I really don’t post much on here anymore unfortunately. Don’t have the time with the actual BSoBR group and all that but we practically started in TD 4.5 years ago. It’s taken that long but we finally have our name on a barrel. Know we have a few members who post on here but thought the rest of y’all would get a kick outta this.

We’re calling him the Wolveryne. Five and a half years old Rye Whiskey from Knob Creek. It’s pretty fantastic. Retails at Oak Point for $42.99 for BSoBR members or $47.99 for everyone else.
Da goat Unc! That’s been my favorite Roses Barrel Pick that I’ve had personally.
Russel’s Reserve Barrel Pick from Louisville and Toy Story 2. I know what I’m about.

It’s finally happening for BSoBR. After 5 long years we are officially picking our first barrel: Knob Creek Rye. If you’re a member and want to participate in the selecting process, let me know. We are choosing one next Friday, the 28th, at 4:00. Can’t lie, I’m ecstatic about this one.
I know I’ve been MIA the last couple of months but hope that the board has been doing well. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes setting up the Bourbon Society of Baton Rouge and actually launched it 3 weeks ago. On one hand, we are doing the same things like always, such as our quarterly get togethers but we are also offering members a lot of benefits like 20% off at the Lost Cove on alcohol and 10% off Barrel picks at Oak Point Fresh Market and a ticket to all our raffles.

There’s more benefits and we should be announcing a few others by the end of the month too. All the info about joining and the application can be found at the link below. Dues for joining are $50/year and that also includes one of our etched oak taster glasses.
BSoBR Website

I know we have a few TD guys already signed up but hopefully a few more of y’all will be interested. We have a some cool events on the horizon for the rest of 2019 including a private tour of Three Roll and Four Roses tasting of all 10 recipes.

Also for the month of June we’ve been running stretch raffle goals. We are up to 108 members which means that we will be raffling a bottle of Four Roses Small Batch Select, Smooth Ambler Old Scout Single Barrel Select, Blantons, Weller 12, Whistlepig Rye 15 year old Whiskey. If we hit 150 members by the end of June than we will add the GTS to our member raffle that we’ll run in July 1st. If we don’t, than we’ll still raffle off everything else and put the GTS for a raffle when we hit 200 members.

If you have any other questions just shoot me an email at david@bourbonbr.com I’m happy to answer any questions or concerns. Cheers!

First Pour of the night, BMH at Smuggler’s Cove. So glad this place is back.

Then I got into some Rock Hill. Man I miss this stuff.
Not sure when they open. Tom told me they were planning on 3:00 but dunno if they’re opening that early this week as they are still getting their ducks in a row still.

Anyone going to this want to pick me up that ER10 pick?

Tom will probably have these available for sale till he’s out of them. Won’t just be tonight. You can run over there anytime to snag one.
Thanks for posting this Wick! I’ve been trying to post back on here more but forgot to post about our event.

Isn’t the Bowman Eagle Rare juice that is shipped to Virginia for additional aging?

Yep it’s Buffalo Trace distillate that they get shipped in and then they distill it again before aging. It’s all fantastic stuff from them honestly. I always recommend Bowman Brothers and John J Bowman as my go-to drinkers.

Got this today. Honestly, surprised by how much I like it. Nice to sip on while watching the Tigers play!
Issac Bowman runs for around $40 and it’s solid. I’ve been a fan of it for awhile now.

Forgot who recommended Sterling Glassware on here but thank you! Got these guys in today and couldn’t be more happy with them!
Lol this would be awesome. I’m in for whatever the group wants.

Good call on that shortcuts, very cool, thanks Weskarl!

How’s it going gents? It’s been a while. Picked up this today courtesy of Mathernes LSU. That store is pretty nice, curious to see how they do with all those college kids.
I spoke at my dad’s funeral. I have a brother and sister and all three of us spoke. I wish I could remember what I said or how I did but I honestly don’t remember anything of substance from that day. I kept it together for my talk though, I remember that. But after my family exited the sanctuary and we went to meet guests i couldn’t keep it together. I saw my uncle and we just lost it.

