At my dad's funeral, the minister kept referring to my dad by my brother's name. I told the minister after the service, but he continued to make the same mistake at the burial.

Why don’t you include it in the cost upfront instead of hiding it in extra fees?

I can answer this one: The rental rate is taxed, but the cleaning fee is not. If we included the cleaning fee in the rental rate, the guest would be charged 12.75% tax on the cleaning fee (9.75% state and 3% county).
It's always amazing to see prices at $2,000 or more for TVs and Stereos then. That's in those dollars. $6,000 or more adjusted for inflation. TV had been around a while, as had devices to listen to music. And they were paying more than $6,000 in our dollars for it. What a huge investment just getting a good TV was. I'm shopping around if a 70" TV is $500 in our dollars.

It started for me on Sunday. I think that's the sickest that I've ever been. Today is the first day that I've felt close to normal.

Mountain City, TN is geographically closer to Ontario, Canada than Memphis, TN. There is that lake to get around, though. So, Google maps puts the driving distance to Windsor, Ontario as 17 miles farther than Memphis.

Zenith is the way to go. High quality wood and workmanship. Doubles as a useful display table.
Ecuador's currency is the U.S. dollar.

Yeah, I saw those prices and thought that was high for Ecuador. Makes sense that it's L.A.
I was doing ok until they dropped me in Alaska. I missed that one badly. Didn't even consider that.

On the Spam subject - for my dad, who served in combat in the Navy during WWII, it was orange marmalade. They had to eat that every day to avoid scurvy [sometimes, due to food shortages on the ship, it was one of the few foods they had). He wouldn't allow it on the table after the war.

The war did keep him off cigarettes. They had those on the ship even during food shortages (some of those shortages were due to being in typhoons and the supplies couldn't get to them), but they had been fully stocked with cigarettes. So, he smoked to curb hunger. After the war, smoking only reminded him of misery, so he didn't take up the habit.

re: Let's discuss Halsey

I don't know who that Halsey is. I thought this was going to be about Admiral William Halsey:

I heard a lot about him growing up because my dad served under him in WWII. My dad hated him. He served under Admiral Spruance, too. Loved him:

I spent the night at London Gatwick. I was 21 and had an early flight to go back home. I found a group of seats to lay on and had my luggage situated where if anyone took something it would be noticeable to me and wake me up. There was a very attractive woman who was about my age across from me who did the same thing. It helped me go to sleep knowing she was there. When I woke up after about 35-45 minutes, she saw I was awake and went right to sleep. Then she woke up and I went to sleep…and so on and so on…. I never actually talked to her – seemed at the time like it would be creepy, but we watched out for each other most of that night.
Hey, guys! Sorry I'm late for this thread. I thought I had plenty of time, but got caught in traffic on the information superhighway. You know how it is. I guess you started without me. That's cool.

Notre Dame and Georgetown are in the 201-300 range with Georgia and Tennessee. I'm pretty sure their alumni are appalled to be grouped with southern state schools.

UAB is in the 201-300, but neither Alabama nor Auburn made top 500.

Oh, so "that's the joke."
I was late to the party, so the OP already was edited. Rest of thread not what I expected. I wish there was a function here where you could see the OPs OP.

re: Anyone ever been to Banff?

Posted by ParkMTN on 12/26/17 at 9:47 pm to
I went in August and the hiking was great! Banff is beautiful, but we enjoyed Jasper even more. Jasper has a great town right in the middle of the Park and there is so much to do within a short distance. In Banff, things are much more spread out and it's a lot more crowded, so you spend a lot more time getting from place to place.

My suggestion is to spend more days in Jasper than in Banff - and to stay IN Jasper, that's essential. Don't stay in the town east of the park.
Yes, let's not lose sight of his original post, where he said he made passionate love to Senator Bob Taft, Sr. in a hayloft.
I didn't read the OP because it was long and the 2-21 record made it seem not worth it. Anyway, I do have a somewhat relevant story. My dad was shot a few times on his way back from combat in the Pacific in WWII. A gun malfunctioned (or someone was an idiot) and quite a few took bullets. No one died, as most were hit by bullets that had ricocheted off other objects before hitting people and everyone had a chance to cover themselves so they got hit in the arms and not the head or vital organs. But he had a bullet work its way out of his arm as late as the 1980s.
