re: ‘Joe Dirt’ tribute takes top prize in Pennsylvania Farm Show mullet contest

Gotta love the dad prepping his young son for the mullet competition while sporting a Texas Longhorns hoodie. Hopefully, it’s his son and he’s not a pedo.

It appears they stole your wheels, as well.

Most perplexing part of the story to me is that a guy in Big Spring spells Florez with a Z and not a S. Maybe that flies in big city Dallas but sure as hell not in pinche “Big Springs”.

That dude was stacking bodies like they were firewood. Damn son. Someone needs to sync that up to Drowning Pool’s Bodies.

re: Corn farmers as welfare queens

If a farmer isn’t hedging with the use of futures and/or options these days they aren’t being wise. On-site storage for corn, milo, etc is a strategy but not a complete marketing plan.
Corn, soybeans, wheat are traded by the contract being 5,000 bushels each. Midwest vs Delta vs Texas productions rates are vastly different but let’s use projected national corn average of 185bu/acre. It only takes 27 acres for on contract at that rate. Half mile pivot on a section of land here in Texas will irrigate around 500 acres so hedging and the use of futures and options is critical.

Hell of a season and damn good effort this evening. Nothing to be ashamed of at all, Rebs.
bigbopper - any update on Sark?

Just remembered your post from mid November. Any updates and do you still believe Sark is coaching elsewhere next fall?

I think Ole Miss has a good chance to get the win. Should be a great game. Good luck Rebs.

You are correct, especially in small towns where there may only be a few decent players per age group. Happened with both my boys, even though I swore up and down I wouldnt let em do travel ball till they were 12. But they both got tired of not even being able to play catch with anyone on their REC team.
Something similar happened this fall with my daughter. She had always played up with some girls in our small town but they didn’t have enough to field a volleyball team for club season. We are driving twice a week to San Antonio for a bigger club and she made the national team for the age above her class. It’s been great for her as she is getting the level of coaching and play she’s always wanted. Time spent with her on the road has brought us closer and it’s doable given she is our youngest and only remaining child at home. It’s been a blast watching her chase her dreams.
We’ll stop if/when it becomes too much or she doesn’t enjoy it.

My favorite are the parents standing outside of grocery stores with buckets asking for donations for their travel ball team. If you can't afford it...find something else to do.
100%. Lady we know asks folks on Facebook for donations for her 8 year old daughter to do cheer so she can pay for fees and uniforms. She sold squares for a Cowboys game to take her daughter to a cheer competition in Florida. No freaking shame whatsoever.
We’ve never participated in team fundraisers for our kids because we chose to allow them to play knowing the fees. It’s our responsibility, not our family and neighbor’s responsibility.

re: # of players that entered the portal is insane.

Many of these kids get terrible advice or possess an inflated sense of their worth. The worst is seeing kids that don’t have any game film hit the portal as they tend to fall into a lower division or simply don’t find a landing spot.

I miss those days. My youngest is 13 now and wife and I will be awake waiting for them to wake up but will let them sleep. Happy where we are but smile big thinking about waking up at the crack of dawn to children out of their minds exited about what Santa brought them on Christmas morning. Enjoy every last second of it.
re: Do you use the F word around your kids?

Let your kids be kids. Also, it’s quite trashy to use that language around any children.
