re: How bad will our weather be Saturday
Posted by TigerBaitLSU on 9/11/08 at 12:22 pm to lsu1percent
Every single time NOAA updates this thing moves more and more east.
Yesterday when they announced the game would be on the projected track of the storm was a lot different then it is today.
Keep an eye on this storm guys. If their projections continue to move east this game might still be in jeapordy.
LINK
Look at the 7 AM Sat. and 7 AM Sunday points. The 7 PM Saturday kick off makes it easy to estimate where the eyewall will be at that time.
If that thing shifts much more to the east, the weather may be severe enough that the officals stop play.

re: Playing In Dallas Huge Opportunity......

I'm not sure if Dallas is even on top of the list anymore...
If Ike holds its current course, we are looking at a possible mandatory evacuation of Houston(i.e. contraflow interstates and highways, zero hotel availabilities, etc.). For the same reasons App St got moved to 10 AM, the more that storm aims at Houston, the less likely Dallas will be the location for this game, should they move it.

That is a very nice cake BeauxTieTiger.
As far as a replica of Tiger Stadium goes, it is definately a one upper.
Mine was free though.

Thanks.
Unfortunately I don't believe the lights were edible.
Also I forgot to mention, I married a woman from Houston, and her sister is a die-hard Longhorns fan. The fact that she made this for me and is not even an LSU fan made it that much more unbelievable.

If this has been posted before I apologize, but I just stumbled upon this yesterday. Its a great site to bookmark and monitor throughout the season, and see just how stupid some of the AP writers really are.
You can also rate their picks, which is a nice feature imo.
Some idiot in San Diego actually has us at 18th, his voting priviledges should be revoked.

My Groom Cake
Posted by TigerBaitLSU on 8/18/08 at 11:34 am
Got married a couple weeks ago.
My fiance asked me months ago what I wanted for a groom cake, I said something with an LSU theme. I was amazed when I walked into the reception and saw this.
Sure Ive seen Tiger Stadium cakes before at some of my friend's weddings, but what makes this one so special is that it was not professionally done, it was made by my new sister-in-law, so we didnt have to pay some professional hundreds of dollars. She did it for us for free. When she offered to make my groom cake I was expecting a sheet cake with LSU written on it. She pulled out all the stops though and impressed the hell out of me with this.
It has the score of the BCS game on the scoreboard. You can't see it in the pic but it also has a feild with goalposts.
Chocolate cake with buttercream icing, mmmmmmmmm.
Geaux Tigers!!!!

That UF-Michigan clip is deceiving. The Michigan guy is about 10 yards farther down field when he goes from his natural rotation from his position and shifts into full gear and Harvin has already been near full speed for 15-20 yards and made 3 cuts.
I'm in complete agreement here, this video is deceiving.
I'm not discreditting the Michigan player here, it was a great tackle. He obviously has great speed. But take a closer look at this video.
Harvin starts out 6 yards behind his own line of scrimmage, the Michigan player is far enough downfield that he isnt in view.
He first comes into view at about the 4 second mark, on the UF 40, about 7 yards further downfield than Harvin. And the progression continues as follows:
Harvin: 45
UM safety: 48
Harvin: 50
UM safety: UM 47
Harvin: UM 41
UM safety: UM 40
Harvin: UM 36
UM safety: UM 35
The both cross the 30 at the same time.
By the time the UM player is to the sideline, Harvin has about a yard and a half on him, and the guy makes a great reaching tackle.
At no point does the Michigan kid chase Harvin down from behind. Harvin has also been sprinting for nearly 20 yards longer than the defender and is carrying a ball.
Great tackle either way, but this video shows a fast defender execute a textbook perfect cutoff angle more than it shows him being a great deal faster.
Edit: looks like I took too long to write my post and MeauxJeaux beat me to the punch
re: App St vs Michigan
Posted by TigerBaitLSU on 8/7/08 at 9:17 am to FrisceauxTiger
Last year App St. shocked the world, as they were outmanned at every single position. Michigan was already thinking about the next week, when they would get a Pac-10/Big 10 match up versus Oregon.
They didn't take App St. seriously, they were already thinking ahead to Oregon, and paid the price.
This isn't just some middle of the road program either, this is the Michigan Wolverines. We're talking about a team full of kids who turned down dozens of scholarships to Div. 1-A schools only to ride the pine for the Wolverines. The complete flipside to that is App. St. The best players on their entire team would be 2nd and 3rd string at Michigan, if they could even make the squad.
They caught Michigan napping, if they played today Michigan would win by 40+. Michigan's demise last year put the target on App. St. They will not be able to sneak up on a sleeping giant again for quite some time. LSU will pound the shite out of them.

