He was hired by the Chicago Fed in late 2022. Before that he worked for the Obama admin (both terms I think) so that's probably where this clip is coming from. I saw him in an interview a day or two ago on CNBC Squawk Box. Joe Kernan (CNBC employee) asked him a political question. Goolsbee said he couldn't answer because it would be political and Kernan opined that he missed the days when Austan could be political like in the past.
Remember to take these bots/Russian propaganda with a grain of salt around here. Do your research if you are ignorant on a subject. I was only able catch the bot this time because I saw Goolsbee refuse to discuss politics in that interview this week.

If you look at the Patriots draft history he always seemed to add a pick or two EVERY year. This allowed the franchise to carry on their success. In wasn't just Brady. He is the best coach I have ever seen manage the draft. What he did in the late rounds of the draft year after year was masterful. It seemed like every single year the Patriots had like 10-12 draft picks.

Y'all are NM illiterate like most of the country. I've lived in ABQ for decades so I'll clear some crap up... ABQ and Santa Fe is half the state. Whites are slightly less than Hispanics in population with a sizable native population. Maybe a 40-45 whites/40-45 Hispanics/10-15 Natives /5 percent black/other. NM was conquered by Spain before the pilgrims arrived in the 1500s... I have Hispanic friends who's families go back 14 generations in NM and Indian friends that go back thousands of years. Racist whites get chewed up and spit out in ABQ. There is not an illegal problem here, despite what is assumed. Probably because our Hispanics are vastly different than other Latino communities and they would find it hard to get along. Latino cultures are more diverse than Anglo cultures, despite the common language. NM is the only state with two official languages, English y Español. Even ABQ whites take pride in that. NM is a fairly immature state in most things except racial and cultural inclusion. NM is actually very mature in cultural awareness and cohesion. Each of the three main ethnicities keep the other in check. I would guess 4 out of 5 whites here have Hispanic blood and vice versa.
NM was the only western state that anglos were never able to steal away the land from the Hispanics like in AZ, CO, CA, NV, TX, etc. All government documents/courts are in Spanish and Hispanics outnumbered whites so they often kept their lands by simply being aware of what the Europeans were doing. NM has it's own food, culture, and people. Also, cartels actually ignore ABQ (for the most part). There is multi generational cartel control here that wants nothing to do with the big cartels moving into other parts. NM is off limits to them due to this old control. You either go west to Tucson, east to Dallas, or north to Denver. ABQ is left free.
Trump's visit... there's about ten times the chance of Hispanics getting in mass open brawls with rednecks from Clovis, Portales, Cruces, Farmington, etc. during trump's visit than NM flipping red. Trump is come here to excite the race divide, not to win the state. He's trying to start a race war. That's evident to anyone not white or voting for him.
Y'all really have no clue what y'all are talking about when it comes to NM... Just like no other state understands the rich cultural history and differences of Louisiana. Now imagine the LA state constitution and current courts were also in French... imagine how many of our ancestors wouldn't have lost their land from English speaking anglos. Imagine how entrenched Cajun culture would be still to this day.
NM is the oldest region of America. The day the pilgrims landed, there were traders renting hotel rooms in Santa Fe along the biggest trade route in the western hemisphere... Mexico city (Tenochtitlan) to California. Y'all really don't understand this place. Trump can't win... he's coming here to start shite... that's how he rolls.

re: When was the last time a state switched colors
Posted by Jim Brockmire on 10/19/24 at 12:45 pm to lsu4life77
New Mexico followed a few years after Colorado... The reasons for both states turning blue were Republicans ignoring climate change and pushing deregulation that would hurt the environment. Protecting the fragile ecosystem is much more heralded in western states. It has a lot to do with why Arizona is purple. Combine that with the Democrats supporting Obamacare and that sealed the change for both NM and CO. Plus, CO and NM are very ethnically diverse so going blue made sense.

This right here... Personally, Perk reminds me of the college version of Brian Urlacher from the Bears... In college he was really light (I think like 210 lbs) and the coach of the UNM Lobos made a position for him called "lobobacker." It was a hybrid safety/linebacker position. This was all under HC Rocky Long at the time. He used to play out of a nickle defense and the fifth DB was the Lobobacker position.
Watching LSU it seems like the Star position in the LSU defense is similar to this Lobobacker position the Lobos used to use. I definitely remember Brian Urlacher being really light while in college but he still tore it up. He became a top ten or so pick and he gained a ton of weight while in the league and moved to a more traditional Middle Linebacker.

