re: SEC TV Deal

Did the relationship with CBS and SEC get sour?

The relationship should have always been sour with the peanuts $55MPY the SEC got from the Commercials Broadcasting Company. $55M divided by 15 (SEC Office gets a share) is $3.67M per school. Bama was shown the maximum 5 times every year so they got $733K per game. If they had the TV rights to those games, they could have received $3.67M per game.

If Alabama is/was #1, then CBB is in trouble.

Generally the Power 5 inter-conference games take place in the early part of the season before cold weather sets in, so all the chest beating about cold weather is irrelevant. In truth, weather conditions for these games when taking place in the South are much harder for the northern teams than the reverse, since weather in early fall is milder in north than heat and humidity early in the season in the South.

Exactly. Big 10 plays nothing but conference games after September.

Texas ain't coming. SEC has required OU to cancel ALL future OOC games with SEC teams. SEC has not required Texas to cancel ANY future OOC games with SEC teams. There can only be ONE reason for that. Because Texas is not going to be in the SEC. Look for Texas to go to the Big 10.

JFC….pruitt is the epitome of Bama dumbass

Might be a DA, but the guy can coach some defense. Was the man in the press box in 2011 and 2012, back to back NC years, telling Saban and Smart what to do on defense. S&S were lost without him in 2013. And where was Pruitt in 2013? DC at FSU coaching defense on his third straight NC team.

The biggest surprise yesterday was Bama's D. A&M QB is bad and yet he passed for 250 yards in a contested game. That will be their issue against MSU, Ole Miss and UT.

A$M got 17 points from turnover possessions. They got 3 points from non-turnover possessions. And you want to blame the defense? Retain possession and not even get a single point and Bama wins 24-3. Probably would have been more like 31-3 or 34-3.

Honest Question, when was the last time we saw this many QB rotation in the first half of a season? Or have I just never noticed?

Just off the top of my head I can think of 8 SEC (6 in the West) teams that have either by injury or performance (not special QB packages or garbage time) had to play a second QB for extended periods.

Bama - Injury
LSU - Injury
Ole Miss - QB Competition
Auburn - Multiple Injuries
Arkansas - Injury
Texas A&M - Injury
Vanderbilt - Performance

Someone on ESPN U said that when Young went out, Alabama put Derrick Henry in at QB.

Bama-A$M game is all over the board in Vegas. Probably because of the injury to Young. Anywhere from -14.5 to -23.5

Nah, they'll be alright when they start preparing for the teams they are playing rather than preparing for Bama. I picked them to go 7-5 in my SEC West Predictions this year. Here is a reply from one of their fans, and my reply to him plus some comments in bold on their first five games.

That's what Michigan thought against Appalachian State in 2007.
It's why I have you 1-5 going to the bye.
It's why you had to score in the last minute to beat Colorado in 2021
It's why you lost to Arkansas and Mississippi State before playing Bama in 2021.

This is from 2014, but I see no reason why this would not still be valid in 2022.

* A reminder on the October 11th CBS doubleheader: CBS does not have the top two choices of SEC games that week. They have the top choice and the 4th choice for that week. When they have their primetime doubleheader on November 8th, CBS does get to choose the top two games that week.

The passing defense for Arkansas is worse than that. Yes, you can be worse than being ranked last in FBS. I ran across these stats this week.

If we take those 131 teams and add the 123 FCS teams to the group, Arkansas is ranked 251st out of 254 teams.
If we combine those teams with Division II, out of those 416 teams the 'Backs are ranked 412th.
To cap this off, if we add in Division III teams, Arkansas is ranked 649th out of 656 teams.

Meh, the SEC has always had teams that don't play very often. I want to say Bama and Ole Miss went from 69-70 until the early 80's without playing. LSU-Auburn had a long time in between games.

Huh!? Bama and Ole Miss played in '71,'74,'75,'76, and '77. Bryant and Vaught liked playing against each other so much they did not cancel their '80-'81 series when in 1980 the SEC went from a Six game minimum rule to a Six game minimum/maximum rule.

Both already had 7 SEC games scheduled. Those remain the only two games in SEC history played by current members, at the time, against each other, that did not count in the standings.

They such whoever it is.

Back in 2010, the SEC still had 12 teams. Alabama played 8 of them. 7 of those 8 teams had a bye week the week before the Alabama game, the 8th had a FCS team IIRC, meaning the SEC also gave them the week before Alabama off.

Alabama took theirs the week before LSU, so that kind of canceled out that game. Alabama also played FCS the week before Auburn. But it was just amazing how whoever made the scheduled allowed every team Alabama faced to do that.

Was nothing new. And it was 6 teams with open dates and not 7. Arkansas played at Georgia and Florida played Kentucky prior to to their games against Bama. The seventh bye was Georgia State, which the SEC had nothing to do with.

The only difference in 2010 was ALL 6 of the teams used that open date to take a bye. In the past a few would schedule a cupcake and a few would take a bye. Bama would complain, nothing would be done about it, and life would go on. SEC got egg on their face in 2010 and had to do something about it, thus the rule for a maximum of three byes against any one team.
