If what you say is true, then his parents cost him a chance to play football at LSU. When I was 17, I couldn't imagine my parents making me go to a family function over something that was important enough to have a significant impact on my future.
Well I dont figure they have their family revolve around a certain school. If that school doesnt have interest in the kid cause he is going to a family function then oh well. That just shows how the recruiting is done at LSU now I guess. I for one dont think that is a good thing. Plus I'm sure his parents figure a college education from Auburn, Arkansas or La Tech that is free is still a good thing.

I'm sure he's a good kid. But, either he didn't really want to go to LSU, or he made a HORRIBLE decision and gave his opportunity to other players.
Will say this one more time. It wasnt his decision to make. His decision will be what school he signs with. He was 17 at the time and not even a Sr yet. He has parents that run his house the way "they" see fit. His decision was to mind his parents. I guess we should get more of the "Pac Man Jones" types that do what they want to, and live by the code of the streets? He has parents. They make the rules. Mine did the same thing. He turns 18 and is living on his own then I guess he can make "HORRIBLE" decisions for himself.

The truth is that this kid lives in Arkansas (albeit close to the state line), and decided that a family reunion was more important than going to camp at LSU. Let's not pretend that this kid is a can't miss stud. He's not. It's pretty damn reasonable that they decided to focus their time and effor on other DT prospects. Guys like you who are bitching about this are simply using 20/20 hindsight.
Wow....your such an insider you think the kid lives in Arkansas. The kid DOES NOT live in Arkansas. He lives in Louisiana. He goes to a Arkansas school. In fact I would say half the people there are Arkansas fans, the other half LSU.
Here is another little bit of info. The family reunion was one of those nationwide deals where they do it every 4 years or so. His parents had been making plans for it for a long time. His parents told him he was going and that was it. I know when I was 17 years old what my mom and dad said was the law. If you think his priorities were wrong for doing what his parents say, then I would guess that your the type that does the opposite of what your parents said. Or better yet do the opposite of what your coach says and wind up getting kicked out of school. Byran has the type of character that will make him a winner wherever he winds up. Maybe we need to recruit more kids with the character of the QB at Jacksonville state you think?

Thats funny. It just shows that most Arkansas fans have no idea how to take a joke.

What did Mosley say? I know that Dyer and Mosley have been on him hard about going to AU.
Whats even funnier is that a Arkansas fan posted it on Hogville saying how it was a attempt at humor by both Jones and Turner. Some other Arkansas fan then blasted him saying that he is spreading a false rumor. The first guy said cearly that it was on Jones's facebook and was a joke by both Jones and Turner yet the other dude is still cracking on him about posting a false rumor. Some of those fellas up there are not that bright it seems.

Not to mention that James Anderson (Oklahoma State) was pretty much a Louisiana boy coming from Junction City. He had said several times that he would love to stay in "Purple and Gold"......but the Brady led staff didnt give him much a of look. Even though he had offers from Arizona, Kentucky, Florida, UCLA and Ok State. Last time I looked he was in the top 10 in the nation in scoring.

La Tech is the wildcard. Several folks from JC have been saying for over a year do not be surprised if on signing day he signs with the Bulldogs. Until the coaching change I would have bet money on him going to La Tech if LSU didnt offer. If Dickey makes a decent impression on the young man and his family he still might go there. Could be the whole reason for him not announcing until he signs as to why he hasnt announced his intentions yet. If he was to announce Auburn or La Tech before signing day the entire state of Ark would go bat sh#t crazy until signing day. No real reason for him to have to deal with that kind of backlash until he signs. The fact that he wont announce until he signs should make the Arkansas fans nervous. I know several die hard Arkansas fans from JC that are just that. VERY nervous.

Jones lives in Claiborne parish which a portion of it is in the Junction city attendance zone. It is better cost wise for the Claiborne parish school system to pay the money that covers those kids education at Junction City then to have to bus them to Summerfield. Plus some of those kids (Byron for example) would have to be bussed all the way to Homer if that kid wanted to play football. Its a agreement with both of the states plus Junction and Claiborne parish school boards. Union parish at one time sent their kids to Juntion also but they decided it was more cost effective to bus them sometime back in the 90's.
And yes. if LSU was serious and offered he would have been a Tiger a long time ago.

