About 25 years ago I was travelling and my putter broke. I went to Wal Mart and spent about 20 bucks on an el-cheapo putter just to hold me over on that trip.
It's still my putter.
Lesson: don't overthink it.
I do agree that buying this new putter wasn't to magically solve putting. The original question was more on "styles" of putters being easier. I had a counter balanced grip originally. Felt fine on short putts and awkward/unconfident on longer lags. The standard grip felt more natural to get a "feel" for how hard to lag it there. I'm sure I could figure it out with anything. I have a purchasing problem, so was asking more if it was just my excitement to buy a new toy, or was it a real feeling. For now, I have no regrets on the purchase. I'm not walking around thinking it fixed everything though as I still have some work to do. And I probably could have bought any putter with a standard grip to get that confidence compared to a LAB.

Got it working today. Got something under the soft top cover and was able to open the tonneau cover. That was the hardest part. After removing the plate that covers the mechanism, the plastic clip that attached the handle to the mechanism that pulls the rods had come undone. Popped it back in and it's working. Going to order some spares. Seems to be connected well right now, so can't figure what caused it to come undone, but will replace with a new one to be sure.

one putt from a ft after a chip/pitch, it gets lost in “total putts.”
For sure. And those days with low putts certainly came from days with good short game shots. 32 putts and hitting 0 greens in regulation probably didn't move the total score. But more trying to reduce 3 putts. I use GHIN to track score with those stats. I care more right now in limiting 3 putts ana double+ bogeys. I'm a 14 handicap trying to get below 10. As with anyone, I need to hit more fairways/greens and limit putts. But putts is by far my lowest hanging fruit.

I did end up getting a LAB DF3 over Christmas. Not sure the club itself has done anything to make any change. I have had a lot better results though. I've spent a lot of time practicing. Was a learning curve with the new putter for sure. I have spent a couple afternoons at the club practice green. A lot of focus on getting balls to 3 ft and in from distance. Still had a couple high 30's putts per round days, but also gotten into the 32ish putts per round area I want to be in.

Its a 2018. Checked it was unlocked for sure. When I pull the handle, it feels as though it may have detached from the mechanism somehow. There's typically some spring resistance and that feels like it's gone or at the very least a lot reduced when I try to open it. There's nothing special like an auto open system. And when I lock and unlock, it at the very least sounds like everything is still operating as it had been. Seems like the linkage system or whatever may not be working right.
F150 Tailgate Won't Open (need ideas)
Posted by Jon A thon on 1/13/26 at 11:08 am
Stopped somewhere yesterday and pulled something out of my truck bed. Went to put it back in later and the handle to release the tailgate seems to have broken and it doesn't unlatch. Issue is I have a tonneau cover on the truck. I can't get to anything in there right now. And I imagine most easy trouble shooting require access inside of the bed. Can't open the cover without opening the tailgate. It is a soft cover, and I could get in there but would permanently damage the cover which I'd prefer not to do. Anyone dealt with this and know of a way to troubleshoot prior to having to bring it into the shop for what I assume is a simple fix I could probably handle myself.

That's my recollection. When I started . If you qualified for basic TOPS, you had admission to LSU when I first started. By like 2007, I feel like it was getting more difficult. Like I recall needing a 25 on your ACT for guaranteed admission. I remember articles about LSU climbing a bit in the rankings. Then there was the 08 downturn and all that went away.

Showing up in the final hour ensures you will get really shitty good and service too. You'll get old fries and bread, they aren't dropping anything new.
I worked in a few restaurants in college. I do get it's annoying, but employees at restaurants seem to be the whiniest people ever. The restaurant closes at a certain time. That doesn't mean your shift is done at that time. If a place closes at 10, the employee always wants to be going home at 10:15. If you made a change that the restaurant stops taking new customers at 9 so that everyone is for sure walking out at 10:15, that same employee would complain about the guy walking in at 9, because he now wants to go home at 9:15. Everyone is always trying to close out their section as soon as possible to knock off. They play the statistics that no one else is likely coming in. It's not the customer's fault you guessed wrong.
And I say this as someone who worked at a place that stayed open until 3 am on weekends and regularly walked out of the doors to the sun coming up after dealing with close out duties on super busy nights. It sucks, but it's your job.

How do you like this is a possibly semi daily driver? Almost 0% chance I end up getting one, but have to buy a new vehicle this summer. I've got a wild hair to keep my current truck for truck duties instead of getting a new one and getting something like this. They look awesome, but not sure I want to spend that kind of money on a brand new company I'm not super familiar with.

