Finally someone gets it. Trying to better ourselves and improve our brand has NOTHING to do with LSU, until they interfere with our efforts. It's been on full display here that everything always comes back to "THEY JUST WANT TO BE THE FLAGSHIP."
The whole point of the name change was to work to better ourselves and raise our prominence on a national level. There was never an intention to take anything away from other schools, but the backroom politics and irrational fear that we were doing it to destroy other schools is, as you said, the reason our state is in such terrible shape.
Just because we want to be a nationally respected university has NOTHING do to with LSU and everything to do about US.

You're absolutely right. With all of the backwards thinking in this state (on full display in this thread), including LSU spending 400k in 1984 to fight our name change, no public school in the state will ever be on par with Texas or UNC. So I guess we should just give up trying to better our institution altogether.

I know for a FACT representatives from LSU were actively engaged with ESPN folks insisting that they do not refer to us as Louisiana for MANY years. That even led to the score bug being changed MID GAME. It was even mentioned directly by Harold Reynolds ON AIR during our appearance in the CWS.
So yeah, having ESPN finally support the change was a major win in our branding efforts.

By the way, LSU has the second lowest endowment in the entire SEC. But "iTs YeW eLL eLL" is the biggest concern these days.

Tech fans have been screaming for years that we are not a rival. All of a sudden, we're a rival when it's convenient for you. Yes, we love to hate you because of your smugness, but we also don't forget that when you were in the SBC and we were trying to build a football conference, you not only left for the WAC, you also tried to lure UNT with you in order to kill any potential of moving forward with football in the SBC. You wanted your separation. You now have your separation. It's just not quite the separation you envisioned.
