For the first time ever, I'm trying drumsticks in a small four quart slow cooker.

They are packed in tight and I have them on low.

Should I rotate them from top to bottom every hour or two or should I just leave things alone?

Curt Gowdy is missed.

Some of you youngsters missed out on one of the best of all-time.

they (the Pirates) totally lucked out in game 7.

I wouldn't go that far. The Pirates were a very scrappy team, fought hard, and deserved to win.

I do think the Yankees were the better team.

They came back the next year under Ralph Houk and turned into a steamroller.
That 7th game took so many twists and turns. What a game!

Mantle barely avoided that tag out by Rocky Nelson at 1b in the top of the 9th, which would have ended the WS.

If Mantle gets tagged out, then Hal Smith would have been the historical hero of the game instead of Maz.

Smith hit the huge two out, three run homer in the bottom of the 8th to put the Pirates ahead 9-7.

Forbes Field was really rocking after that Smith homer.

I just did a little research. With Maz now gone, I believe Bob Skinner and Vernon Law might be the only Pirates still living from that 1960 team. Hopefully there might be others. Elroy Face died at age 97 just a few years ago.
Absolutely agree that Danny Murtaugh belongs in the HOF.

Two memorable WS titles with underdog teams and multiple divisional titles should have done it. In a way, that '71 comeback win against that mighty Orioles team (three 20 game winners!) was as compelling as the win against the Yankees

There was a pretty big push to get Murtaugh in the HOF sometime back, maybe 6-7 years ago. Letters from former players like Dave Cash and Gene Alley were written, but to no avail.

p.s. You may well have a valid point about Ditmar, but I think many of the Yankee players felt that it should have been Ford in game 1, which would have put him in line to pitch in game 7. Not entirely sure, but I believe Mantle felt that way.

Spieth was lucky as hell. Could easily have just one major.

DJ flat out gifted him the U.S. Open. Kuchar really was more deserving to win the Open at Birkdale.
Big Pirates fan here, I loved that '60 WS.

The Yankees won their 3 games by scores of 16-3, 12-0. and 10-0.

The Pirates won their 4 games by scores of 6-4, 3-2, 5-2, and 10-9.

It made it even sweeter that the Yankees were clearly the better team on paper, but the "Battling Bucs" took it down!

Mantle was in tears after the 7th game, Maris was mad as hell, and Whitey Ford wouldn't speak to Stengel for not starting him in game 1. The Pirates couldn't get anything off Ford in that series.

I spoke to Mantle at a banquet in the late '80s. He was still pissed about that '60 Series, lol.

RIP, Maz. You were great.

That 7th game homer Maz hit was not a cheapie. It cleared the wall by a good 10 feet just to the left of the 406' mark.

I saw him hit one at Busch Stadium in St. Louis that went well over 400 feet.

He was never a big slugger, but he loved him some high fastballs.

One of the truly great defensive players ever. He could really turn a double play.

RIP Maz. Great gentleman.
Jack Maxey, who used to have a prominent role on the War Room, has a very low opinion of Bannon.

I think Rebel fans are going to be disappointed next season.

It's still women's basketball.

Yep, you're right.

The only women's basketball game I've ever watched was the championship game against Iowa a few years ago.

I always thought he seemed satisfied about just getting to the Final Four instead of focusing on winning it.

I remember he brought in an old coaching mentor to sit close to him in that UCLA game so that they could "enjoy" the experience. Frick that, focus on winning the damn game.

He also seemed passive to me when UCLA began to take control. At least call some damn timeouts. Brown did the same thing when Indiana started off hot in the 2nd half in that 1981 semi-final. Use a timeout when the other side is building momentum!

This was long ago and maybe I'm mixed up on some things, but I was so disappointed that LSU did not really seem to challenge in that semi-final game.

p.s. I do think he was a good coach and felt sorry for him when LSU fired him. I remember how broken up he was at the press conference. He took that firing hard.

Attn OP,

The answer to your question is hell fricking no.
The guy can coach and he could get the ship pointed in the right direction.
LSU goes 10-2, builds late momentum and runs the table in the playoffs.

The rest of the SEC implodes, with ground zero being Oxford MS.

What an incredible risk this kid is taking.

Absolutely agree!

Hope the kid is being advised by someone who is only concerned what is best for him.

LSU fan here, but I was so disappointed when Rupp's Runts lost the 1966 NCAA championship game. I wish they would have had a couple of days rest after beating Duke in the semi-final, but back then they played the semi-finals and finals on consecutive nights. (I think)

I was a small kid, but well remember Louie Dampier and Pat Riley when UK came to BR in '67. Dampier was deadly from the corner.

Got Coach Rupp's autograph after the game. Hope I still have it somewhere.

He was a legend. The Baron of the Bluegrass.
Is this finally going to be the year?