Just noticed that "had." That is past tense. I dont not like that one bit.
Didnt mean for it to sound like that. Kinda meant the reason they got in the door. I still think they have a chance. Until Jones signs I think 4 schools are in the picture. Auburn, Arkansas, LSU and La Tech. Tech because of proximity to Junction. "50 miles from JC"
Jones loves his head coach though and I really think that his HC will have a lot of sway with him. Thats why I think Auburn still has a good chance at him. If LSU offers though all bets are off.

Thanks to Gus Malzahn. The current HC at Shiloh was the last QB that Gus coached at Shiloh before going to Springdale. That cannot be a bad thing for AU.
Not exatley correct. Josh Floyd played QB for Gus in the late 90's and set a ton of passing records at Shiloh. Gus's last QB at Shiloh was Rhett Lashlee. He broke all of Floyd's records. Gus left after Lashlee's Jr year. Floyd took over after Chris Wood's coached them a year or two. Lashlee was the QB at Shiloh when they beat Junction City in the 1999 AA semifinals 70-64. Juntion's coach and Gus Malzahn are in fact very good friends. That is the reason that Auburn had a chance with Jones and Turner.

Kyle Williams was barely over 300lbs and I would take 50 of him..i agree with you completely. speed, strength and instincts...by the way kyle made the pro bowl as alternate....dont know if hes gonna actually made it to miami.
Here is a little tidbit. Kyle's position coach at Ruston High is also Byran's position coach and DC. He says that Byran is better than Kyle was at Ruston. Better player and better work ethic. The offseason program at Junction City is the best in Arkansas in ALL classes. They have won the 2A and overall state weightlifting meet the last 3 years straight.

What is your opinion on Turner? He is 5'11 200lbs and runs track. He could play S. Might not be a bad package deal. I promise I would trade our Jr S Mike Slade for Turner right now, sight unseen.
Turner is a legit SEC type talent. Playing at a small town Arkansas school hurt him as far as being seen goes. This year he and another RB/DB from Junction City got noticed because of coaches coming to see Jones. For some reason Junction City's coach has a bad habit of not really helping his kids get noticed. He had Kevin Payne that went to ULM and as a Freshman had one of the better rushing totals against LSU in 03. He then moved to Safety has JR year and wound up getting drafted my the Bears and has been a starter most of the time the last 2 years. Payne only was noticed by the ULM staff (so I am told) because his father sent in a highlite tape on him.
I saw Turner a few years back when he was a soph play against Farmerville and he was a good looking talent then along with Jones. From what I am told he is a very good cover corner but with his frame would probably move to saftey and put on a little weight. Jones can take over games (I do realize it is AA football) but he can take over a game and make another team have come out of its regular offense just trying to stay away from him. He has been the State Title game MVP 2 years in a row. Plus this year they beat the eventual 3A state champion and from what I am told was the differnce in Junction City winning that game or losing by 21 points. Was in the other teams backfield all night long. I think he can play either side of the ball in the SEC and do it well. With his frame he would be a dang good center I think.

There is more to it than just the reunion (the underbelly of the recruiting world at work). He wanted to go to the camp.....and does want to be a Tiger. I think he could have the pen in his hand to sign with another school and if a LSU offer was phoned in he would sign with the Tigers. There are so many different rumors out there right now about who is in JC and who hasnt been. Most of it would be people speculating on things....or what they want to have happen. Until that kid signs a letter of intent I wouldnt count him as a lock for anyone. As much as the Razorback fans hate it they have to come to grips with the fact that Byran is a Tiger fan and will only go to Arkansas if LSU does not offer.

I saw a 78 Chevy conversion van that had the same interior as Mike's outfit. Was used in a few John Holmes films I think....
