Looks like a KSU quarterback

Good point, Roger. Just the type of QB that Bill Snyder typically loves, but he apparently turned down their offer and picked Tulsa initially. Perhaps he was nervous about how long Snyder would be at KSU since he's 77 and recovering from cancer treatments.

But it also seems that he's not interested in KU either. Could be that a kid from such a small town wants to get out and see what the world has to offer, rather than stay at home in Kansas. Couldn't blame him if he did.

Good article on him linked below - his HS has 151 students total!

You're right, I just came here to brighten up your day. We probably won't get Joseph to cross the line, but it's sure fun to see such an "awful" team as KU getting him into a KU uni on his twitter page, even for a day or two.

I'll come back and aggravate you later if Tony Hull lands any more La recruits.

Good luck to you all ... Dave

Thanks for mentioning that - I see your board is all excited about signing the 17th ranked player in La. We have 4 La commits ranked higher than him.

"We" as in KU, "You" as in LSU. Got it?

Well, if that makes you feel better about losing your 3rd, 5th, 14th, 15th and 29th ranked recruits, good luck to you.

Josh Smith is ranked 14th in La as per Rivals;

LINK

Plus we currently have commits by the 3rd, 5th, 14th and 15th, along with Pooka Williams who is 29th, not 30th.

Regardless of his ranking in La Williams is an excellent prospect.

KU - afternoon y'all

Thought that you just might want to have a look at what's happening in the KU football recruiting world of late;

And we picked up a commitment from Josh Smith from Landry-Walker ... maybe y'all know of him?

Have a good day!
KSU is our local deadly enemy today. Used to be Mizzou (Missouri) before they tried to go to the Big 10, but were turned down. Left instead for the SEC.

bless their heart, they try though

We have to, owl. I don't think that the State of Kansas has a 4* or better recruit this year. LSU fans don't know how lucky they are, we have to go to other recruit rich states, like Texas and now, La.
I've been surprised by the way the majority of Tiger fans respond. I can see why some recruits have a negative impression of the response they get from home fans.

On my home board we're obviously disappointed when a potential recruit opts for another school. But the average response is to wish him well and good luck.
Great interview. Tony discusses what it was like to start the Warren Easton program, NASA, where to eat the best food in Nola, and why all those recruits committed to Kansas Football - 23 minutes;

I didn't write the Rivals article;

Aaron Brule DB Metairie, LA 6'0" 165 5.6 2/5/17

Here's a link to photos of the new locker room - supposed to be the best in football;

Read the OP article - Mike Lee and Tony Hull, along with that win over Texas, are critical factors. But of course, our HC David Beaty is a tremendous recruiter and positive force all around.

Add that to some of the newest and best facilities in the country, along with a great college town, and you're starting to understand.

That win over Texas sure did wonders

You're right. For you guys, it's all a laughing matter. But imagine if the Tigers had a record like us over the last decade;

1 2016 Big 12 2 10 0 .167 -10.65 2.52 David Beaty (2-10)
2 2015 Big 12 0 12 0 .000 -15.22 3.87 David Beaty (0-12)
3 2014 Big 12 3 9 0 .250 -6.86 3.48 Clint Bowen (1-7), Charlie Weis (2-2)
4 2013 Big 12 3 9 0 .250 -8.58 2.84 Charlie Weis (3-9)
5 2012 Big 12 1 11 0 .083 -6.70 6.22 Charlie Weis (1-11)

I think that you're wrong in every aspect, other than LA being a top recruiting state. But time will tell who has it right.

By the way, in December, Beaty received a 2 yr contract extension until 2021. So if he's successful in rebuilding KU, no-one expects him to leave for another job.

Tony Hull may have long term aspirations to be a College HC, I don't know for sure. But I really doubt that he's going to leave soon, ie. in the next few years. He's made a commitment to all those LA kids and on his past character, I very much doubt that he'd break that and disappoint them.

Don't forget, T.Hull left a much higher paying job at NASA to coach at Warren Easton just to help kids succeed in life. He stayed for around 7 years there and lifted the team graduation rate to 100%. I don't think that he's motivated solely by money, otherwise why would he have quit NASA and also stayed at Warren Easton so long?

A good number of them will stay at KU for the same reasons that they committed in the 1st place. Plus Tony Hull will be picking up LA players for several more years.

He wasn't in NOLA yesterday just to eat some more of your great cooking. I see that Tiger commit Kelvin Joseph picked up a KU offer yesterday;

I think that you're looking at it from an SEC viewpoint. I recently read an article from 2014 where it describes how 5* and 4* recruits are paid through the "shadow booster" system that exists in every successful SEC school.

