John Eads is the only guy I see out there consistently in the fall. Hunt Palmer will make a few scrimmages.

He looked improved in the fall.

I think a better way for me to put it is Jay will never count on any freshman to come in and start. He will always have a starting lineup in place that doesn't include freshman. They will get backup time and if they are good enough to unseat an upperclassmen, then better for us.

We had the top freshman class last year and only Curiel started, plus a couple of Sundays from Evans. Which freshman start this year before the season is over? Paz is the only one that has a chance.

When Jay was asked about Reaves he mentioned he wanted him to add a little more power. When Reaves was asked about a highlight defensive play he made. Reaves mentioned he just wants to be consistent with the routine plays.
Jay works extremely hard at recruiting. It's very frustrating for him to put out that effort only to get outbid for a player. Jay knows he can compete for almost any player if he can offer at least an equal bid.

This is the first year under Jay that we haven't landed a top 20 portal player. We usually land multiple players.
There is no excuse for other universities to give 2 and 3 million of revenue sharing to baseball and we give $400, 000. Jay doesn't need more than other universities but he should get equal what other top universities do. If Arkansas can give their program 3 million, shouldn't Jay get close to that?

Pearson will compete with Carraway at 3B and get DH opportunities.

With the plug and play portal guys, I think the days of freshman playing a bunch are over. Curiel was an exception and he had to beat out Larson to do it. Serna should see plenty of time, Braun might get some DH opportunities and the freshman pitchers will play, Paz getting meaningful innings.
I think that is the likely rotation based on Jay's love for lefties but Moore is getting a lot of praise from players and Jay.

There is no need to put Yorke at DH. He is probably the best defensive 1B we have on the roster.

I'm hearing January 22nd for first scrimmage but I'm not positive.

I asked Jay about Fontenot because I'm really excited about him. Jay didn't seem to get too excited but did mention he should play some high leverage innings like you mentioned.
Musso seems to think Cowan will be in rotation opening weekend. Schmidt, Cooper, Noot all have higher ceilings, but who knows. It's likely going to be a tag team approach regardless of who starts.

Curiel is definitely batting number one unless he is still recovering from ankle injury. Milam could hit 2 but not likely based on the fall. Yorke and Arrambide will bat higher, Carraway lower. 2nd base is probably going to be Reaves, maybe Dardar. Dardar makes routine plays and has more power. Reaves has more potential on offense and defense. Simpson was adjusting to SEC in the fall, so we will see how fast he makes the jump. Right now I would say Harden and Pearson are DH. Harden has a real chance of bumping Stanfield at some point.
That GIF by gumbo on page 2 was pretty funny.

Cooper Williams has the lefty thing in his favor. Schmidt looked good in the fall and should make a big jump. A lot of smoke around Moore being the real deal. You know what you have in Cowan. Paz might have more potential than any pitcher on the roster. Noot is a sleeper that I like.
Harden might be the surprise player of the year. Pearson is going to play a role for sure.

Question for Project or the group. The 2026 class is huge, right now 26 players. In the portal era I believed classes would get smaller since most of the portal players are plug and play. So why the big class? Is Jay trying to be less reliant on the portal? Is it because of the money that was thrown at his last class by MLB? Something else?

Just looking at batting average I thought Yorke, Dardar and Stanfield were higher. I also thought Carraway and Simpson were lower.
Of course good contact sometimes find gloves.
Nice WHIP from Williams, Noot and Fontenot
