re: Question for bassists (actually, ALL musicians)
Posted by Red Boarman on 3/3/26 at 12:35 pm to Uatu
Interesting question because I was so young that I thought of myself as a player long before I was. Give yourself a goal. Pick a favorite song, one with a bit of difficulty, learn it start to finish, keep playing along with it until you nail it every time, and call yourself a player. Then, pick another song.

Or a bit shorter and not so athletic but plays like he loves the game and is focused purely on that.

One of the few to have #1 hits over 10 years apart. He encouraged Carol King, gave ABBA Ring Ring, and made Captain and Tennille a thing.
re: Popular bands or artists that you cannot take seriously

I can dislike the music but take a band seriously. So, I see this as a different question. Bands that overuse a gimmick are ones I struggle to take seriously. Like Kiss and 80s hair and makeup bands. Though, I like Detroit Rock City.
There are genres I dismiss, such as rap and bro country, where the talent just isn't there.

Richmond kept attacking the basket, but did not shoot a free throw. That's my only gripe with officiating. We lost because Brazile and Wagner were 1-8 from 3, and holy crap Ewing, just tap it in.
I've been calling to work in Elmir all year. Let the big guy take up space in the paint and deal some bruises for a spell. Maybe now.

Not much of a toe tapper. I counted 15/8.

I'm Henery the 8th I am. Henery the 8th I am I am.
Wouldn't take a Willy or a Sam.
2nd verse, same as the 1st.

There's some kind of trash everywhere you go. If you don't see it, it's you.

I can often muster sympathy for a downtrodden fan base who thought it was their night, only to be denied. But after being around them at the BOK games, I'm still happy those trashy fricks who don't know how to act had to eat it.

I don't really care for this place.
Bentonville has more of a midwest vibe than what I like. Downtown Springdale, (Yes, Springdale!) with the Odd Soul, Gaskins, Home Grown, and Casa Alejo has more of an Arkansas feel than the rest of NWA. Plus, you can ride the train. But I'm from LA.

Saturday night's game will be interesting with the weather. They should tell students on campus, if you can walk here, we'll let you in. Have a 3 pt. contest for boot lady's seat.

Eugene was the original. When I was a student, the last sub was Jimmy Dykes. No one got excited.

Darnell and the freshmen made the sweet 16. Engscov and Merritt entering the game always got the students going.

Acuff's 13 assists ranks 2nd behind Dontell Jefferson and Kareem Reid, both with 15. With zero turnovers, it's likely an AST/TO record.

They looked flat footed, setting their feet only to get blown by time and again. Just bad technique and no help. If my mom had let men drive by like that, I wouldn't have had capri sun and lunchables.

The song is also about kinship among sad, lonely people drinking away their problems, which is not such a sad thing. Then, a talented, inspired musician also makes them feel alright. "It's sad and it's sweet, and I knew it complete..." is bound to induce nostalgia. The Gen Z reaction isn't that far from my FM radio reaction.

Watch the way he walks during a dead ball, like he's so tired he can only shuffle along, swaying side to side. I can't think of a basketball analogy, but it's similar to Earl Campbell. He'd break off a 20 yd run, get up very slowly, limp back to the huddle, then run over and by people to the house.