re: funniest thing you've ever seen tailgaitin' at tiger stadium

I believe it was homecoming '04.
My brother got completely hammered before the game. He had no intention of getting so drunk but he was busting his arse at LSU med school and hadn't had any fun time for himself in months. So he ended up getting way more intoxicated than he had intended.
About 5 minutes after kick off, I went to the restroom. When I got back to my seat, my brother was gone. After several minutes when he had not returned, I started to get worried, because I knew he was really drunk. After several attempts to call him (I can never get a signal in Tiger Stadium) I went looking for him.
I started to grow more anxious when I couldn't find him anywhere. So I went back to our tailgate area. I spent the rest of the game walking around campus, visiting areas where he could have been. My brother has a history of doing really stupid shite when he gets that drunk, so I was even more worried when he was still missing at midnight, hours after the game had ended.
I had even called the local emergency rooms and jails looking for him. I'm his big brother by 2 years and have always worried about him.
About 1:30 a cop car pulls up to my truck, where I am standing, sick to my stomach with worry. My brother is riding in the passenger seat next to the cop. My brother opens the door, staggers out, and gets in my truck without saying a word. The cop drives away laughing his arse off, but not before telling me they found him asleep in a port-a-potty, where apparently he had spent the last 6+ hours.
I have made fun of my brother about that for years, and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
He's a doctor now, doesn't that make you all feel better?

Good ones guys.
Don't have one to add myself, but I think this is particularly funny because the province of Georgia was originally chartered by King George II as a place to send criminals to help alleviate the British Empire's overcrowded prison problem.
UGA- proof that after hundreds of years, the apple still does not fall far from the tree.

If any it would have to be Mississippi State.
Mississipi has always been a state that is loaded with football talent. On a per capita basis it has more players in the NFL then any other state in the Union.(or at least it did a couple years ago)
As recently as 15 years ago(before the internet shrunk the world) location and proximity to home was so much more important than it is today. If you go even further back(before ESPN and cable TV), there was only a couple teams that would get television coverage. Kids stayed closer to home when choosing their schools, and schools like Missippi State could capatilize on having such a rich pool of talent in their backyard.
In today's college football, with literally dozens of televised games each week, more TV exposure, more radio exposure(sports radio was a novelty just a few short years ago), internet exposure, etc. A 5 star athlete with dreams of the NFL is going to choose a higher profile school.
Back in the day, the local talent in Mississippi alone was enough to keep the Bulldogs competitive. These days, the super stars are playing elsewhere.
In 1978, a 5 star recruit living in Mississippi would get a phone call or a visit from Miami. What did he know about Miami? That it was a big town a long way with a home with a beach. What did he know about LSU and Baton Rouge? That LSU was a school that his parent's and parent's friends didn't like. The same kid in 2008 knows that Miami is a flashy playground, with beaches filled with gorgeous women (courtesy of Miami Vice and CSI Miami etc.) and that playing there will get him tons of exposure(EPSN, sports radio, internet). And that going to a school like LSU will also net him exposure, and he will get to play in front of 92,000+.
20 years ago, 9 times out of 10 that kid goes to Mississippi State. Today 9 times out of 10 he goes somewhere else to play.
While the surge of college football popularity has been great for the game and for programs like ours, it has had an equally negative impact on schools like Mississippi State. How can you convince a star to play in Starkville when all the promise and flashiness of the big boy comes calling?
I feel for Mississippi State because I would be surprised if they were ever truly consitently competitive again. Sure, they may have a good season now and again, but their fans(who are good people) will have to be satisfied with mediocrity, and may be forced to do so for the rest of their lives. They at least use to be competitive.
