there are a lot of locals wearing Cubs' hats down here.

A lot of Ryan Theriot fans? He was a fan favorite up here...and one of my wife's, but for more than his play I think...

Yeah...I guess Payton is from Naperville...I forgot about that...actually drive by the high school he went to every time I take the kids to daycare.

Thanks again for all the feedback...really getting jacked for the experience. Weather looks like it will be great last I checked.

Hahaha...not sure I have the cajones for a power move like that!

My favorite tip to give to first timers is to find yourself tailgating around the Indian Mounds before the Golden Band marches by. Once the band marches by on their way to the stadium, just pop in right behind them (behind the horseback police). You'll follow them down the hill and be able to watch one the band rile up the masses gathered by the stadium. Once the band finishes, you'll have a straight shot down the hill to Mike's cage, and more tailgating until the game starts. Do it. Great sights, and great picture op.

That looks super impressive. Definitely want to check that out...and a live tiger? Sounds awesome.

Thanks to all for the recs - we will put them to good use! If you see a average looking white guy in a Cubs hat it might be me...hopefully I won't be stumbling around too much.

If white. Cubs have same blue as FL.

Whoa...goooood point. Almost thought about wearing my Cubs gear since the NLCS starts Saturday...maybe just the hat!

First Time to Death Valley - Recommendations?

Posted by jhart on 10/14/15 at 10:27 am
A couple of buddies and I are coming down to New Orleans for the weekend (from Chicago 'burbs, Ohio and Texas) and are headed up to Baton Rouge for our first Death Valley - and SEC - experience on Saturday (we'll be donning LSU apparel in an attempt to enjoy the festivities as much as possible). Curious if anyone had any recommendations for us to do/see while we are there.

We're taking a bus up from N.O., arriving around 11:30 am, and are headed back on another bus after the game.

Couple of questions, if you folks don't mind:
How's the open container situation? I've been to some schools where they crack down pretty hard on it. I'm assuming it's OK to walk around with a beer here?
I've heard the tailgate scene is epic. Is there a main area for it, or is it scattered around campus?
I've read there's an area referred to as 'Tigerland' for a main bar scene - where is this located? Or is there some other area/places my buddies and I should go (is Tigerland mainly for undergrads, or is it a good mix during game days)? We've heard that a place called Fred's is supposed to be pretty good.
Any other sights/etc. we should try to catch while we're in town? Any gameday traditions?

Thanks for any info shared - super pumped for the experience!

Game Day in Baton Rouge

Hey All,

Out of towner here...coming in town in October to experience Death Valley in person for LSU/Florida...

Question...what part of town should me and my buddies head to for pre-gaming it?

Thanks for any info!
Ha, 10-4. Thanks for the direction. I'll be back later.

Good luck with the scaffolding!

Gameday Transportation from New Orleans

Posted by jhart on 2/19/15 at 12:27 pm
Hello All,

1. Sorry if this is the wrong board for this.

2. A few buddies and I are going to be traveling into the area (first timers) this fall, and are planning on going to a game up in Baton Rouge. Is there gameday transportation between N.O. and B.R.? I'd have to assume there is, but just want to confirm. Is it something that is scheduled closer to gameday, etc.? I'm guessing alumni groups and/or alumni bars provide this?

Thanks for any info you provide!
