For context, we moved in recently to our first home (zone 7b/8a) and I am just getting interested in lawncare. Our backyard is a mess of weeds with a little grass mixed in. I am not even sure what type of grass we have, or what can be down to help the lawn. I am hoping to have majority grass next spring/summer with less bare spots. Can anyone help me figure out where to start and what steps to take so that 9 months from now I have a semblance of a lawn?

I voted 25x for Crews, but I'll be shocked if Ivan Melendez from Texas doesn't win the award this year. Batting .421 with 28 HR's and 85 RBI's is absolutely insane. Not to mention more walks than strikeouts.

D1 Baseball Updated Projections

I don’t agree with some of these projections, but wanted to put this out here for discussion. Currently has us going to Hattiesburg as a 2 seed, Clemson as the 3 seed, and Belmont the 4.

What an absolute joke to not have Damone Clark included on the 1st, 2nd, OR 3rd team. Dude straight up led the NCAA in tackles this year and should have won the Butkus award.

What would be your opinion on the new head coach retaining Daronte Jones as DC?

I think he has done a solid job considering the injuries and stagnant offense (see Auburn, Ole Miss, and Alabama games). But we still had pretty big defensive letdowns against UCLA, Florida, and Kentucky.

re: Pods and Schedules

Here's how LSU's schedule might look for a 6-year period, assuming the following divisions:

SEC North
Kentucky
Vanderbilt
Auburn
Alabama

SEC West
Arkansas
Missouri
Texas
Oklahoma

SEC East
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
Tennessee

SEC South
Texas A&M
LSU
Ole Miss
Mississippi State

Also, assuming the following would be the structure of the division groupings:

Seasons 1 and 4: North-West South-East
Seasons 2 and 5: North-East South-West
Seasons 3 and 6: North-South East-West

Season 1
Texas A&M
@ Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Florida
@ Georgia
South Carolina
@ Tennessee
@ Kentucky
Arkansas

Season 2
@ Texas A&M
Ole Miss
@ Mississippi State
@ Arkansas
Missouri
@ Texas
Oklahoma
@ Florida
Vanderbilt

Season 3
Texas A&M
@ Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Kentucky
@ Vanderbilt
Auburn
@ Alabama
Georgia
@ Missouri

Season 4
@ Texas A&M
Ole Miss
@ Mississippi State
Florida
@ Georgia
@ South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
@ Auburn

Season 5
Texas A&M
@ Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Arkansas
Missouri
@ Texas
@ Oklahoma
@ South Carolina
Alabama

Season 6
@ Texas A&M
Ole Miss
@ Mississippi State
@ Kentucky
Vanderbilt
Auburn
@ Alabama
@ Tennessee
Oklahoma
Found this clip showing a homerun to center (421 ft). Apparently it is the 5th longest homerun in the CWS at TD Ameritrade and still barely cleared the fences.

I might be in the minority, but I don't blame Paul for this loss. At some point the players have to step up and take ownership, and it just didn't happen tonight.

In the grand scheme of things, we control our own destiny, so this game won't make or break things.

Warren Nolan - Baseball Elo Rankings

Posted by rustontiger7 on 5/12/21 at 10:01 am
I've been tracking the ELO rankings posted by Warren Nolan throughout the year. In my opinion, it is the best way to rank teams without bias and a much better method than RPI. After last night's win against LA Tech, LSU has jumped to #12 in this ranking.

While I think we are a little high here (NC State at #10 looks odd as well), it certainly shows this team can be dangerous over the last stretch. I am not a sunshine pumper when it comes to this team, particularly in regards to the bullpen, but I'm cautiously optimistic we will go 4-2 or 5-1 to close out SEC play and have a legit shot to win a regional as a 2 or 3 seed.
Curious if anyone was heading up to the Ole Miss game on Saturday, April 24. I am wanting to drive over to watch the Tigers, and would like to buy a ticket, if available.
The tweet actually says Brian Baker. I bet it's referring to this guy, and the reporter got his bios mixed up.

I'm not going to argue Nick Saban cementing his status at the top, but Finebaum can get on with this "greatest team" crap. I don't want to keep living in the past, but any unbiased fan would admit 2019 LSU was significantly better all-around. Clemson and Alabama last year were good enough to win national titles any other season. And LSU DOMINATED both.

Alabama this year has yet to beat a significant contender. College football has been weak at best this year. Give me 2019 LSU -7.5 against 2020 Alabama.

One of the best interior D-Lineman in the nation. No clue if he would consider coming here, but that’s a game changing type of guy.
I agree with this argument, although I personally would like to give Coach O one more year (I think a Natty combined with 2020 allows him that chance).

As we saw with last year's team, there is no harm in relying solely on your coaching staff to get the job done. However, you should be subsequently graded on your coaching hires and recruiting, two areas he has yet to prove himself outside of bringing in Burrow and hiring Joe Brady.
Serious question, but without the injury to Myles Brennan, would this year's offense be that bad?