I’m don’t teach“color blindness.” We just don’t talk about skin color when we talk about people. I don’t think it’s important so why would I make a big deal about someone’s skin color to my kids? My son is starting to understand that people are frequently identified by skin color. He recently asked me why people with brown skin are called black if their skin is actually brown and why white people are called white when their skin is actually peach.
I remember my little sister and brother asking my mom the same questions when they were growing up and I vaguely remember thinking these concepts in early elementary school. I do remember my mom telling me she used to insist on our black neighbor holding me as an infant so I would be comfortable with black people in life. I always thought was really weird until recently as a middle aged man. I'm extremely comfortable around black folk to this day. When I moved to New Mexico in my teens I had never really seen Hispanic people... They seemed completely normal but still different to me (aside from New Mexican vs Louisianan culture) but I never was completely comfortable around them like black people. I've now lived in New Mexico almost my entire adult life and I'm still not nearly as comfortable around Hispanics as black people. Culturally I fit in great here. I love the spicy Mexican food, Catholic culture, family culture, living for today attitude, etc. but still, I'm more comfortable around black people (especially southern) then Hispanic people. Even though I've logged more hours of socializing with Hispanic people than Black people in life. I'll probably always be that way...
How you raise your kids in their formative years will forever affect their subconscious. Letting the questions of skin color/race come organically from the youngster seems to have worked great for our family. It's great you recognize that. Your kids will grow up the wiser for it.
re: Anybody else get chills when Kelly slammed his fist in the press conference?
Posted by Jim Brockmire on 9/4/24 at 11:26 am to caliegeaux
100% dead on. Kelly's a responsible, long term coach who's embracing NIL when LSU needed it most. Everyone knows that he's going to get the program moving in the right direction for long term success, even if he's not necessarily the best game day coach. Coach O left LSU in dire straits and that's what was needed. Kelly needs to accept the reality that electing to receive in the first quarter, or especially going for it on 4th and goal and failing, dramatically alters your likelihood to win the game. These little decisions have huge impacts on the likelihood of winning. They set you up on a path to fail. He needs to get that through his thick head yesterday.
Worst case scenario, Kelly can't win it all and LSU fires him in 2 to 4 years while averaging 9 wins a year and the program on a solid foundation. At that point, any good hire will be inheriting a well run program.

quote:
Your child has never noticed that someone of a different race looks differently than them? Has your child noticed that women look differently than men? Sure, they may not know the terms "black" and "white", or "man" and "woman" until they are taught those terms, but anyone can perceive differences. My daughter is 3 years old, we had a plumber here the other day to work on our water heater, he was a black man (very dark skin with an African accent), and she asked me "daddy, why does that man have a black face?". It doesn't take a genius to notice that some people look different than others.
Three year olds have a limited lexicon so describing the man as having a black face is how he described the plumber. This is the same, simple construct society uses too. This makes sense and is commonplace but... the reality is, it's an ignorant, archaic method to describe an individual because it removes proper secular judgement of that individual person, as the unique individual they truly are. Rather, it lumps them into a socially constructed group of individuals, typically not even created by the members of the group being analyzed themselves... White people didn't see themselves as white until other ethnic peoples started saying they were different. Same thing with black people. They didn't call themselves fellow black folk until other peoples of the world pointed out they're different from them. We can only know the world from our own perspective. Notice how you described the plumber as being very dark (black) and African. This is an example of what is meant by a socially created construct. In your mind, and rightfully so (it's your mind after all), the plumber belongs in the socially created grouping of immigrants from Africa. It's perfectly normal and not racist whatsoever for you to think the plumber is from Africa. You hear his voice, see his skin, and your decision is made based on personal past experiences. These assumptions are totally normal for the society you, personally/individually, find yourself in right now, in these circumstances but is still somewhat inaccurate and definitely incomplete. In reality, the plumber might not have ever even been to Africa, the accent came from his family; maybe he just arrived a year ago. If I ask you what your views on his citizenship status what would be your answer? It could only possible be derived from your personal experiences, thus assuredly incomplete, therefore inaccurate. However, your neighbor might have a completely different inference about the plumber's citizenship status. Recognition of individuality and open mindedness is exactly what parents are trying to teach. Parents want their kids to be able to assess each person on their own individual merit and value. A traditionally beautiful conservative value that our society needed in the past as we are all immigrants. Further it's a just value... Individuality.
CRT teaches your individual and specific perspective at this moment in time is just that... Yours alone, and therefore different from any one else at any time in history. The subject is extremely nuanced and still developing overall. It's not binary like arithmetic, or proper English so it's unsettling. Professors of soft sciences like of theology, philosophy, etc. never stop learning themselves because humans don't know everything in these fields. These reasons and many more are why these advanced concepts are only taught in college. Most majors don't ever get into at all. CRT isn't the boogeyman everyone is making it out to be. This is all making a mountain out of a mole hill. I urge parents to give an honest look into the topic for the sake of your children's education. Learning about issues is never a bad thing.

I'm convinced the main reason we lost was because we chose to receive the ball in the 1st AND then doubled down and went for it on 4th and goal. I'm no statistician but I'm willing to bet when two top 25 teams play the teams that receive the ball first and fail on 4th and goal have a good 10% to 20% higher chance of losing. Doing that to kick off the game affects so many dynamics... motivation, psyche, etc. This is what's so discouraging to me. LSU lost because the head coach continues (same thing last year vs FSU) to make stupid game day decisions. You can't fix that. Kelly is Les 2.0
