Just had this at Stinky's Fish Camp yesterday, should have known someone from Louisiana would have this recipe ready to go...the owner of Stinky's is from NOLA I guess, lots of Jazzfest swag throughout the place, great place!

re: Louisiana Sportsman ???

EVERY time I go to LA Sportsman website I get popups telling me I won a prize from Google or Amazon. Classifieds have the old "send deposit I'll deliver the atv later" scam. Like the original poster said, I can't believe that Louisiana is "Sportsman's Paradise" but the sporting magazine we have is owned by some out-of-state d-bag who obviously doesn't give 2 shizzs about how the magazine or website is run. It's prolly just a matter of time before that hack-job fish wrapper is history, hopefully we'll get a magazine that actually appeals to locals and has real ads and no computer viruses.

That's the truth....that place just LOOKS like the best place to fish ever, but I've never caught a thing there.....its crazy.
"what's to stop the judge from removing hunting privileges for a year and tack on a fine with it? Hell could I serve time in jail?

Because if someone breaks the law, they have the right to go to court to offer proof that they didn't break the law, or they had a valid excuse to break the law, and they can't be punished for exercising their rights. If you have a good faith legal argument,a judge can't punish you for trying to convince everyone you're in the right. You may get stuck with court costs if you lose but they can't throw you in jail just for trying to explain your side of things....

re: Fly rod and reel question

Posted by LA2La on 1/8/18 at 9:59 pm to
The problem is that if you sell it and get a lighter rod and reel for trout, you will be hooked on fly fishing and then want a heavier rod and reel for bigger fish...don't sell it yet, you may regret it!

My one piece of advice that I really really mean is that you should bury the dog yourself. It was a very cathartic experience that brought closure and felt like I was giving her the respect she deserved for being such a good friend.

+1 on this. But what's crazy is when it's at a vet and I've heard a couple people say something like "Its too sad, I could never be in the room when they put her down..." I'm thinking "Wtf! After 10 years you want the last face she sees to be some stranger?" Crazy.

I am so sorry. I've had two beagles put down, and it's rough. When I was little, an old timer told me that dogs are the most noble and generous creatures in the world, and they are ok with passing on when they are old because they know there are a lot of abandoned puppies that need good homes out in the world. That helped me deal with the sadness a bit.
Lol I totally see what you did there...
Imagine showing up to hunt and there's a bunch of anti hunters in the field trying to spoil your hunt...

LINK
The problem is that this has little to do with coyotes and a lot to do with how many anti hunters there are....if you post things on Facebook that makes hunters look like douches, someone who didn't really care about hunting before might be the next PETA member because of a careless FB post. Big deal you say? Well, once there are enough of those bleeding hearts, they start getting Anti hunting laws passed....for example, see California, where all of the hippies living in San Francisco and Los Angeles urban sprawl can vote to regulate hunting or farming in the other 99% of the State, where they probably never even set foot.

A thoughtless FB post might freak someone out and make them anti hunting, and converting someone who doesn't care about hunting to an anti hunter can never work out in our favor.

Ever since I was a kid in Northern Cal I been using a $12 Haydels DR 85. My nephew got me a precision high end Lares for 100 bucks, shoot I wouldn't use that thing to prop up a wobbly table. There's never been a call as good a Haydels!
Those are spectacular....well done

I had a similar problem on a little outboard, thought it was the carb, turned out to be a spun hub.
That looks like a blast, and those photos are pro-quality, they look like they should be in a sporting magazine...good work.

Awesome knives, so functional and old-country looking. Haven't seen one of those for years. They definitely have character
Dudes who work at the DWF said he's really a good guy, trying to get up to speed and not trying to bullshite anyone by trying to pretend he knows it all.....I guess it remains to be seen how he will be once he figures it all out, just have to sit tight and wait

I used to work on a charter boat in Southern California and we'd always use ginger capsules like someone above said. It avoids the drowsiness of prescription meds. Ginger calms the nausea - that's why they always used to give kids ginger ale when they were throwing up - the carbonation, the ginger and the fluid settles your stomach and rehydrates you. Ginger capsules at GNC and prescription stuff for a backup to cover all bases.

If anyone knows the family and can help them set up a gofundme page, it can help the family during this difficult time. They set up one for Nick Tullier (the officer shot in Baton Rouge) and people all contributed a little bit to help out the family for child care, meals etc. so they could focus on being at the hospital. Even a few bucks could go a long way in helping out the family.

Keeping the family and Tyler in my thought and prayers....
Good call. Wish there were more hunters in La like you. I'm in a big club in St. Helena area and members have killed 3 deer under 60 lbs this year!!!?? It's a shame people don't give more of a frick and just want to shoot something....

Man, what a heartbreaking story.

But, when you think about the good life you gave that dog, that dog must have lived more in that short time than any dog that lives 25 years cooped up in some yard in the city. I always think that's the best way to honor a dog that's gone - to adopt a new pup and give it a shot at an outdoor life, and save it from being stuck in some tiny yard for its whole life, with the only time it gets to go out are on visits to the vet.

re: Bonfires on the levee

Posted by LA2La on 12/18/16 at 4:24 pm to
This kind of tradition is why Louisiana is so freaking cool. In California, the Sheriff would cite you for the illegal burning of materials along a waterway, Game Wardens would write you a ticket for endangering non-native river dwelling species through use of fire, the Coastal Commission would fine you for pollution for any ashes that drifted into the river, Harbor Patrol would ticket you for interfering with navigable vessels through use of incendiary light producing devices, and Customs and Border patrol would fine you for burning wood that could be used to create housing for illegal immigrants. AND you could never signal Santa Claus because it would be insensitive to people from other countries that don't celebrate Christmas....
The problem with Mr.Seidemanns point in the law review article is that yes, land that becomes part of a navigable waterway due to erosion technically becomes State's property, but it's also supposed to work the other way also. Waterways that get built up due to natural accretion are supposed to vest in the riparian landowner. However, it's clear now that because of the various activities going on in the waters of the State, it only goes one way now, and landowners are losing land to the State. This only really is litigated because of the mineral rights. There are new cases trying to test this theory- if land is lost because of the actions of the states, do they get to cash in on something they caused or helped cause? States will start seeing more and more cases like this, especially in the light of "global warming" sea level increases, when landowners start losing their minerals over time