I recall taking it a couple times in Gifted and Talented. One was in the 130's, one was a 154. I have no false assumptions that the 154 was some legit number, but it doesn't stop me from telling people that's what my IQ is

I mean you get a lot of use out of it, so it's worth the cost. I'm 40 and I still rock mine regularly. Perfect segway to get to talk about my athletic accolades.
re: Cover for Concealed Carry?

I carry appendix and typically don't have issues. I have a NexBelt and wear golf type polos most of the time. I can sit and criticize myself in the mirror if I'm printing, but 99.9% of people will never notice.
I recently lost it and need to get a new one, but I had a Comfort Concealment belt which is basically a velcro'd elastic belt that I could secure my holster without belt loops and I could wear under sports shorts.

I know I had this same issue with pushing putts to the right with the LAB DF3. Then fiddled around and researched. With the shafts being further behind the face, you have to play the ball closer to your front foot. Like it's way further forward than I was anticipating. I now focus on shaft being just in front of center and not ball. Solved my push to the right problem.

I wouldn’t mess with the higher rail.
It's not a higher rail. It's a slightly canted rail. Like another poster suggested, there's really no disadvantage to having one. You'll lose some ability adjust the scope down, but I've never once done that. Even if I'm shooting under 100 yards that I'm sighted in at, the 1.xx" difference doesn't matter in hunting and is easily accounted for with holding a point on the reticle. It does however give you 20 more MOA when adjusting up. You may or may not ever use it....but it will not ever hurt you to have it.

There are a lot of used LAB putters because they're not for everyone. I can't putt well with them to save my life. Definitely try a "zero torque" before you buy one
How long did you mess with it before deciding it's not for you. Just got a DF3 (standard grip) with money I got as Christmas gifts.
I find I have confidence in short putts and decent distance control when hitting multiple putts on the practice green. However, I have one 9 hole round on the course yesterday and pretty much 3+ putted everything because I have no reference for it right now and I wasn't good at it before  . Actually bought this putter to help with that, but know it'll get worse for a few rounds before it has a chance to get better.
I will say, the shaft placement on the DF3 requires me to set the ball very far up in my stance. I now focus to have the shaft just forward of center, which puts the ball right inside my front toe. It's odd feeling and starts to creep back slightly as I go, which leads to right pushes. Another thing that will take some time for me.

Amazing how people park with 2 wheels off the path around the green. I guess it’s from habit of pulling their cars off the the side when parking?
They have pavers located to the side of the cart path around the green and tee box where I'm a member. With Marshalls driving around and the beverage cart, typically have two carts trying to squeeze by in those areas several times a round. I assume that's why people do it...to give the extra space for them to pass when away from the cart.
Broke a barrier today that's been bugging me for a few months!
Posted by Jon A thon on 12/22/25 at 6:21 pm
Broke 90 today by a good margin after struggling with it. Shot an 85. Had a lot of 9 hole rounds that strung together would have put me at this score. But for a full 18, my best had been 92. It's one of those things where I knew I could do it, but it just wasn't happening. Would shoot a 92, 93, 94, then blow up to ~100 for a stretch of rounds and feel like I was never close.
Golf is obviously a game of "if xyz wouldn't have happened". But you can't take those back. I barely had anything like that today. Mistakes were not horrible and recovery shots were there. Just one hole where I hooked a ball hard off the tee on a par three and had to re-tee and put it hole high on the green from 175. Two strokes I wish I had back for an 83 (I'm greedy ).
One of the keys today was just mental. Reminded myself I've only been playing regularly (after a 20+ year break) for under 8 months and I'm just not good yet. Bad shots will definitely happen and don't let it ruin the next shot.

Only issue I have is that he is the way he did this fight. I don't mind that he's not a professional and typically fights guys past their prime, undersized, or who specialize in other martial arts. But in this fight he was making wresting style take down moves. He was dropping to a knee and shooting AJ's legs rather often to get into clinch. Should have been treated as a knockdown.
re: Do you find you have better speed control with certain putters?
Posted by Jon A thon on 12/18/25 at 9:24 pm to TT9
I guess I've known a putter is a club people go through and often jump around. But figured it was for confidence in the stroke as far as good contact and line. I just feel like I have no clue how far short or long I'm going to be. I'm new enough that I don't expect my line to be perfect every putt. So that isn't bothering me so much. But my speed control has been atrocious on occasion. If every putt was within 10' I'd not think of changing. I'm almost more confident in a 100 yard wedge than a 40' putt right now (almost).
