re: Don't Mess Around And Use Your Phone At The Masters
Posted by OntarioTiger on 4/11/26 at 11:17 am to tadman
Have a good friend who was at the masters w his dad, dad has a cardiac incident and there is a full suite of volunteer cardiologist who look after pops. Dad needs to go to hospital for observation and is ok. No charge from masters or hospital its taken care of.
Turns out masters have a full ER staff of volunteers to take care of medical issues for patrons, probably some the best care any where. As i understand it the docs and nurses who volunteer also get tickets to watch.

re: Is Moose good eating?

Moose is great especially early in season when they are eating aquatic plants. Late season when they transition to cedar or spruce not so much, aka spruce moose, like chewing a pine needle

Had grilled guinea pig in Peru, was tasty and pretty common. More like pork.

re: The gun that got away
Posted by OntarioTiger on 3/16/26 at 1:25 pm to Koolazzkat
When i worked at elleshue in the 90s and the campus gun ban came into effect a field group had to dispose of a weatherby rifle w a Nixon scope, large caliber 300 win mag or similar. They offered it to me since I hunted and my dumb arse said no, no charge for it .... it was used as polar bear protection for arctic work
re: Maple Syrup
Posted by OntarioTiger on 3/10/26 at 8:14 pm to calcotron
When my dad was alive he made 10-20 gal per yr and would typically win awards for it at local fairs. Lots of work but incredibly tasty. I like a little darker syrup w more taste than the lighter versions. He had an evaporator pan over two gas burners and would drip sap in to keep his evaporation rate consistent. He had his own gas well so gas was not an issue. I know the baws like cane syrup but I found it too dark. He collected it in buckets so it was work but it was rewarding. I would give anything to do it again for a day w him.
re: What was your first real job in high school? Like where you had to clock in, etc.
Posted by OntarioTiger on 3/9/26 at 12:53 pm to LSU_postman
For harvesting tobacco it was piece work and pay was $50-125 per day which was 8-15x minimum wage. Crazy money for grade - HS at the time. My mom made me save more than half so paid for cawlidge car etc. There isn't similar money in the industry today, now hiring offshore help rather than locals and its more mechanized too.

High school, how about grade school at 12, worked on tobacco farm harvesting the crop. Did that for 6 summers and paid for cawlidge before I stepped on campus. Crazy money back in the day
re: Rem 11-87
Posted by OntarioTiger on 2/27/26 at 11:28 am to 257WBY
I had an early 90s 1187 and the bolt did not lock in the receiver, the gun fired and as you can imagine there was a "catastrophic failure".... Remember did replace the gun and i found out this was an issue w 1187s. I sold the replacement and have moved onto browning and Beretta. Would i buy one and shoot it regularly, no.
re: Yes, another 10/22 set up
Posted by OntarioTiger on 2/14/26 at 12:13 pm to bbvdd
Not the ultimate set up but its sure a tack driver. Its a bergera w a carbon barrel, composite stock, has a nice crisp trigger. Went overboard on a good vortex scope. At 50 yds i can cloverleaf rounds. It does like certain ammo so whatever you build try a few different brands to see what it likes. Didn't break the bank and is fun to shoot

re: Considering a Beretta Silver Pigeon I 20 gauge...

Great gun, just make sure it fits you. I had a 20 ga onyx that didn't fit me well, not the guns fault. Browning ou fit me better
re: Benelli or Beretta?
Posted by OntarioTiger on 1/9/26 at 9:10 am to Tigerpaw123
I'm a beretta guy, I primarily shoot a 25 yr old 391 rather than a400.extrema. I only shoot 3" shells. The beretta just fits me better. I tried to shoot a m2 a cpl of yrs back but just couldn't get comfortable with it even changing shims etc. Both are great find the one you like and fits you. Or as you say get them both ;)
