Hopefully he enjoys riding the pine in Austin also.
I get that kids want playing time, but OL is a position that the 1st year is best spent on strength and conditioning and not getting run over by bigger and faster DL guys.

He was depth at A&M and will be depth at Texas. The transfers that start have game experience.

2026 Texas Transfer Portal, Link goes to an interactive map for Texas transfer players in and out. The article only talks about the defense. Muschamp got the kind of players he wanted.

Texas Transfer Portal

Hated to lose some of the the guys, but they made their choices. All but 1 transfer out found a new home, a RB who left the team for personal reasons, and might have quit playing football.

Some will get more playing time, but whether or not it was the best long term move,... we'll see. Trey Wisner's best 4 games at Texas were against OU & A&M. He was a Texas kid who had free food and drinks in Austin for life, and walked away from it, to end up at Florida State.

The days of signing 3 high end high school WR's in 1 year are over. But, the good news is the monies saved by having non-starters leaving opened the door for some older, experienced incoming transfers.

The article would be juicier if he named names.
There are over a 1,000 FBS guys in the portal without a home.

I miss seeing both of those matchups.

I guess there isn't anything to gain from scheduling it though?

There is no real benefit for playing them. Texas recruiting is the I-35 corridor (Denton-Dallas- Austin-San Antonio) and points east. No where near the number of D1 players west of that.

TTech stadium is small v. DKR & Kyle, ~ 60,000.

Since 1995, Texas is 22-7 v. TTech, 75.9%, 12-3 in Austin, 10-4 in Lubbock
Since 1995, A&M is 6-11 v TTech, 35.3%. 4-4 in College Station, 2-7 in Lubbock

One is not like the other.
Both are just looking at players rating without consideration about the other player attributes.

They equate:
1. A 4* JR LT w/ a .92 rating that is a 2 year starter, and
2. A 4* FR TE w/ a .92 rating that played 47 snaps in 6 games.

One is a fully developed player in a contract year heading to the NFL and the other needs to gain 35 lbs in the next 2 years to increase his chances of going to the NFL.

They are not equal.
The level of shenanigans and paying within the SEC was at the institutional level, embraced by the member universities themselves.

No other conference comes close.
The days of paying big money for HS developmental players has ended. If you can't make significant contributions as a freshman, you're not getting paid.

Most of these schools will have less than 85 scholarship players. No way they're going to pay for 105, only to have 20-30 leave every year.

Portal transfer rankings:

Pushing this will end up worse for Washington than LSU.

Too bad they can’t legally do that.

If he owes money back to Washington, LSU will just pay it. Since he signed a few days ago, he may not have gotten anything. Maybe some type of signing bonus.

A court preventing him from playing is fairy tale.
It will end much worse for Demond than either Washington or LSU. He may not get to play for either of them if this goes to court.

The BIG has standardized language in their NIL agreements and is apparently standing behind Washington's position.

Washington has a valid contract which covers his NIL. He cannot market those same NIL rights to another party without violating the existing contract, or Washington lets him out of the contract, which they aren't doing. IF LSU's actions prevents him from performing under the Washington contract, that is on LSU.
I just read a post from the Ohio State board. They are seeing the same thing Texas is. The high caliber recruits from last year that did not make meaningful contributions this year are not going to get a raise.

At the same time, those guys not delivering means going to the portal to find someone who can. We had some guys start in the bowl game for the 1st time and play well, and they want similar money to the guys heading to the NFL.

Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, etc. have all had high valued starters enter the portal. Texas hasn't lost a starter to the portal yet. PL only started because the transfer WR in front of him was hurt at the beginning of the year. He knew Texas was looking for 2 proven WR and he bailed.

Backfilling through the portal has been disappointing so far. Texas has not been "outbid" by anybody yet. We did not get 4 of the top 5 targets because those players ended up staying with their original teams. Coleman is the 5th.

As is always the case, there are a lot of chucklefricks on the boards, many more now that the season is over.

GAT BoilerPickle Doc, you intentionally left out key words that misrepresented the quoted article.

Get rid of the Texas logo, you're embarrassing.

He was offered $600K and a scholarship to play football at Texas and it wasn’t enough for him. That’s what’s “out of his control.”
This.

He was offered more than last year and allegedly told he would be getting less playing time (not starting). He does a lot of things good, but nothing he does is really elite. He was a day 1 starter because Mosley, the #1 transfer, missed the first 4 games.

Most people were surprised when his happened.

Sark has been consistent on this point; once you head to the portal, there is no coming back.

There was reference to some social media comments inferring parental influence; "... out of his control." Might of over played his hand.
quote:

1. Nobody was paying him 8m

2. He was a transfer

Overall sentiment i agree with
He committed to Texas, but signed with Ohio State.

Tom Herman was an a-hole who fricked up recruiting, and Ohio's "laws" (the State's) on paying players was different than Texas'.

You either play for the name on the front of your jersey, or you don't.

Miss State played hard last night, til the final whistle. The Wake QB lowered his shoulder to take on 3 tacklers, and getting the 1st down was a thing of beauty. That was I watched til the end of the game. Both teams played hard; one won and one lost.

Don't trivialize the game because some choose to mail it in.

they canceled their trip

Texas did the same thing to LSU

Maybe you didn't notice, but Texas is one of the few teams that DOESN"T CANCEL games.
Quinn Ewers said he chose NFL to preserve Texas relationships

Ewers reportedly received an $8 million offer to transfer for his last remaining season of college eligibility, and he confirmed Wednesday that he "had opportunities to go other places."

"I felt like what I built with my teammates at Texas and the legacy that we built, I didn't want to mess anything up there," Ewers said. "... To me, it's not about the materialistic things of this world because it comes and goes. What's important to me is the relationships that are built along the way. And I didn't want to disrupt or rub anybody the wrong way, being selfish and trying to go get money from another team, because I was a lifelong Longhorn."

"Growing up, I wanted to play there. Ended up being the quarterback there, living on my dreams. My 10-year-old self wouldn't transfer away and go somewhere else. So, at the end of the day, that was the right decision for me."

He encouraged current college athletes to consider relationships over money when deciding their future.

"That's important for these younger kids to take into account," Ewers said. "Stop being so focused on the materialistic things, whether it's NIL or whatever, and start building relationships that matter, that'll last you a lifetime."

_____

QE is one of a small group of people, that has looked beyond the money and made decisions based on a longer term view of life. A lot of other recent transfers have had opportunities for similar long term legacies at other schools, and gave it away for trinkets.

He will always be welcomed at Texas, for many reasons, like others before him.

Is it standing room to get to that number? Official capacity is a little over 1pp
I think the official capacity is the number of seats (100,119).

There's plenty of standing room only space, and there are private clubs all around the stadium concourses, with a shite ton of space, seating and bars, in a climate controlled environment, that don't use actual seats/tickets. Georgia last year was over 105,000.

Every game the last 2 years has been over capacity, except the Aug 31 game last year, w/ a 2:30 pm start.
