What's your current position? I've noticed your post in the past, am wondering if your in operations or not. Seems to me that one day your hating on operators because they "have it made" to applying for a operator job. And now your giving advice to a guy on how to get on as an operator.
re: 45% of new grads who actually find jobs, are taking "no degree needed" jobs
Posted by loganfoster on 4/12/16 at 12:36 pm to Kujo
I don't have a degree or had any previous experience in operations when I got on. A degree may help you get noticed against a 19yo with no degree. Everyone I know that has a p-tech degree says they've learned more in 6 months in the field. As far as the safety council training that was mentioned, that's required but not a deal breaker. They will put you through the required training. Think about it, every single person that walks through the gate of any plant has basic osha, most have confined space and scaffold user. So just having that will not get you hired.
Best advise I can give you from a guy that worked for years as a contractor to where I'm at today, is to keep trying and don't give up. Politic when you go to a plant, put your name out there. Most plants that are not union hire ppl they know. The reason being is we find that more and more ppl can make a resume look good and do great in interviews but when it comes down to learning the unit and troubleshooting, they just can't cut it. Therefore, if you hire someone that you know/or someone recommended, chances are they will be better than the previously described person. Let me know if you still having problems getting on with a contractor and I will help you. My way of paying it forward.

what would you do?
Posted by loganfoster on 4/8/16 at 10:03 pm
Was out on the boat, anchored out enjoying a few cold ones with friends. The area of the river on this particular day had a good bit of boats (maybe 100 or so). A random guy pulls up and ask if he could tie up on the other side of me, he had some cute chicks so I said sure. A little while later he decides to catch the taxi boat to the bar. A few hours later, this random guy has not came back and we were ready to go.
What would the OT do? Wait til he got back, throw his anchor(or not) and untie his boat from yours, or go look for him.

Ariat pants are pretty comfortable and have a nice finish to them like regular jeans. Ariat, cinch and carhart has nice shirts. The Henley shirts of all brands are comfortable but seem to shrink alot. I have a pile of Ariat and cinch shirts, some still with tags on them. Let me know if interested in buying them. I no longer need them.

Crazy while reading this thread, this song came on.
I personally think a girl is cute in a hat. Like anything else though, there's a time and place for her to wear a hat.

If you are an operator and have worked at so many different places, then maybe that's saying that it's not really your specialty. If you were worth a damn, then you would still be at the first place you worked. Just stick to shittin in porta pottys, operations is not for you.

Is this for an actual interview or to take a test?
Usually they let you pick the day that's good for you to test, but the actual interview is on their schedule, you don't get to pick the date.

re: Performance review

I get my direct enployees to do an annual self assessment. It's a simple 5 section review where they rate themselves from 1 to 5. And give an explanation. They submit to me, I go over it and I add my ratings and explanations. I then go over it with them that way everything is out in the open between the employee and myself. We discuss a pay increase that reflects his rating. Everybody walks away knowing their strong points and weaknesses. And making more money.

Anybody watching this kimbo slice fight?
Damn it's sad, definitely looks to be staged. They have fought 1 round and both guys can't even breath. I would be pissed if I paid to go see this. I'd rather watch worldstar

Springfield is a decent school. They have good scores from what I understand. Some decent respectful kids go to school there.
But if your looking for a "white" school, I think that will have to be holden in livingston parish. I can't speak of any closer to baton rouge, as I'm from Tangipahoa. In Tangipahoa I'd have to go with Loranger or Ponchatoula.
