re: Why Lane Kiffin fails at LSU
Posted by DeltaDoc on 1/12/26 at 4:52 pm to Marcusaureliussayshi
He created the program, process and recruited the players to put a historically bottom tier SEC team in a position where they were relevant the previous two years.
This season, he led Ole Miss to an 11-1 record, which ended up being the best season they’ve ever had. He hired the coaches, established the processes…it’s all Lane.
Lane created such a good program that they are not trying to change anything, including hiring one of his former position coaches as OC to run the same offense.
Ole Miss fans act as though they were about to fire him.
If Lane decided he made a mistake and wanted back in Oxford in 3 years, OM will bend over backwards to make it happen after Pete flames out.
Ole Miss knows he’s about to have tremendous success. He already is having it.
Lane and LSU are about to do to Ole Miss what Saban and Bama did to LSU.

Kiffin made Coker look competent at Bama. LSU win be fine at QB. The offensive line is the massive question. LSU may have a disappointing year if they cannot find some lineman.

People forget Emile was a 4 star offered by Ole Miss, Oregon and others at one point. His family bleeds purple & gold.

We talking about the same Pete that couldn’t stop Georgia earlier this year, or the Pete that couldn’t stop Kentucky or Florida last year with the best talent Ole Miss has ever had on defense…or are the Pete loathed by Bama fans?

I don’t think that argument is as strong as you thought it was in your mind.

Baker is better than Pete, so probably not. But, you are avoiding the question.
I recall Kiffin beating Georgia last year.
The question is whether Pete will be Muschamp or Kirby.
The question is whether Pete will be Muschamp or Kirby.
And he was in the playoffs because of your beloved Kiffin. Starting on third does not make for a triple.

What’s the more likely outcome for Pete without the Kiffin offensive staff or any QB that played under that staff?
I personally think he fired after two full seasons, but think he could, due to NIL buy-in and Lane Kiffin infrastructure, win 7-8 games per year.
It’ll be hard for Ole Miss to fire him if he does that…

Based on opposition win/loss, Ole Miss has had the easiest schedule in program history over the last 4 years in the modern era.
With 9 SEC games and a Power 5 from now on, Ole Miss will regress to their mean (which is around 7 wins).
Great season, and I agree, Ole Miss due to the Grove Collective, Lane’s leadership and offensive genius, the evaluation process in place, etc., has adapted as good as anyone to the new era.
The jury is still out as others catch up.
Miami, despite the score, was a much better roster than Ole Miss. The SEC is not what it was, clearly. The benchmarks therefore lie outside the conference.
How do SEC match up to Miami, OSU, Oregon, Indiana, etc in total roster make-up?

Sounds like Williams is staying at UW

Well, that’s unfortunate
It’s true that OM played its first truly meaningful game in 60 years this weekend.
The last two years, OM has enjoyed perhaps the easiest schedule of any SEC team in conference and has defeated no one of significance out of conference.
Even with that easy schedule, OM lost 4 SEC games in the last 2 years.
OM has not ever been to Atlanta in the SEC championship game.
OM has not won the SEC since integration.
OM has had success the last few years when other traditionally better programs, like LSU and Florida, have been down. Even then, bad Florida and LSU teams still defeated them last year.
By any metric, Ole Miss is a mid-tier SEC program, worse than Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, and probably even Auburn.
They found their best ever coach at the same time they had a very easy SEC schedule.
Everything returns to the mean. In the last 25 years, LSU has been a 9 win team with 3 national titles and another title game appearance.
LSU recruits about 10 spots higher than Ole Miss.
In the last 15 years, LSU has more NFL starts than MSU and Ole Miss combined.
Ole Miss is going to regress to their mean, just as LSU is about to return to theirs.
Ole Miss is a 6-7 win team. LSU is a 9, maybe 10 win team with a 12 game schedule.
It is what it is (and deep down Ole Miss knows it). The return to the mean starts in NOLA next week. Ole Miss is desperately trying to keep what Lane built, to include hiring an offensive staffer that coached under him.
Pete cannot start over because he’s not that guy. Truth told, he’s not that great of a DC. Ole Miss knows he’s a stop gap but they are projecting him to be Kirby.
They will attempt to hire Charlie Weiss Jr in two years to bring the magic back, but alas it’s gone.

More regime change war.
Prediction based on the Bush and Obama regime change wars:
- US servicemen will die
- Many civilians will die
- Regime will be changed
- destabilization will occur
- refugees will flee and end up in US and Europe
- neighboring nations will destabilize
- drug production and trafficking will go UP in the area
- MIC will make bank
- they will try to tie in Islamic terrorism into this somehow.

The OM faithful in Mississippi seems to think Weis is staying with the rebels

The OM faithful in Mississippi seems to think Weiss has only signed an offer sheet and that he will stay at Ole Miss after the playoffs.
Is it confirmed he’s under contract with LSU?

When we arrived in Afghanistan, opioid trade was essentially non-existent. It peaked in Afghanistan history while we were in country. As soon as we were gone, non-existent again.

He did. His CDC, including Fauci and Burke, scared the hell out of everyone. States felt compelled to follow their orders. I suppose you’ve forgotten operational warp speed that brought us the jabs.
