I feel like they have really good pieces to different puzzles so they don't fit together in this puzzle. When the pieces do align it is good, but not elite.

To answer OP, I got that feeling after Sac State, but wanted to reserve judgment until SEC play. I really felt like they were turning a corner against Tenn, but losing to Bethune was when I said, ok...we are just not good. They looked out matched last weekend at Ole Miss and they are not even close to A&M sadly. I expect we get swept again this week.

I trust JJ and know that he will get it fixed moving forward. We have solid pieces, just need to find others that fit the same puzzle

Didn't hit the batter on the first pitch.....got a strike out! Maybe he is not a complete bust....

Pearson and has had some clutch hits.

True.....but he also strikes out consistently on balls down and away off the plate when batting with RISP. Especially if they are on 3rd. I called it on Friday. Said "he will swing at a high fastball above his head" and he did. Then, "now down and away to strike him out" and they did. If I see that, then surely opposing pitchers do too. He has been terrible with RISP
That's called assault....and it makes us all look bad
That is a great delivery of the ball, efficient motion with great accuracy. That is exciting to see. I feel good about the commitment...just hope he doesn't flip to someone for a bag of money. (I know the HS NIL thing in LA, and I am sure we have our own bag to sling....)
Clemson- Win
LA Tech- Win
Ole Miss- Win
Texas A&M- Loss
McNeese- Win
Kentucky- Loss (because Lane always loses to them, especially when he shouldn't)

Mississippi State- Win
Auburn- Win
Alabama- Loss
Texas- Win
Tennessee- Win
Arkansas- Win

9-3 but Kentucky loss keeps us out of the playoffs

The pitching is good enough, and improving. The lineup is good enough, and improving (despite what the rant has said all season).

The defense though…….woof. Thats what will keep them out of Omaha if it doesn’t get a lot better.

This team feels like it might be rounding a corner. Roles are being defined and they are playing better as a team.

The defense must improve, however, you can get away with a couple free bags (walks/HBP) if you can erase them with defense. That is what last year's team was so good at. The good news there is that is something you can continue to improve at over the course of the season. As the temperature heats up the ball will fly a little more as well, so the slugging will improve too, another way to mitigate mistakes on defense. However, I would love to see this team have less "swing for the fences" and more "swing for the corners and gaps" when we have runners on, especially witj RISP. The did that in the comeback vs UK and UT (Cade's heroics notwithstanding).

All that is to say, yes, the defense must improve or that will kill us in a regional/ super regional situation. I trust JJ and staff to figure it out.

You could give Simpson another look and let him try 1B (played a lot there at High Point)

Thought i heard on the broadcast that Simpson was hurt?

My take:

1st-Braun/Serna
2nd-Dardar
SS-Milam
3rd-Pearson
RF-Brown
CF-Curiel
LF-Stanfield
Catcher-Bide/serna/yamin
DH- Yamin/Braun/Bide

And then pinch hit Tanner Reaves at a strategic moment?
This team has seemed to start to turn the corner since last Sunday. 4-1 in their last 5 with 2 impressive Sunday victories. They are getting there. Another tough road series next week. GEAUX TIGERS!

Same! This might be the funniest thread on tRant in some time

But for a school like Texas to have turf is ridiculous

Agreed....but we aren't playing Texas this weekend...
For the record, I agree with you. They aren't bad. They just aren't good...yet. But i trust Jay to figure it out and teams are allowed to improve.
Next week we are down by 4 in the 3rd

"This is the WORST baseball team in the HISTORY of the SPORT!"

win the home series vs Florida.

This may be tougher than you think. FL. is 22-6 and just won the first 2 games at Ark (who is overrated IMO)
Jay is not afraid to change. Last year Shores was the Sunday starter...until he wasn't. And Suddenly it was TBD.

Schmidt is great, but when Evans is on, he is almost unhittable. Go watch last Friday night. Does he need to be more consistent? Sure! But the ceiling is the highest.

Also, pitchers have bad days...Skenes didn't even get through 1 inning on Opening day. Evans will be fine and when Moore is back it is actually the right setup. It gives you the greatest advantage on Saturday and Sunday.

That sucks! He seems like such a good guy too, just can't catch a break!
Called it when they said he was PH....he always strikes out in these moments

What a shock

REAVES KOs to end the game...he shouldn't see the field the rest of the year. Why do we always pinch hit Reaves?
