It’s not like they are giving these out to everyone. It’s just for the first 500 students. They may actually have some leftover

Men's basketball fans need to understand that the Athletic department is run as a whole. In any business there are departments/divisions or even products that are operating or sold at a loss.

Those are the departments that get immediately downsized when new management takes over.

There are intangibles like fan and alumni engagement, student recruiting and general goodwill that come into play along with Title IX implications.

There’s nothing in Title IX that says the women’s basketball coaching staff has to make over $5MM/year.
A couple that come close besides 1004 LSU.

-1983 Iowa had 6 FBS head coaches
Hayden Fry
Bill Snyder
Kirk Ferentz
Barry Alvarez
Dan McCarney
Bob Stoops

-2000 Miami had 5 FBS head coaches and 1 NFL head coach
Butch Davis
Larry Coker
Greg Schiano
Chuck Pagano
Curtis Johnson
Mario Cristobal

The scheme was alleged to be far-ranging, including players on DePaul, Nicholls State, Tulane, La Salle, Fordham, Northwestern State, Saint Louis, Buffalo, Robert Morris, Southern Miss, North Carolina A&T, Coppin State, University of New Orleans, Abilene Christian, Alabama State and Kennesaw State.

So it’s a real possibility that some of Matt McMahon’s non-conference wins that are boosting his overall record were because players on the other team weren’t trying.
When Blakeney was here he’d be scoring 25 ppg, but have random games where he’d miss almost all of his shots.

Point shaving in China probably gets you the death penalty.

This will never happen because these people work all the other sports and not just men's basketball. There is nothing wrong with the video board production. Those guys are actually very good at what they do, from the cameramen to the people directing them from the studio.

Multiple times over the past few years during men’s bball games they don’t even have the stats section show up on the video board until midway through the 1st half.

A few times the PMAC staff forgot to turn some of the arena lights back on after a timeout.

4 however, This is the least of their problems. Nothing wrong with the court

All part of creating an entirely new identity of the program.
I posted this a year ago, but it is needed even more now

Every aspect of the men’s basketball program needs a complete overhaul at the end of the season. LSU basketball has no culture and everything about it feels bland, boring & pathetic right now.

1. Matt McMahon needs to be fired. Nice guy, but his coaching over the past 4 seasons is unacceptable and total apathy has set in for even the most die hard fans. If we rack up more losses this week and next, fire him by the end if January.

2. Everyone on the coaching staff needs to be fired. There is not a single person on the coaching staff doing what they need to do. All have to go. No exceptions.

3. Get plans for a new arena finalized and construction started, but do it right. The new coach can add whatever smaller details once hired if it is not too late.

4. Have a new court and new uniforms for next year. We’ve worn the same geaux font uniforms with few changes for 20 years. We’ve had pretty much the same court for almost as long. Most of those years have been terrible. You can’t change the culture if everything still looks the same.

5. Replace any person associated with marketing, promotions, graphic design, merchandising, video board operation, etc... Every one of them is mediocre to terrible at what they do. Whoever is in charge of working with Nike to put out basketball apparel can be fired as well. Anyone associated with the day to day operations of the program needs to be gone, with two exceptions.

6. The only two people associated with the basketball program who should be retained are John Brady and Kent Lowe. Brady is an excellent radio commentator. Kent Lowe, by all accounts is a great SID.

The entire coaching staff needs to be fired by the end of the SEC tournament. LSU must reach out to agents immediately, whether McMahon is still on staff or not.

Support staff need to be replaced by the end of June.

LSU basketball has been left behind in the SEC and nothing will change unless everything changes. The good thing is that the right coach can turn it around almost immidiatrly.
You have to move your pivot foot a lot more than a couple inches to have a ref call walking on that play.
People forget that Johnny Jones took over for Trent Johnson who absolutely destroyed the program and made it respectable again. Then Ben Simmons did his thing and Jones could not recover.

Jones SEC finishes:
2012-13 - 8th
2013-14 - 6th
2014-15 - 3rd
2015-16 - 3rd
2016-17 - 13th

Matt McMahon is Curley Hallman level bad.
Sutton was a couple feet away from the line, wildly jumping up and down guarding the inbounder instead of right on the line going straight up and down to make the pass harder. He may as well not have even been there.

Robert Miller is in front of the guy and for some reason jumps to catch the ball instead of batting it down. A horribly mistimed jump at that.

Since we had no defenders in the lane, the guy McKinnon was “guarding” would have had an uncontested layup had the pass been just a little longer.

Our entire staff sucks.
Our guy guarding the inbounder was too far off the line and our guy guarding the guy catching it was too stupid just to knock it down.

We got pretty lucky the play before when Tamba saved in under the UK goal.

Just a poorly coached team all around.

the caliber of Jalen Reed

I’m more interested in what caliber of player is Jalen Reed. He’s been hurt the past two years. Prior to that he wasn’t exactly playing like a 4 star recruit should play.
Oddly enough, as bad as we are right now, Kentucky is kind of a mess too. It wouldn’t surprise me if we pulled of an upset tonight. It also wouldn’t surprise me if we lost by 15+ though.

It won’t be a typical Kentucky game crowd. I’ve never seen so many good seats for sale on SeatGeek all below face value.

If Kentucky decides to press we have no shot at winning.

There are a lot of things McMahon does well on the X and O side

LSU fans have always held the notion that if you don’t promote the program and want nothing to do with fans, then you must be a basketball genius.

They’ve also always thought that if you’re a big promoter of the program, then you can’t actually coach.

Sometimes you actually get the combination of guys who do nothing to promote the program and also have no clue how to coach. See Trent Johnson and Matt McMahon.
There’s probably only 2 or 3 posters on here who will defend everything McMahon does and they only do it to antagonize other posters. The sad reality is that most LSU fans simply don’t care about LSU basketball anymore and you can’t blame them for feeling that way.

The Mc(fill in the blank) stuff is pretty stupid though.
Will Wade - he’s at better program now, but you have to ask. With Woodward gone and Rousse in as president, who knows.

Josh Schertz - he will get a bigtime job soon

Since LSU has no issue spending money anymore, throw a bunch of money at Ben McCollum and see what happens.

Advanced stats that are used by the committee had us as a tournament squad before the Dedan injury

Advanced metrics don’t mean a thing in December unless you’ve played real competition.
quote:

it’s clearly a tournament squad

Based on what? Blowing out a bunch of terrible teams in non-conference play? We have 1 good win on the season so far.
It makes no sense why they won’t say what the injury. Calling him day to day when he really has no shot playing doesn’t really affect how the other team prepares. The other team will always prepare to play a team with competent PG.

I will say this though, any coach who doesn’t press LSU nonstop when Thomas doesn’t play has no business coaching college basketball.

The kids only good enough for Kent State and Akron and Troy will still have room. The limits were raised to 105 from 85, so that's 2,120 additional scholarships. Those 25-30 year olds won't be playing at Troy and Akron.

What this is going to do is what it was always going to do...turn the smaller programs into feeder schools

But as the big conferences keep expanding they are shifting more and more towards only playing other big conference schools.

The smaller schools will eventually start cutting football since it will be way too costly and they won’t get rent-a-win checks anymore.

College football is a complete shitshow right now and it’s only going to get worse.
