That's awesome, where did he find it?
Not sure but it was well before internet shopping. He worked on campus at one point so I’m guessing he found it that through his connections.

Were they the ones that also used the backpack beer dispensers in Tulane stadium or was that Dixie? When we got older my friend bought a refurbished one so we finally got to have a beer we saw so many enjoying growing up.

I drank a lot of cheap beer in college but couldn’t do the Dog. Too sweet/malt liquor-ish. I remember the logo having a subliminal message when turned upside down.
A beer from the past

Cleaning out the attic a found this from my college days; a beer ball tap. We used to get one of these for small gatherings since I don’t think they held but a dozen or so beers, but it was nice to be able to tap a “keg” in the dorm room. If memory serves me correctly only Coors made them, or maybe they were the first. They marketed them as party balls. Good times.

I enjoy SMJ's posts on social media and would gladly spend the £200 for the bird of prey experience if I was in the area.
Why is the I-610 overpass at St. Bernard banked the wrong way? Heading westbound the road takes a left turn and it isn't nearly banked enough or flat. It should be noticeably higher in the right lane and accordingly lower in the left. Poor engineering.

I still have one in use and it keeps time well but the radio reception (yeah, I’m old) is shot so I just bought a replacement. Perhaps I should hand it down or sell it on eBay.

So how often during a year do krewes meet? You pay a couple of Grand a year, is that because they do things other than Mardi Gras?
Thoth gives you a lot of bang for your buck.
$750 membership gets you:
A meeting with free food and beer every month.
A free coronation ticket for members at the Riverside Hilton with a sit down meal, open bar, bands
Many Krewe events throughout the year such as a golf tournament, Day at the races, etc.(for a fee)
No mandated Krewe throws but the ability to purchase packages and have them loaded
Not crammed on the float like a sardine
Access to your float for 4 days prior to parade for loading
One of the best and longest routes
I can tell you my wife paid 3X more to ride in Cleopatra with half the bennies and no room to stand
If you can get in it’s a great ride!

Came here to say this. I laughed a lot more than I should have at the dialogue. Almost a caricature of himself but not really when you look at his resume.

Glad to read this thread as I've had a problems with Supreme and thought it was only me.
As for the other local brands, where are you buying them? We shop at Zuppardo's or Rouses mostly (NOLA) and was wondering who made Rouses brand rice.

I was about to say Anchor Steam but upon investigation they stopped brewing in 2023 and were bought out in 2024.

Download the Mass Times for Travel app. Does a quick search of nearby churches and times. Has several sorting features. Hasn’t let me down (except in Auckland for some reason)
re: Mardi Gras throws that end up being wasted money...

People are so saturated with throws they get to the point where they only want, many demand, specific items. I throw almost all novelty/krewe and am happy to oblige them if it is readily available but sometimes you just can't get to it in time (we moved - shortest time on the float in recent memory) or I didn't have it so I would substitute whatever was handy. 90% of the time the substitute would be dropped, most of the time without even be looked at. We're not talking about beads either. I didn't even open the sole bag of "Canal" beads I loaded because of how fast we moved.
Also disappointing is the trend of less and less kids on the route. It seems they are being squeezed out by the high school/college age kids.

Story I heard about Carrollton was a single yo-yo put a chip in a police windshield and that in no way was it targeted or as described and that turned into whatever the story became
And all of the riders were pulled off because no one would give up the guilty party, but how do you give up someone when no one did anything wrong? Also wrong float.

I’ll wait for the video evidence like we saw from Carrollton.

re: Krewe of Carrollton float riders removed after aggressive bead throwing at officers
Posted by HeyCap on 2/15/26 at 7:09 pm to MetrySaint24
The members have been drilled for a week (post-Carrollton) on what’s acceptable. This is a slippery slope. Maybe someone needs to define what aggressive throwing is. If it’s throwing no more than 2-3 deep into the crowd then riding will get a lot cheaper when crowds get a lot thinner for not catching anything. Then people will stop riding as the fun decreases causing the Krewes to contract. Maybe that’s the end game with our city leadership, at least with certain Krewes.
Edited to add: if you’re on the upper deck of a float almost everything thrown comes down pretty hard due to gravity. Maybe the Krewes just need to remove the upper decks. (tic of course)

Julie was warned of the perils but didn’t listen. Once you hit a certain membership size the price of putting on events increases dramatically.
My wife rides in Cleopatra and I think they’re to this point. But maybe not because of the nickel and diming that they subject their membership to, not to mention how many they cram on their floats; borderline criminal relative to what goes on in other Krewes. I actually believe that most of their riders know no better and if women are lining up to pay for that treatment then more power to the Krewe.
