re: Standardized testing in schools

Why not just use the ACT? Set a required score to graduate. Why do we need standardized test before that?
To track performance and progress periodically and not just at the finish line
There is nothing inherently wrong with standardized testing.
It is a useful tool to measure understanding and performance broadly across different regions and schools.
Grade inflation is real.
It can certainly be misapplied, though.

Trump’s retweet of the image which depicts him as an extraordinary leader
This is likely exactly what he thought - not realizing impersonating Jesus was going to be that triggering for his strongly religious voters / supporters. It was simply an image that made him chuckle.
I’m not saying it was tactful. I’m saying it was on brand and typical for him.
He’s not religious, and religion doesn’t motivate him or factor into his thinking likely in the slightest.

And that lack of critical thinking skills doesn’t seem like a problem?
He has done this since 2016.
This time he has just offended the religious right.
Pepe funny.
Jesus not.
He posts impulsively - always has - and it likely wouldn’t dawn on him that it’s offensive because he wasn’t being serious and he spends probably zero time on a daily basis thinking about Jesus.

So he is using my risen savior and substituting himself to make fun of some vague “pearl clutchers” and I’m just supposed to go along with that?
Honestly, yall are likely thinking far harder about this tweet and image than he ever did - because he is not and has never been religious.
He likely just saw the picture, it amused him, and he posted it without much thought.

Well, the smart ones leave teaching.
So, odds are you weren’t talking to a smart one.
At least in the age of Ozempic we are now allowed to believe our eyes and no longer have to pretend that obese people weren’t living fork to mouth to achieve their gelatinous, unappealing, unhealthy figures.

I know y'all want to pretend like illegal aliens are actually crime lords with supernatural abilities who can vote in high enough numbers to turn an election your way without leaving a trace of evidence but here in the real world no, or, to salve your hurt fee fees, almost no illegal alien votes and is not a constituent.
Well, then the left has nothing to worry about with regard to more scrutiny surrounding voting?
It should turn up nothing and have very little to no effect.
We all know this is bullshite.
An estimated 4% of the US population is illegal - 13 to 14 million people.
That’s a staggering, unsustainable number on a multitude of fronts in the welfare state the left is fond of cultivating.
It’s suicidal.

The issue with doctors like this is that they’ve allowed their careers treating cancers and personally seeing bad cases to frighten them to a degree where they fail to think about actual risk in a given situation. It’s common.
How long are they going to be there? A few days? A week at most?
Wear sun protection. Take breaks. But for God sakes enjoy your vacation.
People like this have a hard time believing bad things can happen to them if they do ALL the right things ALL the time. They are irrationally rigid and excessive. And wrong.

No it doesn’t. That’s completely 100% false. A myth that has been perpetuated and believed by the masses without even questioning it.
Who tends to have the most and worst skin cancers?
A. Individuals who avoid excessive sun exposure and wear sun protection.
Or
B. Old, bald baws who spent large proportions of their lives outside and have never worn sun protection in their lives.
It’s unequivocally B.
They also look much older.
It’s literally plain to see just casually existing in the society that it is not a myth. No in depth research or special credentials required.
Melanoma can be a bit of an exception in some ways, but this is not denied by the medical community.
ETA that none of this is to say I am defending the loony dermatologists vacationing in Hawaii

re: Only the wealthy can afford Disney World

I’ve already told my wife that Disney World will never happen for our family. Can we afford it? Sure.
I will likely bring them once, reluctantly, when all of the kids are 7ish or older and will at least vaguely remember the overpriced trip we took to crowd and roller coaster land.
I can take the kids currently to “meet” Disney characters at pop-up events that take place everywhere for a fraction of the cost.
Hell, we went to Disney on Ice for a couple hundred bucks, and the kids were amazed and overcome with that sense of magic being discussed - and then promptly forgot about it. Glad it wasn’t $10K.
quote:
So no trip is worth it unless you have vivid, life-changing memories? Why bother travelling with kids at all? No trip will meet that criteria,
Not what I said.
A trip of that cost that comes with the amount of headaches and annoyances a trip to Disney comes with better be memorable
My favorite family trips that I remember most vividly and most fondly revolved around the outdoors / nature and fun activities.
Hell, you spend similar taking your family skiing, and it’s way more worth it than Disney. Your kids learn a sport in the process. Much healthier for them too.
I went 4 or 5 times as a kid.
I remember bits and pieces.
It’s not something life changing with family memories that I treasure forever or anything close to that.
Not worth it.
