You guys don't even know how to direct your anger anymore. Trump isn't sending in troops, and Israel are providing their own troops, so you now you're mad Trump isn't sending troops so you can be more mad at him.

Me--tool snob

This is me. When someone brings up Ryobi or Harbor Freight, my brain classifies them as someone who doesn't do thing with tools often.

A buddy just bought a house from an "influencer". Neighbors all said they acted like their shite don't stink and they underfed and watered their chickens and never kept up with the property. It's a million dollar house in a nice neighborhood in Florida.

I don't reckon the underlying snobbish is the problem as much as it is the individual. I've met guys that are cool and guys that are snobs from everything from motocross to golf.
I usually tell them up front that I'm not interested but if they want to waste their time to hear that after wasting their breath, I got time to waste.

I fully support the attacks. But the succession plan seems to always favor the overthrown regime. Wish there was a better answer. If we would just hammer their nuclear facilities until theyre no longer recognizable i would consider thay a win. There doesnt seem to be amy fight in the civilians to keep the next round of ruthless dictator types from gaining control.

Working for a PE owned company our corporate team was getting about 30-40% at best of bonus for last year because didnt meet goals so only got individual ones.

When we were PE owned, they set the company goals that bonus is structured around so unrealistic that the 100% mark would have been a crazy return to the investors. It was quite the sham job.

This is the first year I've hit 100% bonus and I'm waiting on merit to be announced. Should be known in a couple of weeks. Standard is 3% but I've taken on a whole other department with way more problems than the previous so I expect more than the standard. If it's just the standard, I've got a standing offer somewhere else I can consider.

I'm just praying that we either get bought by a competitor, or I get a fat package based on tenure. All the other options are no bueno.

Get the lube ready for the PE. They don't provide that for you.

Joking aside, my company got bought by a public company that was in a different vertical that is a dying market. They wanted to add a growth business which is what we are. Went through 2 or 3 PE's before that. Being a public company is a little different world mostly not for the good, but it's opened the door for some stuff I didn't consider while we were looking for a buyer. I didn't consider this as an option when we were for sale. Hope for the best for you.

My BIL is 20 years younger than me and he did this. He is a CPA so maybe that helped but he turned a mildly-profitable business into a real money maker in about 6 years. Now he gets offers to sell the business at a truly obscene profit. This is the same guy who routinely loses his car keys and runs his boat out of gas on the lake at least once per year. If he can do it, you can. Hard work and good people skills go a long way.

This is funny. You see so many brainloose people managing businesses. Sometimes it seems like it's easy to make it if you just half arse have your stuff together. Not related to your BIL, but are these people too stupid to realize how stupid they are? Or am I stupid for thinking it's more difficult than it really is? The one thing that has always held me back is that I make a good to great annual salary and don't particularly have to worry about the next sell or job at hand. I haven't been able to convince myself that I could keep my "pipeline" full enough to make a business steady.

I have a call tomorrow morning with an owner who is looking to exit that was set up by a mutual friend of ours. Based on what I know about the gross revenue, this one may be pushing the top end of my budget bit I figure it can't hurt to have the conversation.

Can you give some details without giving away anything you don't want to? I'm mostly interested in the vaguest form of industry you're willing to share, and more interested in knowing what portion of the business valuation is assets and what portion of the business is a customer index. The service the business fills, are they larger transactional values or smaller? Are the commitments from customers shorter in time or a longer term customer commitment?

Again, whatever you're willing to share.

Mockery is the most sincere form of flattery. . .
The argument that "would you want democrats to do this" is not a valid question. Democrats WILL do it regardless if republicans do it or not.

Don't like the premise of the WH (whoever it may be) to have control over an election, but to not do it because the democrats will do it isn't logical.
And is it too late to apply pre-emergent. Just got it yesterday but don't want to screw it up.

I work in downtown Fort Worth near the Tarrant County College campus. Yesterday there were a group of about 12 demonstrators protesting ICE. . . They looked exactly how you'd expect them to look.

