re: Beware driving through Evangeline Parish
Posted by hanniballa on 1/10/22 at 9:14 am to Jim Rockford
They got me driving through from Thibadaux to Missouri one afternoon. Went 10-15mph over for 10 hours that day, and many many other days along these routes N/S from MO to LA, and the only place I ever have had a problem is with Evangeline Sheriff's Office on a US interstate.

Two cops, parked behind the barrier over a bayou or ditch bridge on the northbound lane. These dumbasses hide behind the railing on a slight rightward curve, and then a fat white guy pops out actually INTO the right northbound lane and grabs a quick laser speed reading. (They have to be stationary, facing you head-on, and typically not even in their car in order to get a good laser reading.) They then wave drivers over. The black officer gets to write the ticket, and I had a sense he knows it's extortion.
Some other commenters are stating to buy a radar detector - these guys are pros and are using laser, not radar. So, unless you spend $30000 on a laser scrambler, you're not going to avoid.
I'll drop another line - in the US, the further south you go, the more malignant the policing is, hard stop. I've paid a $200 fine before - $175 plus $25 court costs - but never, ever have I had an almost $300 ticket. It's $125 for speeding, and $165 for DA-set "court fees". That's literally extortion, in aid to keeping a very, very, very shitty little parish afloat.
I guess the public service the SO are doing on the interstate is getting people - anyone, anywhow - to even stop in their crap little parish.
