The other guy actually provided sources to back up his claims, and he's right. A handful of teens get top surgery to transition.

You are right. A handful of teens do get top surgery for the purposes of transitioning. That meets my qualifications.

Top surgery is a transitioning thing, yes. That 97% is cis males getting breast reductions. That's not transitioning, that's a cis male getting breast tissue removed, e.g. to treat gynecomastia. In cis males. Not trans men/women.
I'm not moving the goal posts. The study that you linked literally refers to breast reduction in cis males as gender affirming surgery. Holy shite you're dense. Just read. Literally open your eyes and read.

The study doesn't say anything about the 3%. Since you and your buddy are so adamant that this is a very real problem, why don't you explain the 3%, with sources besides X?
Read, motherfricker. I said any body part for the purposes of transitioning. A cis straight guy with gynecomastia is not a woman, and getting breast tissue removed is not transitioning. Gender affirming care includes things like hair transplants for balding men, or breast implants for women.
I can't find anything concrete about what he was claiming. "Gender affirming care" can mean a lot of things besides transition surgery.
You're not the goodest reader, are you?
97% of "gender affirming" surgeries performed on teens between 15 and 17 were breast reductions on cis males. That's not transition surgery, that's gynecomastia treatment.
That study doesn't say anything about the other miniscule percent of participants, so you'll have to try again. It should be easy since this is a very real and increasingly common thing, right?
quote:
The study found no gender-affirming surgeries performed on TGD youth ages 12 and younger in 2019. This was expected, the researchers said, as current international guidelines do not suggest any medical or surgical intervention for TGD individuals prior to puberty.
quote:
When considering use of gender-affirming breast reductions among cisgender males and TGD people, the study found that cisgender males accounted for the vast majority of breast reductions, with 80% of surgeries among adults performed on cisgender men and 97% of surgeries among minors performed on cisgender male teens.

If a toddler asked why Ms Rachel has long hair but that other person on the show has short hair, then yeah, just telling them that everyone is different and they shouldn't be treated differently because of that, is an appropriate response.
Give me one instance of a real, certified, medical professional removing any part of a child's body because they wanted to transition.

"Mothers Against"
"As a woman"
"Think of the children"
Any of these phrases should raise a red flag that the person saying them just hates fun.

Again, the only thing I've said related to talking to toddlers is "Everyone is different and that's okay." If that makes me a freak in your eyes, then I'm glad you're so butthurt about it. Keep being butthurt about it. Get more butthurt about it.

I never said they are missing any rights, in the US, now. But it wasn't long ago that gay people couldn't legally get married. I didn't say anything about bathrooms or sports. My point was that the vast majority of psychiatrists aren't going to do that because it's irresponsible and probably illegal. I definitely never said anything about chopping dicks off. You're making up scenarios in your head and getting butthurt about them.

How about just not having that conversation with a toddler? There is zero need.
I never said you should have that conversation with a toddler. It is a bit deep for them. You could leave it at "Everyone is different and that's okay"

"Gay people are people and deserve all the same rights, social and legal, as straight people" is a very far jump from "Give hormones to kids". Get off of the internet. Go talk to a psychiatrist and ask if they will prescribe hormones to kids who just aren't sure of who they are yet.

It can be both but I don't think the two issues are related. iPad kids are a problem, but if they bring out your food in a timely manner, why do you care if they look you in the eyes or whatever?

we pay well
Ballpark, what do you pay? Anything less than $20/hr is highschooler working fast food pay. Say a young person has bills of $2000/mo. That's very tough, but doable. That's $24k/yr in bills, so if you're not paying them at least double that, they are barely making enough to live.

give people a great work environment
There's no service industry job with a "great" work environment. Good, enjoyable even, sure. But not great. How much PTO do they get? Health insurance? Professional growth opportunities? Continuing education? How does management respond to complaints? How does management prioritize hours physically present vs. real productivity (butt in chair vs. actually getting stuff done)? What opportunities are there to let off stress while working?
Tip culture has screwed workers and customers. Restaurant owners are accustomed to paying servers next to nothing, and customers are accustomed to making up the difference. When you suggest just paying servers more, owners act like you're trying to take their house, and complain about having to raise the price of food. It's like they don't see slightly less profit as an option.
Tipping culture is an American thing. It's not like other countries don't have restaurants, or their restaurants are outrageously more expensive. You can make good food and pay your employees a basic wage, without having expensive food. Figure it out.

It's not bad to run 10% ethanol gas in your outboard or weedeater. It will run just fine. The issue is that your outboard or weedeater are likely to sit for long periods of time, and the ethanol absorbs moisture and gels up. If you drive semi-regularly, it's fine to put in your car. Additionally, modern fuel systems are sealed, except for a small amount of air let through a carbon filter.

You/'re reading into the way someone says one word in a sentence, and then complaining about it on the internet. Not in search of a solution, just wanting someone to validate your feelings. You're so heated about it that you need space. Over one word that someone said on TV.
Just like a woman.