Now I'm not naive enough to believe that this doesn't happen in Big 12 schools too, but I doubt that it's to the same degree as it is in the SEC. One thing that I know for sure ... we aren't outpaying LSU and co. If you think about it, there have to be other reasons these kids decided to commit to KU besides money.

Read this about how endemic payoffs are in the SEC;

Manhattan is where KSU has their university, whereas KU is based in Lawrence, about 40 minutes from KC. The campus at KU looks like this;

You have a great memory for grudges, Dignan. Lester Earl, that's a blast from the past! 1997 ... I paid little attention at the time to the havoc he created for the LSU bball program. I just looked up this article online and he says that he misses LA - here's a quote;

"Time heals all wounds," Earl told the Advocate. "If I could start anywhere it would be here (Kansas) and gradually work my way back to Louisiana. I miss the crawfish etouffee every day. You can't find cooking like that anywhere else in the world."

Lester writes an apology letter mentioned here;

The NCAA act all innocent like they don't know about shadow boosters - it's hypocritical.
Mike Lee from NOLA Landry-Walker had a tremendous season at KU as a Freshman in 2016. I think that he totaled 77 tackles despite not playing in the first 2 games. He's one heck of a hitter - look at this video of the hit of the year;

LINK

That hit is just one of the 77 reasons he made the All-America Freshmen team. The fact that he played in 10 games as Safety, most of them as a starter, is a big reason these LA kids want to come and play at KU.
Here's a article that explains how KU recruited 6 LA kids so far for 2018;

LINK

Here's short excerpt from the article;

Just over a year ago Kansas head coach David Beaty hired Tony Hull as his running backs coach. Most Kansas fans had never heard much about Hull. He was a high school coach who built Warren Easton High School in New Orleans into a state-title contender. Before that he was an engineer at NASA. He left his job at NASA to join the high school ranks taking a big pay-cut.

Before Saturday Hull had already lured five recruits from Louisiana. One of them is Mike Lee, a four-star recruit from Landry-Walker in New Orleans. This season as a true freshman Lee had 77 tackles and made several Freshmen All-American lists.

“He was a freshman All-American,” said Devonta Jason, who is the nation’s eight-rated receiver. “Watching him (Lee) make the plays he did as a freshman and getting the playing time he did stood out to me a lot.”

Then there is the family atmosphere all of the recruits talked about after their visits. Harris has known Hull for a long time going back to youth football.

“I have known coach Hull since he coached at Warren Easton,” Corione Harris said. “He knew me back when I was playing little league football. He is an awesome man. He has a great personality and always wants what is the best for the kids. That has always stuck out to me and he treats me like he is a father.”
For those of you who seriously want to know something about how KU managed to pull all these LA recruits, here's a good article on the topic from KU Rivals site;

LINK

i can't believe that anyone could seriously think that Tony Hull would become a coach at KU, almost 2 years ago now, then successfully recruit kids to KU, all for the goal of getting the RB Coaching job at LSU? It just seems so far fetched.

I personally don't expect that we'll hold all these LA kids to their commits. We've lost recruits before you know. Doesn't LSU lose kids who commit every now and then? There's a semi continual thread that pops up on JayHawk Slant Rivals board where posters complain about how kids don't respect the word commitment anymore.

If Hull quits and goes to LSU this year, I'll be surprised. But if we lose a few of these LA recruits to other teams, it wouldn't be a shock. Happens all too often with other HS kids ...
You guys are dreaming. I've lived in KC for 35 years or so, KU fan all the way, even through 0-12 and 2-10 seasons, and even worse. I rooted for Clemson in the recent game, not because I like them, but because they were playing 'Bama.

I would actually pull for LSU slightly over those guys just because I dislike teams that win every year. You may act like you don't care about Nelson Jenkins, perhaps he's chopped meat for you, but for KU's DL he's a great find. We usually have to pick up juco DT's.
Here's a brief bio on the man that LSU missed out on, Tony Hull;

LINK

I don't know how long KU will be fortunate enough to keep him on their staff. But a little background on what type of man he is;

He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology in 2004. Following graduation, Hull spent four years working in the engineering field, including three years at NASA. He gave up that job at NASA in 2007 to return as a coach and teacher at Warren Easton High School. His goal was to help local kids.

He did that for 8 or 9 years until David Beaty offered him a job at Kansas. Read the link above for more details.
