I've never understood why this is even an issue for head coaches. Seems you would always want the past stars of your program around.
But it is constantly discussed and apparently some coaches do a poor job with this.

Going with JD, because there were long periods of games where TM was not involved. Some posters seem to have some recall bias slanted in TM's favor.
In addition, TM penalized for being on the field 1/9/12 - and I seem to recall a few passes being completed on him.
