If I’m LSU, I’m walking to the locker room, packing my stuff, and walking out of the stadium. This officiating crew may be the worst I’ve ever seen.

I hate that I have to be excited about a QB that can accurately and deftly throw a short pass.
I hate that I have to be excited about a QB that can stay in the pocket and step up when necessary, instead of immediately sprinting outside, making bad throws and making his offensive line completely ineffective.
I hate that I have to be excited about a QB that can read more than one deep in his progression.
I hate all those things, but I'm at least somewhat hopeful going forward; that is until BH trots out as our starting QB on Saturday...then all hope will crumble.

Great numbers, lotsa work there. Before they mean anything, I need to see those stats compared to other SEC West coaches, SEC coaches, and national coaches. And don't give me the "talent isn't equal" speech, because that is a subjective measure. I'm not arguing the point being made, but without the other numbers, this is largely meaningless.

re: Miles Set Up Jennings to Play Poorly
Posted by TheMungBard on 9/29/14 at 2:16 pm to jaguar fan
He routinely missed his short pass attempts, never looked off primary receivers (even when multiple receivers were present and open), and made some poor decisions in option situations.
Nothing against Jennings, I'm just pointing out the fallacies in the argument presented.

Yeah, I just got notified of my club level seats as well. I was initially in sticker shock due to location, but after seeing the amenities (extra leg room, televisions, as well as those mentioned above), I'm quite happy to pay the $135 per.

Great food all around. Must try Pok Pok (Whiskey Soda Lounge). The wings are incredible.
Obviously the big name breweries, but there are some good local flavors, too. Hit Apex or Green Dragon to get a good cross-section of local beer on tap (Apex is awesome, but bring cash).
If you head up the river to Hood River, go to Double Mountain Brewery. Great beer and fantastic pizza.
So many good places to try, Portland is a beer/foodie mecha. One of the few places in the country that can hang with south Louisiana for food, and they kill us in beer.

Would have been nice to see Great Raft out of Shreveport down here too. Maybe another distribution issue. Perhaps Crooked Letter and Great Raft will both make it next year. Getting better all the time. (yes, more bathrooms please!)

I don't think Miles wanted to put JJ in as early as he did, but from a purely logical standpoint, it made sense. If you have a big, physical running QB as your backup, why would you risk injury to your starter in that situation...

High-stepping into the end-zone
Posted by TheMungBard on 9/26/11 at 10:14 am
Isn't that supposed to be a penalty this year? I know it is nit-picking at this point, but when WV scored (I think the first touchdown), their receiver started high-stepping on the 2 yard line. I thought that beginning this year, that was a dead ball penalty at the spot of the foul, then -15 yards. Did anyone else notice this? Maybe I'm just confused, certainly wouldn't be the first time.

women trainers for a college football team = not a good idea
Really? Shelly is one of the most respected trainers in college athletics. Not just in football mind you, in all of college athletics. You laugh at her rubbing down a players leg muscles after a great play, but you don't mention her out on the field supporting Craig Loston's head during the scary moments after the hard hit when we didn't know if he was seriously injured or worse. You don't mention the long hours that she (and the other training staff) spends away from her family and friends to ensure that the boys we root for so ardently are ready to play physically and emotionally.
I have the pleasure of knowing all three of our head trainers and I can say with all honesty that I cannot imagine a group of more professional, competent and dedicated people. Sure, the angle on the video was cause for a snicker, but to come on here and belittle the job that our training staff does by stating having women trainers is a bad idea shows a complete lack of respect and knowledge. Go ahead and laugh at the video, but please keep in mind that the person you are watching, and the rest of the staff along with her, are outstanding at their jobs and LSU Football is only in a position of national prominence because of the hard work and dedication of the many support staff working behind the scenes to keep our team in shape.

You guys are idiots if you keep contributing our offensive mediocrity to Crowton without acknowledging the fact that Miles has his fingers so deep in the offensive play-calling that Crowton really doesn't have the option to run it as he wants. Add that to the under-talented (I love the guys, but facts are facts) QBs that we have, the injuries to our offensive line and I'm down right ecstatic with how this season turned out.
To put it simply, to hell with you bunch of whiny little bitches. If you don't want to support the Tigers (or worse yet, if you think that this nay-saying gibberish you keep spouting off IS showing support), we are all better off without you. Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

I would agree that the delay of game was the only real questionable (horrible) call. There were some missed calls, but that's true in every game and it happens on both sides of the ball, we just notice it more for our side.
The delay penalty needs to be reviewed by the conference officials and that needs to not ever happen again. Regardless, it was a great day in Death Valley!