I’ve paid the max into SS for at least the last 15 years, and will continue to do so for the next 15 years. Been working for 30 years, since I was 15. And now I have to share? Just give me back what me and my employers have put in. I’ll take it from here.

This is where I'm at. Rip the band aid off. We print money to support way more dubious reasons. Retired and near retired people need to continue to receive their benefit as agreed upon. The rest of us, print the money, pay us back, hell even enforce that it goes to a retirement fund. I don't care. Get the damn government out of the retirement planning. It's obviously being mismanaged, and I can mismanage my money better than the government can.
Have you talked to the permitting office or going off of what others have told you? Just curious. I've built a few things that required permits and the process was always a little more difficult than needed, but really nothing to shy away from.

I also have friends in various trades. I've had pretty decent luck finding the guys who are journeymen on their route to masters. Those guys have seemingly been hungry for side work. The guys I've met are also very motivated. The downside is you get their attention in the evenings and weekends when they're free. But I've also dabbled in virtually all of the trades at this point and the things that "fall behind" with the trades I don't mind getting my hands dirty and do the work myself.

Personally, I wouldn't let this thread discourage too much. You have something you don't want to deal with and you're trying to find a service to fill that need and asked the question. Sounds like it isn't an option. I'm not in the same state as you but the "good ole boy" system you reference has largely been worked out here unless you specifically ask for someone in a trade possibly.
Translation: We really need to make sure we focus more on criminal's rights.
Probably not directly addressing your point, but there are conservative people then "conservative" politicians.

I don't consider myself independent for what it's worth, but when talking politics with people, the ideology of being conservative is rarely supported by "conservative" or "republican" politicians. Some people can't separate the conservative voter's views from the republican candidate.

Additionally, I'd wager that most conservatives on here can find a few things they don't like about Trump, but doesn't mean you can't support him or like him as president.

Even if they are legit and say they need the money for materials, I go with them and pay for the material myself to have it delivered to my driveway/garage. I've done this with flooring, painting, whole house plumbing replacement and pool restoration including pavers/tile/pump and filter. I pay the labor costs either when milestones are met to my satisfaction or the job is complete and passes code inspections.

This is the way to do it. I'm all for helping someone get started with their business, but you gotta look out for yourself above anyone else. And if they have been in business for more than a year, they should have $2,000 to cover some portion of the next job's expenses.
quote:

Tell your friend good luck. When I put a pool in years ago the contractor was using my money to pay subs from his previous jobs. It caught up with him on my pool and the subs quit doing the work. One of the subcontractors filed a lien on my house since he never paid them for the gunite work. The $15,000 might not be all he loses if there are unpaid suncontractors. Even if work is being completed, the contractor could be guilty of not paying the subcontractors, leaving the home owner liable for payment or having a lien filed.

This is a messed up liability ladder. And I know it's true. But if you're paying the contractor, the subs should be looking for money from the GC and not the homeowner who has already paid.

I ran a small construction outfit last summer and I was adamant on not taking payment for product or services not quite rendered. Payment structure was homeowner friendly up front. First payment covered most material and a small amount of labor. Payment was due once material was delivered and the homeowner at least has that. Once a landmark was hit, the next payment was due which included the price of the remainder of the material and most of the labor. Always left 10% until job complete.

Requiring payment up front without anything to show for it is a red flag. Unfortunately it may be a $15k lesson here.

I quit the public range

I do not like going to public ranges. Accidents are relatively infrequent, but by god you see some stupid shite more often than I'm comfortable with. Fortunately my neighbor has an outdoor range that is a lot more comfortable.
Did the sign address upper deckers at all?
I tell my wife I wish I was deaf sometimes.

Damn closed captions somehow get turned on the TV with the accidental click of a button that I'm not familiar with on the remote and then it's fishing through 20 menu options to find the setting to turn it back off.
