What jobs has he turned down that are better than TCU?
Riley is 2-3 against the SEC. He has played SEC teams a grand total of 5 times in his stint as head coach at OU. That's not exactly getting "smashed on the regular" by SEC teams. If we can hire Riley, which I doubt, we would be fools not to do so.
I agree with you that he would be a homerun. But if you had to pick one knock against him, it would be the fact that he inevitably loses at least one game a season that he is predicted to win comfortably. It may only be a result of the talent he has to work with, but it still happens. For my part, it's not a big enough knock to not hire him.
In terms of pros and cons, the always loses a couple head scratchers is definitely a con. I think the no ties to the south thing is overblown. Matt Rhule had not so much as sniffed the south when he coached at Baylor and he parlayed that into an NFL head coaching job. Scott Frost had never coached within 500 miles of Florida when he got the UCF job and obviously that worked out well for him and UCF. I think a good coach, that is a good fit, and that can create the culture we need is paramount over ties to the geographic region.

Chris Petersen makes no sense for LSU. He retired because he was tired of the stress of the game and recruiting. Putting him in the pressure cooker at LSU is not going to be a fit for that lol. He's a great coach and would have been great at LSU...7 years ago...
Matt Campbell talk has died down because hiring Matt Campbell would make too much sense. Not as exciting as many of the other options. But a steady presence that I think would be good for our program. Haven't decided if he's my #1 choice, but definitely up there.

Matt Campbell - Unique fit

I think Matt Campbell is an interesting candidate for LSU. Takes a very different approach from a lot of the other coaches on the list. Has taken no shortcuts to build a winning program at one of the most difficult places to win in all of college football. I would be interested to see what a Matt Campbell program with LSU's resources and recruiting base would look like.

Curious to hear what everyone else's thoughts on Campbell are.
