re: What is the best metal song of all time?
Posted by johnqpublic on 4/17/26 at 10:09 pm to Bjorn Cyborg
Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth may well be your favorite, and I wouldn't debate that. But "best" is so utterly subjective to a million parameters as to be a fool's errand to even try.

David Gilmour at the Hollywood Bowl. 2nd place would be Van Halen at the Bowl as it turned out to be their last ever show.

You sure abut that? Their touring keyboard player was Reg Webb, and he was blind.
Reg also played on the album Play Deep. While not "in the band" he was far more integral to the album than "a friend of the band"

If you mean the "Hollywood" we've all grown up on, then likely yes. But there will be a Hollywood in some fashion. It just may be hardly recognizable to its past self.

AI movies and tv won't be as good
At first
I feel like this should always be tagged with "at first"
the technology increases exponentially. Think about where it was just 5 years ago. . .now what happens when you give them 10 more years
Agreed. There is also an aspect that most never seem to understand. Future generations will be raised on more and more AI content. I am old AF and I have watched tastes change over the years. I remember when the Star Wars prequel trilogy came out and they released the character photos. I thought "what is this garbage"? It looked like someone with a crappy digital camera took pictures in the back room of a grocery store. Gone was the depth of field, the better lighting, the drama of similar character photos from the OT. Look at the posters for the PT, IMO, they pale in comparison to the OT. Yet, that is what people born in the early 90s were "told" Star Wars should look like. I can make the same case on digital movie cameras vs film as well. I still prefer the grain and depth of field and lighting of movies made from about 82-95, before digital took over.
So AI doesnt have necessarily have to get as good as "human created" content, future generations will be raised on what most of us may find as inferior. But that's all they will know. In addition, I predict at some point AI will be DESIRED over human creations by future generations. Every generation has to reject the previous status quo in some way and claim their "own" art. I think at some point, art created by humans will be seen as "old-fashioned". Sure, some will still be around, but it will be niche.
And this doesn't even begin to address the economic factors that will lead current studios to move in that direction and for younger people to use these tools because they can't afford a Red camera or whatever the latest is.

No more escrow accounts for me.
My wife and I have an interest-bearing bank account set up that we automatically transfer what would be the amount we would have paid for monthly escrow. We then just pay the property tax when due out of that account. Yes it takes a slight bit more on my part, but we make sure we set aside enough so the tax doesn't surprise us and interest on the money in the meantime.

Anyone that thinks We Built This City is the worst song of all time has lived a blessed life of limited music. While not a great song with many flaws, it is far from the worst.

No… and yes. When Alex goes to record solos, he does a few passes. He then leaves and Geddy comps the solo from the various passes.
That said, Alex is brilliant. But to call him the “most underappreciated” is a Far Cry.

My guess is the night vision goggles. It is tunnel vision. This video does not simulate those accurately. I believe, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, both people in the front seats are supposed to be scanning because of the limited visibility through night vision.
I know a guy who used to fly Marine One, flew Ospreys and now flies for a major carrier. He said he used to fly this route frequently. It sounded to me like it was always an accident waiting to happen.

They filmed all three movies at the same time. It's not like they did one and took 3-4 yrs to do the next.
Irrelevant. You sign a 3 movie contract knowing that you will shoot all three before the first comes out. Said contract is for lower pay than usual. You STILL have a section where you will share in profits if ANY of the movies hits the mother-lode. This is done before a single frame of the first film is shot.
Me saying you "fire your agent after the first is a hit" can still happen after all the films are shot. Clearly your agent knows nothing and as soon as you see you will be missing out on millions for all three films, you should choose to never work with them again. Hence...fired.

A good honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold
My wife took her Toyota in to the dealership for oil change etc. It had just under 50k miles but was just past the 5 year warranty.
She was sent a video saying all looked good, everything was fine. When she went to pick up the car, she was told that her car was leaking oil in an area that would require the entire engine to be dropped out of the car. She was told it would cost about $4,000... but maybe the warranty wold cover it.
Nope, the warranty would not cover it.
So we took it to a mechanic I had dealt with for my older car and who had seemed honest, He would not tell you something needed to be fixed unless it did and even then would tell you how urgent it was.
He put the car up and looked around... no leaks. Not even in the slightest. He showed us everything he was looking at. He said there is no way this car needed that $4k repair. And then he proceeded to charge us nothing.
My wife went back to the Toyota dealership, told the service manager everything. He asked the guy who told her the car needed the expensive repair about it and that guy quit on the spot.
Needless to say, my wife plans to never return to that dealer and when we were looking for a new car for me, we scratch Toyota and Lexus off out list.
