re: How old were you in 1998?

Wow. Thats a very long time ago. Who was the adidas team?
Auburn 2010-2013 was the following:

2010: National Champs
2011: 7-6
2012: 3-9
2013: National Runner-Ups

Hard to say that wasn’t the best turnaround…. How many other programs went 3-9 and then played for a title the next season?
I’d love to see Carson Beck win another title. Classy kid.
The Vols fell out of the AP poll for the first time since 2022.

Very impressive run, Vols. This streak was the 2nd longest active streak in the country behind only Houston.

This stands as the 3rd longest streak in SEC history behind Kentucky’s 164-week run (1991-2000) and Florida’s 94-week run (1999-2004).

Auburn players specialize in losing.

Tua would have broken both ankles.
Probably a mixed bag.

Having one commissioner that can oversee scheduling, playoff format, tv deals, postseason deals, etc would be good.

Losing much of the history and regional connectivity of programs would be very difficult to replace.

If we could have one super conference with multiple regions that protected historical rivalries I think it would probably be a net benefit.

NFL playoffs would dwarf ratings hugely

NFL would be larger only because it draws massive viewers from giant markets like NYC and LA, but those markets don’t watch CFB games… so why does it matter?

USA’s largest TV markets:

1. New York
2. Los Angeles
3. Chicago
4. Dallas
5. Philadelphia
6. Houston
7. Atlanta
8. Washington DC
9. Boston
10. San Francisco

Outside of Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta, the CFB Playoff is barely drawing a rating in any of those other 7 largest markets. Whether they aired on Thursday night or Saturday head to head with the NFL, it probably doesn’t matter all that much. The number of viewers would be small either way.

In Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta… and certainly in the diehard CFB markets like Birmingham, Columbus, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, etc. the majority of CFB viewers are still going to choose the college game regardless if the NFL playoffs are going on.

The loyal CFB viewer who turns on the the big games all season long… we’re talking 10-30 million people… they are going to choose CFB every time unless it’s their local NFL team playing and the CFB playoff team doesn’t involve their team.

Not airing games head to head is more about protecting the NFL ratings than it is about the CFB viewership.

There are millions of viewers in Birmingham, Columbus, OKC, etc who turn the TV on to watch an NFL game simply because it’s on… not really caring much about what they are watching. Those fans are gone from the NFL if a CFB playoff game is on at the same time.

Because they don't want to go up against the NFL.

CFB decision makers need to grow a pair and tell the networks that if they want to air our playoff / championship, they are going to do it on our schedule.

First round games were fine with one game on NYE and three games on NYD… and ratings were great.

Semifinals should have both been played on Saturday, 1/10. One in the afternoon slot and one in the evening slot.

Championship should be Saturday night, 1/17.

If it goes head-to-head with the NFL, so be it. NFL playoff games would draw more viewers, but I think executives would be surprised at how many CFB fans would choose the CFB games. I bet NFL would win 60-40 or something like that.

The back and forth on Twitter between Auburn and Bama fans is 100x more than what football produces. It’s really become quite a hate-fest between the two fanbases.

The shot selection to start the 2H has been abysmal. What are we even doing?

Yeah I don’t understand why Muschalek is being given so many minutes.
It’s Ole Miss. The largest media market in the state of Mississippi, Jackson, ranks 99th largest in the country and therefore isn’t a metered market.

Miami is a relatively small private school that has a mostly disengaged alumni when it comes to athletics.

Pair these two up to play on a work night in January and it’s not exactly a recipe for success.

It’s worse now actually..

Rank for Appearances in the AP Top 25 for Georgia Tech by decade:

1940s: 10th nationally (still in SEC)
1950s: 5th nationally (still in SEC)
1960s: 21st nationally (left after ‘63)
1970s: 46th nationally
1980s: 56th nationally
1990s: 30th nationally
2000s: 25th nationally
2010s: 48th nationally
2020s: 52nd nationally (so far)

SEC programs averaged over $203 million in revenue in 2024…. Georgia Tech brought in just $142 million.

Bet they wish they had that SEC TV money.

There is a reason why 2 of the 3 programs you mentioned are suing the ACC to try to get out. Anyone who thinks Auburn would be better off in the ACC is a certified idiot.
I doubt there is any truth to these rumors. Also, it would be program suicide for whoever did go through with it… see how leaving the SEC has worked out for Georgia Tech and Tulane.
The group that puts these rankings together has some sort of vendetta against Auburn, and they will never explain their reasoning.

Every other SEC athletic program has a revenue to value multiple of 4.44 to 5.07. With zero explanation they lowered Auburn’s multiple to just 4.18

Revenue multiple applied to each SEC school:

5.07- Ole Miss
4.96- Texas A&M
4.92- Miss State
4.88- Florida
4.83- Oklahoma
4.79- Georgia
4.79- Tennessee
4.77- LSU
4.68- Arkansas
4.65- Vanderbilt
4.64- Alabama
4.60- Missouri
4.50- Kentucky
4.46- Texas
4.44- South Carolina
4.18- Auburn

The gap between #15 S Carolina and #16 Auburn is almost three times as large as any gap between any of the other schools compared to the ones right above or right below.

There is no reason for them to set Auburn’s multiple so low.

Auburn has very quietly become one of the league’s most consistent programs.

SEC BB teams ranked by NET+WAB Avg

Posted by AUTiger789 on 1/12/26 at 9:44 am
At this point in the season, taking an average of the NET and the Wins Above Bubble ranking for each team produces a fairly quick ranking system that comes close to where each team would fall on an NCAA seed list.

Here’s how the SEC teams look:

Rank. Team- Avg. (NET / WAB)

7. Vanderbilt- 6.00 (7/5)
14. Alabama- 15.50 (17/14)
20. Florida- 21.00 (15/27)
25. Arkansas- 25.00 (32/18)
26. Georgia- 26.50 (25/28)
31. Tennessee- 31.50 (27/36)
36. Auburn- 35.00 (36/34)
39. Texas A&M- 40.50 (43/38)
44. Kentucky- 43.00 (35/51)
48. LSU- 48.50 (44/53)

This would suggest…

2- seed for Vandy
4-seed for Bama
5-seed for Florida
7-seeds for Arky and Georgia
8-seed for Tennessee
9-seed for Auburn
10-seed for Texas A&M
11-seed for Kentucky (possibly in the play-in)

LSU would likely be in the first 4 out. Looks about right to me.

Texas (56.00), Missouri (59.00), and Oklahoma (62.50) appear to be solidly outside the field but within striking distance.

At this point, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State appear to be close to elimination.

Auburn has owned the Hogs lately. Won 4 of the last 5 meetings with Auburn having a +14.2 margin per contest. Absolute domination.
