because the captain and officers had the foresight to own and not rent. They own their own dens, floats, tractors, etc.

The twice a year crowd always intrigues me. If you don’t attend church regularly then what makes people go on Christmas and Easter?
Same here. What compels them to come to mass on these days if they’re fine not coming the other 50 weeks. Do they think that those that attend regularly can’t see right through the charade?
Saw a guy walking to a pew this morning with a large coffee in his hand and laughed.

If you lose the basket and use a net to scoop out the cooked crawfish you may be able to fit 2 sacks in there depending on the sack size.

That fire and smoke plume were impressive.
What a ride that must be!

I expect my phone to ring any second with someone asking me if I’m ready for go. I mean, how many polls does it take?

Why is it 99% of the talking heads are female? Are the men busy doing important stuff?

Came here to say this. Parking the car takes longer than checking out. Scan & Go and the cart scanners makes it really easy.
Wife (no pics) likes the Asian products at Costco though and their wine selection is better imo.
Overweight landing is not even a second thought in an emergency.

re: Delta Air to Atlanta has engine failure on takeoff.
Posted by HeyCap on 3/31/26 at 8:08 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
Yes. There’s a calculated decision speed that is the go/no go point. Problems before that speed and you abort, enough runway to stop. After that there’s enough runway to get airborne even with an engine failure. These are practiced in the sim on a regular basis.
Don’t fret. They’re certified to take off at max takeoff weight, lose an engine, and fly safely to a landing which hopefully is the same airport but if the weather is bad they can safely make it to an alternate airport.
Fun fact:
We take off from the eastern US to Asia and typically don’t get below our max landing weight until well abeam Russia, close to Japan. That’s more than 14 hrs of flying. In other words if we have to make an emergency landing before then it would be an overweight landing which is really a non-event.

Ironically, this video demonstrates how safe flying really is. Suffering an engine failure at the worst possible moment and everything still seems relatively under control and they landed safely.
Especially considering they were probably close to max takeoff weight which is over 500,000. I’ve never left a South American city with a lot of extra weight to spare.

the best part of the job was after completing a shift, before he left the cockpit, he had completed whatever paperwork he had to do and there was nothing more to do until he flew again.
Excellent point. Unless you’re chasing $$s and looking for extra flying, you can leave work at work.

So many variables such as the airline, the aircraft you’re on, etc. but I think most like the job.
I fly internationally (mostly Asia) so my day at work is a lot different than my domestic peers. We almost always have 24 hrs in the layover city but typically need 2 rest cycles. The FAs are mostly senior so you can draw your own conclusions. It’s not for everyone and some guys strictly do domestic flying.
The most common emergencies we have are medical events (passengers) that require us to divert enroute, sometimes to an airport in the middle of the ocean.
Your seniority is everything and is the overriding factor in your quality of life.
My career hasn’t always been a peaches and cream; bankruptcies, furloughs, loss of retirement, missed family events/holidays etc., but I still wouldn’t trade it for most other jobs. Amazing pay for working 9 days a month.
And yes, river pilots make much more than most of us.

With regards to accidents, he's always trying to be the first to comment as a "professional" and because of that often jumps to wrong conclusions. He is not well respected amongst his own peers, including myself. If you want a reputable channel that's highly regarded among other pilots I suggest following Hoover on Pilot Debrief.
