Mix in that order.
This time if year girdle and spray is more effective than hack and squirt.
Hack and squirt is more effective in the fall(Late August to Early October) when sap is going to the roots in preparation for winter. Leaves will start to turn brown in a couple of weeks.
Craig Harper Cocktail:
1. Triclopyr (Garlon 3A) - 50%
2. Water - 40%
3. Imazapyr (Arsenal AC) - 10%
Mix in that other or it will gel.

Sorry, meant to say annual clover.
Just make sure your fall mix has some perennial clover in it or just add some to it. You plant once in the fall and have a year around food plot.
Once you disturb the soil, prepare yourself for a potential explosion of sweet gums. Using the Craig Harper cocktail and the hack-n-squirt method should allow you to keep them under control. Also, Check out Craig Harper, Grant Woods from Growing Deer TV and the guys from Land and Legacy(there are many others). They all have some information that may help you decide on a plan of action.
Birds were in the bay that Bayou Grosbec runs into.
re: Any water in Delacroix/Hopedale?

We smoked them in Delacroix on Sunday in the rain. Had our 3 man limit by 9:20 with several 18” - 19” trout. Artificials under a cork under the birds. Also caught 4 thick 25” - 26” reds. Overall a great day on the water.

Didn’t hunt this morning. Helped my partner look for the big deer he shot yesterday morning. No luck with the dog or drone. Went in this morning and I found him in a creek with just a little water on the neighboring property.

I’m on the Iowa/Missouri state line near Powersville. Best of luck to everyone.
I’m Heading back up to Putnam Co. Nov. 1st.I have a 10 day window and hope to get it done with my bow. I lease 220 acres and I’m starting to get some good bucks on my cameras. It’s amazing how well they respond to mock scrapes.
re: Tractor size recommendation. UPDATE

The MX 5400 is a good choice. I have an 11 year old MX5200 that has been very reliable. However, I’ve been wanting to make the change to a cab tractor. I ordered a TYM 4058 last week.

I’ll be spraying glyphosate tomorrow and drilling my plots Thursday and Friday. I’m a few miles SE of Pattison.
I’ve been running 4 of their data cams with this being my 3rd year with no problems.

Plots are clipped. Will watch the weather and plant accordingly when I return from Missouri. Will spray plots with glyphosate and use a no till drill to plant the following day. Planting Stratton Bounty Hunter:
Oats, Rapeseed, Crimson Clover, Purple Top Turnips, Wheat and Winter Peas. Will also add Elbon Rye at 40 lbs/acre.

re: I know prices suck right now but what is a decent average for clear cutting pine.
Posted by Bayou Ken on 10/1/25 at 4:54 pm to KemoSabe65
I’ve been trying for 2.5 years to get my pines thinned or even clear cut. I Have 70 acres of 21 year old pines in Addition to some mature pines. Beetles killed about 20 acres so I’m down to 50 acres. I’m wanting to improve habitat for deer and I’m not that concerned with making money. I’ve offered loggers my portion of the proceeds($1.75-$2.00 / acre) for pulpwood and offered to let them thin my hardwoods which I would get paid for but no takers. The only mill taking pulpwood is in Vicksburg and they aren’t taking much. If you see a large “Logger Needed” sign on HWY 547 7 miles SE of Pattison, that’s mine. Probably had 10-15 calls but the words pulp wood ends the conversation pretty quickly.
I’m in SE Claiborne Co. MS. Will be planting Stratton Bounty Hunter and will add about 50 lbs/acre of elbow rye.

In May, I planted a mix with a variety of stalky plants like Milo, millet, sunflowers and sun hemp. Have thick Japanese stilt grass.so I sprayed with clethodim 3 weeks ago. Too much debris to drill into so I’m going to bush hog plots tomorrow and use my no till drill to plant into the stubble. Will spray with glyphosate the day before I plant. Hope to plant 2nd or 3rd week of October depending on rain forecast.