Let me tell you, you don't want to live in a society that encourages things just because they are biological urges.

Of the couples I know with no kids it’s not the cost, it’s they’re too self absorbed to consider doing something that alters their lifestyle.
You're right. I want to spend a day on the lake instead of a birthday party where everyone cries. I want to go on a fun date with my wife instead of arguing about who will cook and who will help with homework. I want to try a new hobby instead of trying to get a toddler to eat a chicken nugget. That's just plain selfishness.
quote:
i went to my sister in laws small Super Bowl party this year where our kid was the only kid. There were 3 other couples in their low to mid 30’s, none with kids. To me it seems strange to not want kids, to not have kids around at this stage of life. The “comfort” of not having children, be it financial comfort, free time comfort, low stress comfort, is nothing compared to the joys of parenthood. None of that comfort is worth it.
It's all perspective. My wife and I look at our peers with kids and, despite all of them saying they are happy, every one of them are constantly complaining about how hard it is and how miserable they are. The women's bodies are permanently fricked and their careers are stunted. The men now have an additional mouth to feed with less income, but working more is not an option because then he's not pulling his weight around the house/with the kid. Their marriage falls apart and if they are lucky, they can stay roommates for 18 years when the kid moves out, and then they can try loving each other again. Neither have slept a solid 8 hours in years, never mind sleeping in on the weekend. They give the kids to the grandparents whenever they can, but then feel guilty the whole time. Saving any meaningful amount of money is difficult when it is constantly being spent on the kid's needs. Retirement is likely not an option. They stop existing as individuals and now their entire lives are dedicated to raising a human who will one day say "I hate you". Retirement homes are full of people who had kids so there is someone to take care of them later in life.
Kids are great and people who want to/can raise them properly should continue having kids. But if you put it on a pro/con list, having kids is a terrible decision. We're happy to stay the fun aunt/uncle.

re: Looking at getting my 5 ton AC unit replaced
Posted by HeckIt on 4/1/25 at 2:47 pm to FLObserver
I have zero experience in HVAC, but this is me Googling parts.
You wouldn't need a new thermostat. A 5 ton condenser (the outside unit) is $3-5k, and an air handler that includes the evaporator coil is around $2k. If the ducting needs to be replaced, that's probably $500. I would assume another $1000 in miscellaneous lines/fittings/etc. So you're a little under $10k just in the bare minimum parts. Then there's the labor of removing the old stuff and installing the new stuff. You MIGHT be able to get it all done for a little over $10k.It's probably worth spending a little more on a reputable contractor, but I would be sus of anyone quoting over $15k.

It's the damn Gen Z kids not buying houses. They shoulda been outbidding Blackrock back in 2020, dropping $20k over list in cash. But they'd all rather be poor, paying $1000/mo for a luxury apartment and $5 coffee instead of buying a $50k starter home like I did. Interest rates? Hah! I had 13% on the $20k I financed for that house! And they're out here moaning about 7% interest. Get a job loser. A real job. Not some computer tech bullspit. Put that liberal arts degree to use.
In all seriousness, it should be illegal for any firm/corporation/trust/LLC to purchase a single family home. You have to be a real individual or individuals purchasing the home for the purposes of occupying it or renting it out. If you are renting it out, you as an individual with your personal assets are tied to that building.

re: Pros and cons of $5,000 stimulus check
Posted by HeckIt on 2/24/25 at 4:59 pm to Violent Hip Swivel
Pros: You get $5000.
Cons: You pay that back in inflation. 400 million people x $5000 = $2 trillion. DOGE is not saving the US $2 trillion. At most, the fed will cut spending by a few billion and then send it to Israel because Israeli intelligence can replay (or fabricate) recordings of every member of Congress sucking off a goat.

Restaurants never returned to pre-Covid service quality. Every single restaurant is understaffed because "nobody wants to work anymore". bullshite. Nobody wants to work for $7.25 anymore, and executives/management would rather put the responsibility on patrons to pay employees more. Look at Chic Fil A. They pay way more employees than the average fast food place and they pay them more money too, and still have good food at reasonable prices. Meanwhile McDonalds is trying to offload the easy job of a person standing at the counter to take orders to a computer that can't understand the words "medium fry".
It's even worse if you have to talk to someone at a call center. They're outsourced to Indians making $4/day because Americans who speak English as a first language without a heavy accent want more than that. Why? Because the CEO could not care less about your experience as long as those savings go into his pocket.

An indoor/outdoor rated Wyze camera is $20, and you can either do your own "monitoring" or pay them a couple bucks a month to do it. They are powered by microUSB, so you can get power to/from wherever pretty easily. They record to a microSD card, or if you're technically-inclined and okay with a little jank, you can get it to record to a DVR/NVR. If you want to step up to a prosumer product, Ubiquiti cameras start under $100 and go up, but have a lot of features.
$1000 to install two cameras is robbery.
