Oktoberfest 2026

Going to Munich for a conference that overlaps the first weekend of Oktoberfest.
I read some old threads in here and good some good info.
Couple of questions:
Can you go without tent reservations (or maybe minimize them) and still be able to grab a seat at a smaller tent or outside? Likely to just be my wife and I, maybe another couple.
What are the laws/regs in Germany about open containers? I went in 2014 and can’t remember. I’m sure on the grounds it’s fine, but couldn’t recall about walking from bar to bar in the city, etc. I’m used to Louisiana laws on that which I realize is unique in the US.
I would be interested in hearing what tents people enjoyed and a general idea of what to expect.

Did this last summer with a group.
We considered both ways but ultimately didn’t want the stress of handling the boat ourselves. In retrospect we could have done it but the captains aren’t expensive, it’s just the arrangements for them to sleep costing you more for the boat.
I think the best thing he did was to wake up at 655 every morning and reserve a mooring for where we were going. That would have been stressful.
I agree with the comment about JVD. No mooring balls there and anchoring can be very dicey, especially if you don’t go early in the day. It gets super crowded, super quick. The captain pointed out several boats anchored in the reef and I think you can incur a big fine if you get caught
One thing we did that I loved was to do the more touristy stuff very early in the day and then we typically did crowd avoidance in the afternoons. We went to a few islands/beaches with no one there. Had we not had the captain we wouldn’t have necessarily known how to go about this.
We brought some food to cook on the boat but enjoyed eating and going to the bars most of the evenings.
Willy T’s was a very interesting place for sure. Very interesting crowd and clientele to say the least.

Good luck finding anything decent there under $500k and prepare to pay private school tuition. I’m not arguing there are great places to live there, but they’re generally not starter homes

Ignoring the travel bag situation I feel like you can almost fly them there and back for what it costs to rent and then at least have your own sticks.

I think it depends on the context of seriousness.
Us kids on eBay if he’s just starting.
Once he gets serious put him in some ping ProdiG’s or wait until he’s 13 or so and get some actual Pings
Upgraded my 11 year old into ping prodiG about 6 months ago. Far and away better than US Kids—we’ve had basically every variant of those they make. They’ll reshaft for free one time as well.
Ping is king for junior golf

Played LBV today with my sons (11,7).
Pace of play fine for us, we’re slow, but probably faster than kids who never play, they play a lot of junior tournaments.
Greens are overseeded in rye, maybe rolling 6-7 at best. Ate my 11 year old up, he didn’t get many to the hole after being more used to the 10-11+ we’ve been rolling at Le Triomphe lately.
Talked to the guys working the course, they had an issue with disease awhile back and had to shut the course down and rework the greens. It was fine for us, but if you’re super serious, I would avoid LBV for now
We had fun, but not worth the Disney golf prices, IMO

I hunt north Louisiana just a couple of times a year. Putting my 11 year old on a stand this year nearby, but terrible cell service and you can’t always localize gunshots. I have a 7 year old begging to go too and I can’t be in two places at once. My 11 year old does shooting sports at school and has done more gun safety education than I have, so I’m not worried about that part.
I want a set of 3-4 walkie talkies I can rig up with earpieces that will reliably work for at least a mile, maybe 2, depending on where my kid, buddies, and I am. It’s dense pine and oak forest up there for the most part.
Won’t use them often, so I don’t want to spend over $100 if I can help it.
Appreciate the help.

As if we needed another reason to dislike Cassidy. I also feel like Kennedy is a door to door salesman at times, but is 1000x better than Cassidy.
Won’t bore the board, but I had a fairly lengthy interaction with Cassidy as a medical student many years back when he would occasionally come to the clinics—he’s a piece of garbage. Everyone shuddered when he came through the door.
I’ve held my nose and voted for him. I don’t think I can do it again.

Scrambling today with my 9 year old just for fun. We’ll scramble from the reds like DeChambeau and just see how low we can go (it’s never very low). On 9, I stuck a 56* within 3 feet from about 82 yards. My son steps up with his 8i and puts one to about 12”. Made for a proud dad.

Heard rumor of 109 golfing members currently.
We go through pros like drawers, unfortunately. Thankfully we’ve kept Thomas Wartelle and Popp in the teaching facility.
Just turned and burned two excellent young pros who were super enthusiastic about junior golf, which pissed me off.
I’m a touch scared to post about the GM, I’m afraid she might trace my IP, but ol boy who went scorched earth and deleted was incorrect, she’s tough to deal with and I’ve never heard anyone else say differently in my 6+ years as a member.
