It sounds like Southern Cal is pursuing Gary Patterson. Per one of my cousins, Batoon didn't get past the phone interview and there was a lot of pushback from the boosters when the social media posts broke suggesting he was the target.

10 starts at OG. Solid pass blocking grade but had problems run blocking. They bounced him from side to side which may have been part of the problem.
Stone, Pierce, and Mitchell are the only guys that would get minutes on a good team right now. Robinson is disappearing, Barrett is Temu Flip Pressey, Crews is 4-15 from 3 in SEC play and is awful on defense. Boateng, Mack and Phillips can all make a shoe smell but offer little else.

They have to land a legit boundary Wr or they will be counting on Montgomery or Lanier to be something they havent been in college. Goodie doesnt have enough lead in the pencil and Fields doesnt have the long speed. If they dont get Lee, Olugbode is the only proven quantity outside and Fields plays the slot. Not optimal.

If they cant get another DE, Hopkins has to hit fall camp at 255 and take over the field DE. He and Smith have the most upside in that room if nothing is added. Adding another quality DT is a must IMO.

I think the oline will be fine. Jones has a good track record with 2nd year interior starters. Tollison and Delgado were a mess in 2022. They were great in 2023. CamRon Johnson had some struggles in 2023 and was 2nd team All SEC in 2024. Nothing is stopping Wilson, Peagler and Giudice from making comparable improvements.

Pogue's coaching chops will be tested this year. He put a solid product on the field last. Hopefully we qet more 2023 and 2025 as opposed to 2024.

Im not optimistic about Yaro's room. He added some quality bodies but the play has to be more assignment sound.

I swapped over to the Buffalo/Denver game so could watch Allen choke in the playoffs.........again.

If Chambliss gets another year, Lee will stay at OM

Lanier was solid track athlete. Decent 100M time (11.36 sec) to go with a great long jump (22'5"). Those were his Junior year #s as he early enrolled as a Sr. The twitch hasn't made to the field as of yet. Maybe Peeler can help him unlock it.

We will see what he does vs P4 Tackles. He wont be able to overwhelm a technically sound tackle with outside speed unless he as a serious amount of bend without solid counter moves. Setting the edge is a huge unknown as well.

DIII DE the staff just offered. He was an All American this year with 21 TFLs and 15 sacks. He is also a two time All American sprinter at 6'5 225.

He and Phillips need to attend the Doug Smith Free Throw Shooting School For Big Men.

Greco, Bass, Banner and the 3 portal additions are your 2 deep. Phillips was the odd man out.

He had one of the best DE in the league opposite him.

Wilson also had the luxury of taking countless snaps next to McClellan, who commanded a double team on most plays. He simply didn't make enough plays vs the run IMO. You have to be able to stack and shed a defender.

That room needs a kick in the arse. Too many missed blocks, dropped balls, too weak after the catch.

Could Wilson return

Could? Yes, but i think its highly unlikely. The sacks were great but he didn't make enough plays behind the line and tackles overall vs the run to get the money he is reportedly asking for. Double digit TFLs is the expectation at his position. He came close but shedding blocks vs the run wasn't something he excelled at. Smith had 4 fewer TFLs and 7 fewer tackles on far fewer reps. Him leaving isnt good for the team but neither is overpaying for him.

Bad news for Norfleet, James, and Hoffman
Anyone watching the ESPN Playbook broadcast? Luke Kuechly and Chase Daniel talking ball clears Joe and Troy.

The only one I've heard as a real possibility is the DT from Hazelwood East, Tionne Gray