I thought the offense in games 1-3 was pretty solid (save for the run game). Obviously has fallen off since then, but would Joe Brady be able to save us from this situation?
This has no impact on the current fan capacity in Tiger Stadium.
If you are interested in outdoors activities, Pinnacle Mountain State Park and Two Rivers Park/Two Rivers Bridge are great areas.

A number of breweries and cool places to eat downtown, most of which are currently open.

The Heights and Hillcrest areas have local restaurants and stores. There is also outdoor shopping at the Promenade, and indoor shopping at the MidTowne Shopping Center.

You also are a short drive to Hot Sprigs or Petit Jean State Park, if nothing in the town interests you.
It’s not as bad as people are saying. I’ve lived here (in Indigo Park) for 3 years now and haven’t had serious issues. I’ve heard of some car break-ins, but nothing I’ve experienced. Gardere is not a good area, but you really don’t experience it living on the Nicholson side. Also that low-income apartment has zero impact on my life so far, though I was worried it would.

As far as the waste treatment facility, probably one day a week to twice a month it bothers you, but nothing severe. Also important to note we live basically off Nicholson, so all the buildings on the Gardere side may have a different experience.

Just like any apartment complex, there are a variety of people, some louder and trashier than others. We looked at nicer places, but ultimately if you can’t afford to do better, it’s just fine. We are moving out in May to get a house, so it’s not a place to stay long-term, I just wouldn’t take advice from folks who haven’t lived there.

Heading up Friday with 10 of us!
Hard to argue with that, I guess my thought was the big plays made it not our “best game”. But I like your logic on why it was our best.
I would say it’s Bama. I just think if we are playing our best in that game we win by 21+

Best game we’ve played thus far?

Curious to hear the Rant’s thoughts on LSU’s best game this year? Try to avoid answering with your favorite game, but rather the one that we looked the most like a Championship team.

My suggestion is actually the Utah State game. Defense looked like an immovable force, and had a potential 1st round pick (Jordan Love) looking silly with 3 interceptions. Offense had their way, and quietly put up 600 yards of offense while maintaining possession for 41 of the 60 minutes.

I may be bias towards the defense’s best performance, but I remember that game as a complete team performance. Other thoughts?

Avoiding Annual Credit Card Fee

Posted by rustontiger7 on 3/6/19 at 9:36 am
Background:

I have a Marriott Rewards credit card which will become a year old on April 1. At that time I will be assessed a $95 annual fee, as the first year fee was waived. I called yesterday to discuss waiving the upcoming fee, and was told (by Chase) that nothing can be done until the fee is assessed, but I can cancel the card within 30 days of the fee being assessed and will not owe the $95 fee.

I plan to call and threaten to cancel the card come April 1, but I want to receive some advice regarding this plan:

1. Has anyone had success with negotiating an annual fee waiver for a credit card? Specifically Chase would be most helpful.

2. If they will not waive the fee, would it be wise to proceed with cancelling the card? Specifically, will there be a large impact to my credit score?

This is not my oldest line of credit, as I have a separate card that is approximately 2 years old. However, canceling the Marriott card would drop my line of available credit from $15,000 to $2,000. If I cancel this card, I plan to open a new credit card and obtain a new cardholders bonus.

I have no trouble utilizing my card or paying off the balance each month, but I am aware that canceling this card and opening a new one will impact my credit score (currently 760-770). I have no intention of obtaining a mortgage, car loan, etc. for the next 3-4 years, so a small short-term dip in my score is fine.

Any input is appreciated!

I saw he only had 1 assist, which is surprising considering some of the passes he was making. If our guys weren’t stuffed at the rim so many times, his assists would have been 5+.

Agreed. I think we should stay above them both. Tuesday night we will know where we stand.

Rational NY6 Bowl Discussion

Posted by rustontiger7 on 11/25/18 at 2:23 pm
Here’s the facts: There are 12 spots available in NY6 bowls, 4 in the CFB playoffs, 8 in the four remaining NY6 bowls (Sugar, Rose, Peach, Fiesta)

I believe there are 9 teams that will make the playoffs or other NY6 bowls ahead of us no matter what happens next weekend:

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Notre Dame
4. Georgia
5. Oklahoma
6. Ohio State
7. UCF (or other Group of 5 champion)
8. PAC 12 Champ (Washington/Utah)
9. Michigan

That means there are 3 remaining spots.

There are three teams that, like us, are done playing. Each of these teams could be ranked higher than us and take up one of the last remaining spots. They are:

1. Florida
2. Penn State
3. Washington State

There are three other teams that could get in with an automatic bid by winning their conference title, otherwise they won’t get in:

1. Texas (with win over OU)
2. Northwestern (with win over Ohio State)
3. Pittsburgh (with win over Clemson)

The CFB rankings on Tuesday will tell us where we stand compared to Washington State, Florida, and Penn State. If we are ranked below all 3, our NY6 hopes are over. Depending where we fall determines how many conference championship upsets can occur without knocking us back down to the Citrus, Outback, etc.

My gut feeling (and based on the committee’s love for us this year) is that we stay ahead of Washington State and Penn State in the CFP, none of the above upsets occur, and we end up in the Peach or Fiesta bowl.