I have a problem with a fan in the stadium that leaves early to "return to the tailgate" when our 12th man is clearly a deciding factor late in games. If you are going off to your daughter's soccer game, to see your sick father in the nursing home or to go run to raise money for cancer, then good on you, but to go back to the tailgate so you can get some more alcohol, not staying to give your full support to the team that clearly needs every ounce of help it can get, then your opinion means less to me than whatever you were depositing in that time-warping port-o-let.

Doesn't really matter. T-Bob snapped it early. I'm glad he did, because it worked out for us, but he snapped it with 4 ticks left on the clock. Who really knows if Jefferson would have gotten the play off, been in position, scored, etc.? Now it is all just speculation.

No way he should have dropped the ball, but I do not think he had a chance to make the endzone either. Regardless, they didn't score on that drive.

Personally I think you are all drinking the same kool-aid. My take is that GC has never gotten the opportunity to run the offense, as CLM has always had his fingers in that piece of the pie. GC is just the bag-man at this point and I'm not sold that any other OC is going to make a difference.
As long as we keep winning, ugly or not, I'm happy. I spent too many years languishing through the Archer/Hallman/Dinardo years, watching us give away the close ones, to be nay-saying the statistically winningest coach in LSU's history.

Maybe he hasn't thrown a TD in 10 quarters, but he's thrown several that "should" have been TDs if his receivers would have come through. I'm not blowing any sunshine up his arse just yet, but he dropped a couple of nice balls in there that could have been caught, but weren't. The upside with those is that he put them where only his guys had the opportunity to catch them.
JJ made some nice plays tonight. Next week is another game and we'll see if he can continue to improve.

re: 12 players out for UNC vs. LSU
Posted by TheMungBard on 9/3/10 at 10:03 am to OGTiger
This is far from great news for LSU from a media standpoint. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad our guys will have the opportunity to kick off the season away with a decent chance at a victory against a still very talented team. I just think that, in such a highly touted, nationally televised game, the window of opportunity for a "media win" is small indeed. If we steamroll UNC, the pundits will simply say that is what should happen when an SEC team faces a team whose defensive has been completely decimated. If we keep it close and only eek out a marginal win, those same pundits will claim that we obviously aren't a very talented team and our ranking could even fall (doubtful, but possible). If we lose, well, we deserve whatever we get in that case...
We have a schedule that will provide us with ample opportunity to make a statement, but I was excited to have the opportunity to see us come out of the gate strong against a highly rated opponent. Now, even after the game Saturday, there will still be a lot of questions.
Geaux Tigers!

9-3 is still 9-3.
By your argument, you would rather have the #8 scoring offense and a 7-5 (3-5) record and a trip to the Liberty Bowl than a 9-3 (5-3) record and a trip to the Cap One?
Hmmm

I hope he isn't gone, for a couple of reasons.
1) Sure, there were some problems, but he is working with a short stack. An inexperienced and under-achieving QB who doesn't fully understand the system (but who has gotten better) working behind a porous O-line that cannot establish a running game or protect said QB is not a good basis on establishing how good (or bad) an OC is.
Note that several of the plays that he got hammered for calling in the Ole Miss game are the same plays that got us down the field and within field goal range in the Arkansas game. As long as he and the team learn from their mistakes, I can live with them (to an extent). The team is 9-3 this year, and barring poor clock management in Ole Miss (not the OCs fault) and some bad officiating in Bama, could well be 10-2 or 11-1. For any who remember the Archer/Hallman/DiNardo years, we are still living in golden times.
2) We are already going to have to replace Porter and probably McCarthy. Trying to replace too many pieces in the puzzle is never a good idea.
3) I do not know Coach Crowton personally, but I do know his wife and some of his children. They are upstanding people and are great role models for others in the community. Now I know we are talking football merit here, but this is just another (albeit personal) reason that I want them to stay.
Just IMHO.

re: Assuming Miles keeps his job after this season...
Posted by TheMungBard on 11/22/09 at 10:17 am to emmanuellewis
He needs to take some grad assistant and assign him the task of doing NOTHING other than watching the clock and managing timeouts, etc. He's proven that he cannot do it, so recognize the flaw and do something to correct it, even if it is an external correction. That's what great coaches do...fix their own deficiencies by assigning someone else to handle the aspect is question.
And I'm not buying that it is all Crowton's fault either. It seems that Miles turns Crowton loose when it suits his whim, but reins him in at other times. If we are willing to give Miles another year, I'm willing to give Crowton another year to see what he can do with (as previously mentioned) an upperclassman quarterback.
