All tips on quitting smoking appreciated
Posted by AmericanSpirit on 4/26/16 at 8:43 pm
Im sure this thread has been made countless time by numerous people. But hey, a lot of us picked up this dirty habit and feel trapped by it.
I've been telling myself for years I want to quit. Chantix did not help out but rather made me depressed, the e-Cig seemed to have limited uses, and the gum was hit or miss for me. Maybe I should try the patch? Any dietary suggestions?
I know drinking a lot of water helps, and certain foods make cigarettes taste disgusting.

If you're 32 years old, you have a vague recollection of the 95-96 Bulls when you were 12, and busy hanging out with friends and probably getting introduced to smoking pot and starting to like girls.

No, but I don't pretend to be on this pointless subject of comparing great teams from two entirely different eras.
Look at the box scores back then of games... NBA Finals games had scores like: 84-82, 77-69, 96-54, etc
The league has changed, times have changed.

I see a lot of wannabes who just want to assume the Warriors, who have an amazing fast past brand of basketball that still emphasizes defense, multiple shooters and ace defenders, would get outclassed and outmuscled by the Bulls who struggled with some weak Jazz teams, are under 35 and are not qualified to make this comparison.
The problem is the older generation of "experts" aren't really experts, it's nothing more than simple conjecture and assumption.
One team went 72-10, the other went 73-9... they played in different eras and had similar margins of victories.. Jordan is the best player of all time but Curry has a case to be a top 5 player of all time when all is said and done, his offensive game is that amazing.
I don't think Thompson and Green are as good as Pippen and Rodman either, but again.
The league was having expansion teams back then and this was a weird year for the league this year.
I'm not over 35 either so I'm not gonna bother to compare, my opinion is that the hypothetical series where Kerr the player has to play Kerr the coach would go 6-7 games.
But if you're under 35, shut the frick up with your Bulls knob slobbering. It's just a built in nostalgia that people want to assume the past is automatically better than the present.

Anyone else feel like OSU peak record is 10-2 this year? Feels like it's gonna be a down year for them, with an early loss to Oklahoma
@ PSU @ Wisky back to back weeks and a trip to michigan State, with an improving Michigan seems like they could have a down year in the conference.
They've been dominant of late, perhaps they're due for one of their "down years"

I'm not sure it's 100% good for the game for there to be a total lack of parity. Women's basketball is also guilty of some ridiculous arse scores and a lack of upsets like 110-28 or some shite.
The parity of the NCAA men's is what makes the tournament fascinating to watch... in women's, there is absolutely no parity whatsoever and in fact a monopoly.

Harden is a phenomenal player... his ability to draw FTA's at an extremely high clip is amazing..., but I honestly think Houston has to consider retooling the entire roster around him, including Dwight.

No, Lebron does not fit that criteria because he had some LOUSY teams around him.
He led a team with Mo Williams as his 2nd option to 66 wins.
He guided a 50 win team that was pure garbage to the NBA Finals.
Honestly, Lebron has had his share of disappointing playoff moments (2010 ECSF, 2011 Finals) but he has made 6 Finals Appearances and has won 2 Championships... so I don't think the comparison is valid.
Not to mention Lebron is a better teammate
Lebron can be the alpha or beta on a championship team, Dwight might not even be capable of being a beta and his game doesn't fit in smoothly into a championship team's agenda.
Honestly Lebron and Dwight are the same age so it's fair to compare to careers like this: ONe is 2-4 in NBA Finals, other is 0-1... Lebron has 4 MVPs and Dwight has 0... Dwight does have a DMPOY or 2 if I'm not mistaken, and nobody's saying he's an absolute scrub.
If you ask 100 random NBA players who would be a better teammate, over 90 if not 100 would say Lebron.
Lebron is still a top 3 player in the world, whereas Dwight has fallen out of the top 10.
At no point was Dwight a better player than Lebron James.

It's because American names are a little bit different than foreign names that they cannot produce as good of nicknames.
But in general I agree with the OP's premise.

KG is given a pass because those Twolves teams were hot garbage and he was playing at a time when the Lakers and Spurs were flat out dominant forces.
What he did in Boston in 2008 is more than what Dwight Howard has ever done with any team.
Dwight's best run is in 2009 and even that was a beneficiary of a KG injury and they were swiftly defeated in a boring 5 game Finals series.

I'm not talking out of my arse, I'm just too lazy to post the stats to support my claims.
And again, the title of the thread is QUIET cancer... as in, he is putting up monster stats, and was no doubt one of the best players in the world for a short while.
But he simply doesn't win... he simply doesn't win
The Lakers were projected to be a 65 win team with his addition, and they went to shite.
The Rockets haven't done much the last 2 years and were projected to be a dominant force this year.
He can be a part of the championship equation of a team, but not a major one... and it has nothing to do with his athletic talent and everything to do with his weak mentality.
Anyone else get annoyed when he does the fake yell as to insinuate he was fouled? Why? Just so he can go shoot 45% from the foul line?

