know that lsu produces elite wr's? entire football fanbases know this
Nah… Louisiana produces elite WR’s
But everyone here is eating up this portal / NIL stuff and these new California / Texas boys

One of my all time favorite Tigers. The pride of Shreveport.
This is why I’ve been complaining in my recent post about the new CFB lately.
Gone are the days of watching La athletes from HS through LSU then NFL.
LSU will be full of California and Texas boys next year…

The problem you guys have is everyone now understands where the advantage has been for the SEC with buying players and then being able to hoard them.
I’m naive enough to believe that players weren’t getting paid some but this is bull
Our rosters were built around in state talent.
What’s really happening is they changed the rules because they know that the talent resides in the southeast.
The legends of LSU grew up tiger fans.
The only lever y'all have to pull is pay for play.
GOAT ND player was Rudy

SEC has suffered the most
Well yeah… our SEC talent is getting poached in the name of fairness.
LSU won the title in 2019 with mostly Louisiana talent supplemented with minimal out of state talent.
Similar for previous LSU / Georgia / Bama / Florida teams.
I’m not surprised that people with no talent in their base to pull from are loving this new system.
What set college football apart from the NFL was not only the school pride but also the state pride.
As an LSU fan, I take no pride in poaching from Ole Miss, Bama, Georgia, and freaking Hawaii but that’s the new reality.
We used to be able to follow our in state recruits from HS through college and through the depth chart. Now we’re waiting for the playoffs to end to see who we can take from a different team.
What fun is it beating Ole Miss with Mississippi players?
What fun is it beating Bama with Alabama players? Seems dumb to me.
I can watch the Saints if I want to watch my team with players from all over the country.
2011 Bama was better than 2020 Bama

Sure if you like to watch random football of random guys from random places representing your team.
You can just watch NFL football for that.

And I’ll keep repeating this….
LSU was an actual college team composed of mostly guys from Louisiana with minimal supplementation from out of state players. The way that it’s supposed to be.
I looked at the Indiana game stats and didn’t see one player from Indiana. And very few from the same state and region.
This matters because Indiana isn’t an Indiana team - you know what I mean.
LSU still wins over this NIL / portal hodgepodge of talent.

Well the most talented region of the country is getting poached in the name of fairness. What do you expect…

Don’t care either way…
LSU was an actual college program representative of the state of Louisiana and the SEC. Roster was mostly Louisiana boys.
Indiana is a paid collection of random guys from all over

Well for starters, it’s not college football other than the logo on the uniform.
You’re crazy if you think this resembles any close to an extracurricular activity.

Today’s CFB - Indiana GOAT?
Posted by JCPegasus on 1/10/26 at 8:15 am
I keep seeing two types of threads…
1. Many are saying today’s CFB is better because of parity. There’s a debate on if the sport is falling apart or improving.
2. The discussion about the best team ever
I didn’t watch much football this season (first time ever). I’m losing interest and I suspect others are as well while the sport is gaining new followers.
1. You probably enjoy more parity if you’re just a football fan. You care more about good competitive football than state or school pride. You don’t care about following recruits careers from HS and watching their career develop through your depth chart. You don’t care that you don’t know who is on your team year to year. This is more like the NFL type of fan.
2. I really don’t care who the media says is the GOAT team. I obviously think it’s LSU. If you look at Indiana‘s team roster, it is assembled from players all over the country. Few are from the same place, and I didn’t see any starters from Indiana. It’s not really an Indiana team if you know what I mean.
If you go look at the rosters of 2019 LSU, they are mostly Louisiana recruits supplemented with a few out of state guys. This was always the model.
Bama in 2011 was full of Alabama dudes supplemented with some out of state guys.
Why is no one talking about this?
So in modern CFB:
1. We don’t know who are teams are year to year due to turnover
2. Our teams no longer represent our state and region. In my opinion, this always set apart CFB from NFL
But we have more parity…..
I don’t see how this new game is fun unless you just like to watch random football. I’m too tribal.

