Yesterday at Rouse’s and Lowe’s there were certain empty shelves. While I think the panic is overblown, I don’t think it’s isolated to Walmart.
I got a 5 day from Nola to Cozumel and Progreso, on Carnival, May 4-9, single occupancy, for about $275 plus port fees! Your deal is a bit cheaper but I live in Nola. My school and work are both virtual and that’s after the 4-6 week window of shutdowns they announced today. ¯\_(?)_/¯ gotta find the silver lining!

I’ve ridden two years and haven’t heard of this. Along with some kind of sensor system that would alert the driver when people were too close, this could lead to crowd-sourced compliance.

It may be helpful to clarify for the board what your goal is in this decision.

If you’re asking simply about savings related to interest expenses, you can calculate how much interest will accrue on each separate debt in the time frame until it’s paid off.

If you can comfortably pay off the promo balances before the high interest rates kick in, with the money that you previously used to pay the truck note, that seems like it would be ideal.

If you pay off the credit card debts and continue paying your truck note, you may pay marginally more in interest than paying it off. That depends on long has the truck been financed and how long is left on the note.

On the flip side, if you pay off the truck and can’t pay the full promo balances by the time the interest kicks in, the higher interest rates are going to bite you long term. Also, not sure of the details of your promo plans, but I understand some of them tack on all the interest retroactively if you don’t pay them off by the end of the promo period. That’s something to consider, too.

There’s an argument in all this to revive the flambeaux. That’s how all these years went by without people running up to the floats. When a man strolls by with a flaming torch, you step the frick back.

Man just a few days ago when I was trying to explain how a tragedy can ruin a rider’s parade, I caught hell. It’s amazing how the tune changed when it’s Endymion that gets cancelled halfway through.

Travers Mackel also reported that the city said the REASON they can’t barricade the whole route is that there are three routes running today: UPT, NOMTOC, and Endymion. Which we all know is bullshite, but supports the move UPT

All of them. All straight runs. Three sides. The fourth side has a bigass raised metal carport thing.

Endymion’s expenses exceed their revenue and it’s a part-time gig for their officers. IJS it’s not an apples-to-apples comparison.

last Nyx fiasco

Wrong. The last Nyx fiasco was the cancelled summer parade not the embezzling.

Look, we all know the lady has a history. But she built a super krewe from the ground up and against the powers that be. She’s opened it up to everyone who want$ to ride and pay the dues to do it. We like it and the people like purses.

Nyx is a non-profit and I’m pretty sure it is her full time job. Not a bad gig, if you can get it. U jelly?

able to keep enough stuff

I was not able to get rid of everything despite my best effort and had to carry 3 large sacks of throws off. Some floats farther back than mine (34) didn’t even get started. Other folks abandoned their throws on the floats at the end of the night and can’t take advantage of the offer.
Thanks! There was and still is for some people but it makes me feel a bit better. I have also started a conversation about how we can support the relatives of the deceased lady. She made a deadly error in judgment but at the end of the day she is still a human who was out there enjoying Mardi Gras.
It’s a fair offer IMO. And since they covered the mask and wig part, I’m going to do it. It’s not the same but I think it’s a sincere substitute.
Rude. They would only have to offer something to half the people. The first half rode.

You’re mistaken about our krewe culture. It’s not ideal but it’s not holding a grudge to choose to leave an association if you’re unhappy with the management.
They’re offering us to ride in Pandora in JP on Sunday. Masks and wigs provided for those of us who left ours. #HailNyx!

Gutters: DIY or Nah?

Posted by mmiller52 on 2/20/20 at 3:54 pm
We closed on our first home in late October. We’ve discovered that the lack of gutters leads to some water retention in areas of our yard that also don’t drain quickly. We are considering rain barrels to address the water retention (and water the plants). But, we learned that we need gutters to feed the rain barrels. So, we’ve decided we probably need to install gutters.

We’re on a budget (read: poor!). My partner is a mechanic and knows his way around a toolbox. We are slowly gaining confidence around our shared ability to do home maintenance (caulking, AC vent clean out, etc.) but we haven’t done any major projects.

H&G board, my questions for you are these:

• what’s the feasibility of DIY gutters? Is gutter installation something that folks of average intelligence and skill can do? Our philosophy so far has been to balance the cost of a potential screw up against the cost savings and sense of ownership that DIY gives. Can we do serious and costly damage if we mess up the gutters?

• what’s the cost of pro installation? DIY will still require us to purchase a not insignificant amount of materials. We’ll even need a ladder. If it’s only going to save us a marginal amount to DIY, I might lean more toward professional. For context: home is on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish. I would appreciate any referrals for professional installation services as well.
I second all of the advice about the yard and maintenance DETAILS.

We closed in October on our first home. In our excitement (and desire to just. get. finished.) we overlooked the unkempt yard. In the 4 months since we’ve been here, I’ve learned about scale on sago palms and torpedograss. I’m learning how difficult (impossible?) eradication of torpedograss can be. The yard also has shitty drainage. It didn’t drive by in the rain but I wish we had.

Same on inside details. We had an ASHI inspector and I think he did a quite thorough job. I knew the home had some warts and basically wanted to be well informed about what we were getting into. But, in our master bedroom, not one of us opened the left side of hinged two panel closet doors. When I moved in and tried to open that side of the closet, I realized the jackarse seller had SCREWED the inside part of the door to the track. The track is hopelessly damaged and needless to say the doors had to be entirely removed. We now have an open air closet ... or whatever you call it when the damn thing doesn’t have doors.

To balance all this, I would say that the details might not be negotiation deal breakers or money savers, but at least you know what you’ve got on your hands.

re: Pool legal question

Posted by mmiller52 on 2/20/20 at 2:37 pm to
You should make sure the fence and gates are in good working order. Keep the pool locked. No trespassing signs are probably unnecessary unless you later realize that people are trespassing.

Basically, it needs to be clear to anyone who walks up that the pool is not open admission.

For children, a pool can be what the law calls an “attractive nuisance,” which can make the homeowner responsible for trespassers’ injuries. Don’t let neighborhood children use your pool without your presence. If that means adding sensor or video surveillance, consider those options.

To start I would wait and see if there are any trespassing issues.

You kind of showed yourself. The info you quote makes distinctions between invitees, to whom a duty of care is owed, and trespassers, to whom no such duty is owed.

By not locking your gates, there’s an argument that you’re inviting the teenagers to use your pool. Especially if they come to regularly use the pool because they learn it’s not locked.

I like the sensor idea but that doesn’t eliminate the need to lock the gate. I have a Ring video doorbell but I still lock my doors. A pool security system using both would be ideal.