As if the sport wasn't already difficult to watch, how overbearingly boring is it that one team is the 4 time defending champions and just had the first 3 players go in the draft? Does anyone wanna start their own legacy and go to another school or do they just wanna jump on an already dominant bandwagon?

His post game has always been abysmal... he's never been a dominant offensive force and is often times a black hole on that end of the court.
In his very prime he was given fits by Kendrik Perkins... and in the 2009 NBA Finals Andrew Bynum outplayed him and frustrated the hell out of him.
And we haven't really heard much from him since.

He still has 3-4 quality years left... he can prove me wrong even if by being a BETA on a title contending team.
The reality is, he's only been on 2 teams worth considering title contenders, and that's the 2009 Magic which got dominated by the Lakers and benefited from KG blowing knee out (still went to 7 without KG), and the 2010 Magic that were steamrolling all the way to the ECF.

His peak was like 3 years... greatness is about longevity in the NBA
I'll admit from 2008-2010 he definitely was one of the 3 best players in the world.
But that's such a short time, Lebron was the best player in the world from 2008-2015, Kobe was a top 5 player from 2001-2011, Garnett was a top 5 player from 2000-2008, CP3 has been a top 5 player from 2008-2016, Durant has been a top 5 player from 2010-2016, Dirk was a top 5 player from 2003-2011, greatness is about sustainability in the NBA

99.9999% of this board? I'm sure we have some great people on this board including doctors and lawyers and people who are making a real contribution to society rather than just entertaining. Hell if Les Miles is on this board that's one person alone who is better at his job than Dwight Howard.
Of course he does some things off the court, this is part of establishing a fake image. I've read that he's one of the whiniest cry baby bitches and nobody likes playing with him, but hey... he gives some of his absurd amounts of $ to the kids just so people can think he's Superman.
He is a soft player mentally, he honestly doesn't even belong in the hall of fame.

I make the most with what I got, so I feel fine with myself.
Look, he's a winner as far as the fact that he's a millionaire, but with his physical talent and specimen he absolutely is a loser on the basketball court. Anyone who has that much innate talent and doesn't even tap into 50% of it is a loser IMO.
A guy who works his arse off making $10/hour at McDonald's but is achieving the most he can given his situations is more of a winner than a guy liek Dwight Howard.
Also, he really has no character whatsoever, very unlikeable person. I honestly think Houston should trade him while he still has value, because he has nowhere to go but down. His PER has dropped below 20 this year, and he'll be 31 next year.

He was the defensive anchor, he was a defensive beast in his prime.
But they honestly only had 2 relevant seasons. When they made the Finals in 2009 and when they made the ECF in 2010 and flamed out v the Celtics. He's never been on a 60 win team even.
Before and after that, he really hasn't been on a title contending team.

Twisted logic
Non-championship teams are simply forgotten. Does anyone care about the fact that the Mavs had a 52-5 stretch in 2007? Would anyone have remembered the 2013 Heat is not for Ray Allen's shot? Although in NBA there is a strong correlation between regular season wins and winning championships.
There is no doubt the winner of the Finals this year will be Warriors or Spurs, way better than the field.

He went to the Magic, they had one lucky Finals run due to a KG injury and Turkoglu playing out of his mind.
Then he goes to the Lakers and they are esteemed and praised like a potential 70 win team, proceed to go 47-35 and get swept out of the playoffs.
He enters a good situation in Houston, they go 56-26 and make the WCF and get dominated in a bizarre year for the West were difference between 2 and 6 seed was 1 game.
Now they're 38-41 and will fail to make the playoffs, and he's on the wrong side of 30. Houston was projected to be a 55-60 win team this year... just like LA was projected to be a 60-65 win team with the addition of Howard and Nah.
This guy is a loser and needs to stick to praising God and impregnating teenagers. His athletic talent was high but his attitude and mentality are that of a non-winner.

Saban is a great motivator and a great tactician, although he's had some blunders (blown 24-0 lead, 2013 Auburn game)
Miles is a great motivator but is inept as far as playcalling.
I don't even know if he calls the plays or does this or what... Someone will have to cue me in.

I think the obvious explanation is all of this occured before the Industrial Revolution.
The greatest American victories in war (except for World War II) were before 1900 though IMO. The Revolutionary war was a bunch of farmers and militias who took down the British Empire. That shite takes balls of steel.
The War of 1812 the White House got burned by the British, and yet the Americans still overcame.
The Civil War abolished slavery and allowed for the UNITED States of America instead of two nations.