main reason LSU was good in 2019 was an Ohio kid.
Yeah, definitely not Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Terrace Marshall, Clyde, Patrick Queen, Stingley, Delpit… all from La. Do I need to keep listing them?
You missed the part where I said supplement.
What made college football great was not only school pride but also state pride.
2019 LSU vs Indiana
Posted by JCPegasus on 1/9/26 at 8:31 pm
Another fun fact relevant to today’s CFB - 2019 LSU was a college team composed of mostly Louisiana dudes, the way college football should be.
Looking at the play makers in this game, I haven’t found any from Oregon or Indiana.
Few are from the same state.
LSU still beats these scrubs
They probably don’t cross the 50 on 2011 Bama

I’ve been on a rant today so I have mention it…
What makes it interesting is that it was mostly Louisiana boys supplemented with minimal out of state players. You may not like it but that’s college football. Not these one year semi-pro NIL deal roster builds.
I just checked Indiana’s playmakers and not one of them are from the same state. Similar for Oregon.
This is not the same game that I grew up with.

You learn about all of these things after enrollment
Do you believe that passion runs as deep as the kid that grew up in the rivalry?
Rivalries aside… you think the transfer player’s passion runs as deep as the kid that’s been wearing burnt orange since his parents took him home in his burnt orange onesie?
quote:
You learn about all of these things after enrollment
The guy you just landed from out of state will only be with you for 1 year unless you up his NIL.
quote:
Why would players from different places be any different?
All of the reasons that I mentioned. State pride and bragging rights.
The tribal side of the sport.
I watched Kevin Faulk at Carencro high school when I was in elementary. My first college game is when my dad took me to watch him play Mississippi State Bulldogs… I think 1996.
I watched Domanick Davis at Breaux Bridge high school and we followed his career to LSU.
We followed Jake Delhomme at USL. I have many more examples.
I can watch the Saints if I want to watch guys from all over the country.
What’s fun about beating Ole Miss with Mississippi players?
What’s fun about beating Texas with Texas players?
Do the guys you recruit from Oregon understand the Texas & ATM rivalry like kids that grow up in Texas?
Do kids from Ohio really understand the Bama Auburn rivalry?

I asked a similar question on Tiger Rant this morning.
For some, it’s the frustration of repurchasing your team every year and the constant turnover. For me it’s that AND the reduced state representation.
I don’t want Ole Miss’ running backs or O line. I don’t want Bama linebackers or D lineman. I don’t want Hawaii receivers.

Curious to know what people think. As a fan, do you prioritize winning at all cost, or is your college football fandom tied to state representation?
Following our portal pick-ups and it feels strange. We’ve always supplemented with out of state talent. Now we’re depending on receivers from California, running backs from Florida, lineman from Georgia and Alabama, safeties from California.
For me, the fun of college football was always state pride and the banter with people from other areas. My state vs. your state.
DL like Booger McFarland, Marcus Spears, Chad Lavalais, Glenn Dorsey, Marquise Hill.
Corners like Tyrann Mathieu, Tre White, Randall Gay, Jonathan Zenon.
Safeties like Laron Landry & Craig Steltz.
Linebackers like Bradie James & Devin White.
Running backs - Kevin Faulk, Domanick Davis, Alley Broussard, Justin Vincent, LaBrandon Tofield.
Wide receivers like Josh Reed, Michael Clayton, Devery Henderson, Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Malik neighbors.
Offensive line like Andrew Whitworth…
I could go on. It’s the guys you watched play HS ball in your local town.
Saban taught the country that if LSU could lock down the base, LSU would be tough to beat.
Not that my opinion matters… they say that CFB is “up and to the right”, but I only watched two games this year and I used to never miss a game. I suspect that others are just hanging on while in parallel the sport is attracting a new type of fan.
I’ll watch again next year and if it’s an exciting season I’ll probably watch them all. I’d be lying if I said that it’s as enjoyable though.
As a Saints fan, I expect them to get the best players from across the country. College football was always more passionate because it was a true state product.
Anyway… I’d rather finish top 20 with La guys than win the title with guys from California.

This is crazy to think about. I won’t recognize the team other than the logo on the helmet.

Rudy Niswanger was also an excellent starting OL from Louisiana on some excellent LSU teams.
Absolutely. Too many guys to list… got tired of typing