That was equally the best and worst week of my life. Pancreatic cancer is a bitch. Losing your dad 2 days before your wedding though made for a difficult week.
I live right down the street from the crash and drove past the accident scene this morning. I saw him on the ground as the EMS were working on him. Couldn’t see much because of the fog but I’m surprised he’s alive honestly. He didn’t look to be moving at all as I drove past him.
I have an 03 Limited with 260k miles. I had to replace the water pump and timing belt about a year ago but that’s about it. No serious issues or anything else like that, just a solid SUV.
My middle name is Juedeman which was my grandma’s maiden name. Honestly, I’ve always liked having a unique middle name plus my grandma always loved me most because of it. Totally normal first name though so I got that going for me at least.
I was pretty sad honestly. Problem was my dad’s funeral was the following day. He died the Wednesday before our wedding Saturday, so we ended up getting married Friday night instead and his funeral was Saturday. That whole experience is the epitome of bittersweetness. It was equally the best and worst few days of my life.
Planning on either Baylor or OU, decided on Baylor. The morning I was leaving on my senior trip with my buddies after graduation, my dad told me that he thought paying all that money for me to go to Baylor was a bad investment on his part. Felt like something straight from Van Wilder. He did just pay for my sister to go to a private university in Chicago and didn’t want to pay all that money again. I was pissed at him for the summer but that ended up being the best thing to happen to me. Stayed in BR and went to LSU and the rest is history.

Which recipe? And is it good?

It’s OESF, 8 years 6 months old. It’s decent. Nothing like their older stuff. I do tend to think that a mediocre Four Roses pick is better than most other bourbons though.
Wanted to thank all the TD guys for showing up and bringing so many toys. We raffled off over 30 items including 20 bottles of liquor, mainly them bourbon/whiskey. Shout out to SMS, Wick, jflsu and whoever else came. Can’t remember all the TD handles anymore. Also shout out to The Cove and Calandros for donating bottles to our raffle, it definitely helped with getting so many toy donations. Speaking of that, I was hoping to get 50 toys that night, ended up with 187 toys for the toy drive and $500 in online donations. Not too shabby given the weather and everything else going on.
Yep that summarizes all the info Wick, I appreciate it. No fees/dues or anything like that. Just bring a toy or a few if you want to participate in the raffle. It should be a lot of fun tomorrow night. The raffle items are pretty darn crazy this event, I can’t lie.
Friendly reminder that the annual BSoBR Christmas Party is this Thursday at 7:00 at The Cove. Tom is giving us half off all whiskey plus the flight is Lot B, Rebel Yell 10 year & 1792 Sweet Wheat for $24.

We are doing a toy drive this year for Toys for Tots. Every toy you bring in is a raffle ticket for our drawings so bring multiple toys if you want. Person who brings the most toys automatically wins a prize.

Here’s a list of all the whiskey bottles and beer we are giving away. Shout out to Calandros and The Cove obviously for sponsoring our event and donating bottles for the raffle.

Cancer can tear down the strongest of men, that’s what happened to my dad at least. One afternoon he was begging for death instead of having to go back to chemo. That was miserable to see my dad go through it. I’m just honestly glad we had about 6 weeks between diagnosis and the end.

Grandpa’s death was the most shockworthy though. I was in his backyard mowing and he was sweeping up the grass clippings in his driveway waiting for me to finish. It was noon on a Saturday and drunk driver hit him in his driveway. He was hit so hard he flew 25 feet away from impact and his watch actually fell off his arm at the point of impact and lay next to the broom. That was crazy to go through when I was 11.
My dad pulled this off at Chrisrmas in 2002 when the new ‘03 4Runners came out at Christmas. But he was old school, my mom never touched the check book till he was diagnosed with cancer. He just bought the car and didn’t worry about trading anything in because he had 3 teens who could drive by then.
