re: Good game LSU

It’s not our year. No excuses. Team sucks, and aTm appears to be a real threat. It’s incredible how much a change 365 days can be. LSU will be lucky to get into the Tourney, and the Ags are a real threat to get to Omaha.
Guilbeau’s response is correct. McMahon was a lame duck, and Johnson will be fine. LSU was screwed in baseball after last week, and despite the sucking, their fate isn’t sealed this weekend. I’d say the next two series are even more pivotal. A run against Miss State and South Carolina and they could get back into the mix. If not, those will be the deciding factors.

You gonna hit up any Spurs games this series?

Sham Gabehart

Sounds like one of those generated names on the old Ken Griffey Jr baseball game.

Gabehart came out of the dugout to argue a call and began removing his uniform. He threw his hat and two shirts, standing barechested near the third baseline.

This is embarrassing. You wanna flip your shite and yell, go for it. Standing topless like you want to throw hands? What a douche.

That would be in Pittsburgh
I get you are venting, but it’s pretty easy to explain.

Most people are stupid. Stupid people tend to do what they are told. MSM is telling them to care about this.
Isn’t there some large resort they are considering building in Fredericksburg?
quote:

why? I don’t get the appeal of this place.

In 2026, it’s a trendy place to go. I went through there around 2017 and did some wine tastings, and the guy said that the number of applications for permits for new wineries was through the roof.

Like most things, word got out and it’s too crowded. If you want to act pretentious, go see a Texas Country performer at some crowded dance hall, take pictures in front of word art, it’s great.

The charm of the Texas Hill Country is eroding fast.

Its because it is more relevant/popular/mainstream. Just talking about it here at all much less these multiple page threads shows how much more popular it is than in the past.

I don’t think anybody will argue that. There’s also been a major push by ESPN and athletes across social media to try to get the WNBA as many likes as possible. Again, is it enough? Will the league ever truly be able to stand on its own?
quote:

You don’t think it would be a bigger deal if some guys who make unbelievable amounts of money ended the WNBA?

He’s arguing the league is popular, then saying if it went under, it wouldn’t be a major issue. That’s contradictory.

When 95% of it is negative…? I don’t think this is a situation where arguing on TD or shitting on the league is generating revenue via clicks.

World Series incoming

Yet youll criticize billionaire owners with teams full of financial advisors like they are the idiots and are losing money

I think the arguments are going in circles at this point.

As for billionaire owners: they will play the long game. Hypothetically, losing money short term for some worthy cause may be part of the bigger picture. Whether it’s a social cause, disaster relief, etc. Like you said, these billionaires are smart.

People tend to believe what they see. People here don’t really see popularity within the league that would equate to these contracts being worth north of a million. I don’t hear anybody talking about the league. I don’t recall ever seeing a WNBA jersey in the wild. I can think of maybe 3 teams that are known for having big crowds.

Because there is a larger social cause at work here, that could explain some things.

I’m not going to change your mind here. I don’t “hate” the league. I don’t give a shite if some star makes over a million. Something just doesn’t add up to me. You couple that with the athletes being known to shite on potential fans, and I find it hard to believe it’s actual value is worth what the TV deal is paying.
quote:

She was paid off

This is what I believe. The fact that she didn’t testify doesn’t mean shite when you realize many accusers don’t follow through. Going up against Kobe and a team of all star lawyers probably wouldn’t have ended well for her either way.
quote:

I mean Jerry West cheated on his wife too

I had to google to discover that. Maybe the NBA needs to go the way of MLB and NFL and create a shield or have a generic player?

The CO thing is memory holed to a lot of people to begin with. Kobe’s legacy today is as a family man

One of the most impressive PR jobs of my lifetime.
quote:

Ah yes, the old "ill screw myself out of money so the business shows a profit" move that billionaires are so famous for

Maybe I’m missing something. But if I own a team AND an arena…how do I make money when I use the team to pay for the lease? The money from the TV deal is already yours. Paying yourself from your own money isn’t a net loss or gain.

Fine. Maybe you’re right. I would also say the NBA logo shouldn’t feature a guy who was busted cheating on his wife in a way that it became front page news.

My prediction is that even with the absolute full court press the media has done, viewership falls off over the next 3 or so seasons.

quote:

I really appreciate you taking the time to discuss it with me, but I can’t make any of it make sense. It all seems like fake numbers and simply donations to a leftist cause, essentially.

I tend to agree. This kind of reminds me of the NFT craze. Things became valuable because someone said they were valuable. Your average person was not selling NFTs for thousands of dollars. These teams are apparently worth billions, but I’m not convinced that’s “real” money. Everything is based off some projection. If you look at WNBA attendance, the novelty kind of wore off after 5 years. There has been a surge the last two seasons, for obvious reasons.

I also think it’s not really a secret that the league is trying to market more feminine superstars. I think it’s smart, but I’m not sure it has lasting power.

As noted, these new teams are owned by the people that own the arena. Any lease agreement could be a gift deal, and you turn a profit because someone at ESPN was dumb enough to give you this massive TV deal that - checks notes - is basically packaged with the NBA like the league itself.

The interest is all fake. Sure, there are WNBA fans, maybe even good WNBA cities. The ONLY reason the bubble didn’t pop is because the NBA funds it. It’s all investment into social causes and optics at this point.

Has any women’s league been successful in terms of turning a profit? How is the women’s soccer league doing?
quote:

Did you miss where it gets double the viewers per game compared to the NHL? NHL has a billion dollar per year US tv deal with half the viewers per game.

You already shot holes in this argument. There is major NHL interest in Canada, and don’t think it stops there.
A league full of progressive women that are now making fun of people that earn less than 150K/year. That’s definitely going to draw in the spectators.

He still wins very very easily

This is where you lose me. I’m not saying this cannot be done, but VERY easily?

quote:

you'd only need to average 3.83 putts per hole to beat rory.

Yes, and every now and then, this pretend golfer will putt one off the green, and fool around and end up putting up a monster number. Hell, there’s a situation or two where they putt one into the creek I bet.
